***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Thanks!

I've taken the liberty of quoting it:

Seems promising! :)

I think it's safe to say that the feature of ICS that I'm the most excited for is officially Hardware Acceleration. Hands down. This is going to revolutionize Android and take it to an entirely new level. Wait and see.

At least we know the Razr info:

qHD super amoled

1gb ram

4460 chipset

Custom LTE to fit the thin size (how much $ did they throw at that?)

Tough build

Cloud friendly Motocast

16gb, but micro sd and sim ports on side of device

Locked bootloader (bleh, but have seen no need for custom kernel or rom on the D3)

Webtop (bleh X2)

Now just need the Nexus real info to compare :) I wonder if Sammy have gone custom for LTE, or same chip as previous device?

So is that different LTE than Bionic? Also where is the source confirming OMAP 4460 in razr? Today's announcement mentions only 1.2Ghz dual core. Most leaks before said it's 4430.

I don't like the aesthetics of the three dots on the side. One should be 1.5mm further apart than the other two.

Looking for the golden ratio?

After seeing the images of this phone, I'm a bit disappointed, but it has also allowed me to realize something -- this phone isn't for the masses, it's not even for the geeks, it's for the devs, who contrary to popular belief don't need the absolute best hardware out there.

There's some truth to that, but there aren't nearly enough devs (compared to the general population) to make that worthwhile.

You are right that they don't care about the specs in that they really don't know the difference. However, when they see one phone has a dual core 1.5GHz processor with an 8MP camera, they will undoubtedly assume it's better than 1.2GHz and 5MP camera. They don't have to be iSheep to be sheep.

Nah, millions of people will buy an 800MHz iPhone 4S when 1.2GHz Android phones already exist. Maybe they think 800 is better than one point two?

What happens when I actually use it for a while and have more software on it then it actually came with???? What will happen to the benchmarks then, will it start locking up all the time, etc.

Nothing will happen to the benchmarks unless you install apps that do a lot of background processing. So if a maximally speedy phone is important to you, don't do that!

Why is a locked bootloader so off-putting? DX has a locked and encrypted bootloader and I believe there are roms for it. It's rooted. What's the big deal?

I know the 4460 chipset has been said before, but is there a source you guys are getting your info from? I've always thought it was an overclocked 4430. I'm often wrong, and this probably isn't an exception, but can you provide a link?

The 4430 gets hot enough at 1ghz. It would seem goofy for Moto to do this, along with LTE and bold statements about battery life.

Easy choice for me now, unless the Nexus has a micro sd slot and its global too.

Yeah but it's not like the name is laser-engraved into the phone. Call it what you want. Mine will be named Sue, the only living Galnexusaurus.

Better tell Sue that Sammy the Galnexusaurus will also be roaming the world. She is not the only one!

Just bought my Dad an Nexus S. Soon as I booted it, I was informed of a new update; 2.3.7.
The phone is so quick; no lag stuttering etc.

Like I've said before, Nexus or bust! :D

Maybe that's the "game changer".

And, in all honesty, I AM disappointed with a OMAP4460 running at 1.2GHz. This is underclocked, so hopefully it gives room for overclocking, but if TI sold them to Samsung as 1.2GHz processors, that's probably all they'll guarantee.
In addition, I'm not sure how the system-on-a-chip things work, but will this also affect the clock speed of the GPU?

You'll probably be able to hit 1.5GHz, but TI won't guarantee anything beyond X GHz for a device advertised as X GHz.

We had a knowledgeable poster earlier who seemed pretty sure that CPU and GPU are not independently clocked on the 44x0. If true, then they'd all overclock together. That would imply the upper limit is determined by whichever component (CPU or GPU) hits its limit first.

WOW! The Droid Razr.. A big FU to all Bionic owners! I would be mad if I just got a Bionic.

Bionic owners are puking right about now LOL

Time doesn't stop just because a product is released late. Bionic owners may be disappointed right now, but nobody forced them to buy Bionic at the time, and they would've been naive to think there weren't lots of better and faster phones just around the corner.

Okay, I don't know much about the technical details, but because of the way it's laid out, PenTile on a qHD screen has a "screen door" effect that makes a lot of people want to vomit or gives headaches. But the upside is that it has a lot more white pixels, so it's super bright and easy to read if you're outside in direct sunlight.

On the GNP, we're not sure if it will be PenTile or not, but we think that if it is, maybe since it's AMOLED (the type of screen, although I don't know what it means) and also a much higher resolution, that it will eliminate the screen door effect.

All phones have a screen door effect, it's just more noticeable w/PenTile at a given resolution. Bionic is superbright because it has RGBW PenTile w/white pixels. Nexus will most likely come w/RGBG PenTile w/extra green pixels, brightness unknown.

It's more than an overclocked 4430. Here are the OMAP4430 and OMAP4460 tech ref manuals. Enjoy!

The reason the previous lte devices were thick was due to the lte chip (as tech blogs and oems mentioned). No way the Razr has the same chip as the Bionic. Especially with the battery life assertions and the thin form factor that fits lte, SoC, superamoled AND side ports for microsd and sim card.

As far as the 4460, that is what the media is saying, so not an assumption from me. Just Google it :)

Addedj

Pretty sure the 4460 clocked at 1.5 is intended for tablets, since more space for heat dissipation and bigger battery.

If this phone's speed comes from ICS then there is little point in getting it RIGHT NOW unless you just want to be first. Any phone with similar specs which gets upgraded to ICS will share such benefits. So while they may not be as fast TODAY, once they get updated the GNex advantage is over. OK, vanilla and no bloat are very nice too.

I really have the feeling that we know very little about this phone now. That's why there are so many conflicting "confirmed" specs of this phone.

This ^

If these supposed confirmed specs are the actual device specs then why would the Google employees be laughing about the announcement of the Ip4s, as read in a much earlier post I believe in this thread.

I'm still holding out the slightest bit of hope that somehow this thing really is the powerhouse that we were told to expect. On the flip side as also stated earlier, the Nexi are not typically the most spec'd out phones available. I am really impatient right now, I WANT TO KNOW!!!!!

The truth is out there.....

They won't overclock the 4430 which leaves the 4460 dialed down a bit (which stands to reason/battery life)

edit: should not say they won't. It's possible but not likely. Thats my_opinion_on the matter
