Root Please help (unroot)

Newbie
Hey Guys i have an evo i just bought. i love it for the little bit Ive had it but the thing is that it's been rooted and its got some glitches (the front camera is stuck on an effect and flash doesn't work).

I've tried deleting apps and restoring to factory settings but nothing has changed. when i got it it was already rooted with the "synergy mod." i talked to sprint and they said they'd fix it if it wasn't rooted. so i want to unroot it and see if that fixes it. so what I'm asking is how do i unroot it?

any help is greatly appreciated :)

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!
before we unroot you,
i would try and wipe dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps first. if that does not work we can try and flash a different rom.
1.but first go into recovery. power off and press and hold power+vol down
2.depending on recoveries select in clockwork mod: wipe dalvik cache (found in advanced) and cache partitions. in amon ra select wipe dalvik cache and cache.
3.reboot

lets see if that helps.

It says Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 at the bottom
1.ok so download this rom Download 651 Rooted Odexed Signed zip.
2.and move it to your card. do not put it in a folder, just on the card.
3.go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache, cache partitions, and wipe data/factory reset
4.next select install zip from sdcard
5.find the file and select it.
6.after it is done then reboot.

this is just a rooted custom rom.

ahh good its back to the stock ! :)

however, the camera is still having the issue. will sprint recognize it as rooted or is this the original rom?

huh, interesting. i guess it might be a hardware issue. i was hoping that it was the rom.

ok so we need to know what hboot you have. so you need to uncheck fastboot if it is not already. go to settings/apps/uncheck fastboot. next power off then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the hboot screen.

if your hboot is 2.10 or less then you need to use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

if your hboor is higher then 2.10 then you need this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

both guides have an unrooting section.

okay so how do i find out the version? I see on the hboot screen is "hboot-6.16.1002"
and "radio-2.15.00" is that the version ?

btw i took it to sprint today, seeing as though it looks unrooted, and he said that there was some hardware missing that got lost in the rooting or something along the lines of that, and therefore he wouldn't work on it.

Sprint won't touch it if its rooted. As far as they are concerned, you've voided your warranty and they don't have to deal with it.

ok so use the unrooting method in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and take it to a different sprint store.

okay great, now I'm trying to follow this guide but when i move the img file onto the sd card the hboot doesn't recognize it and says

checking SD.... "no image or wrong image!" undeerr the file name. i renamed it as explained in the instructions. any ideas as to why it won't recognize it?

i see that is says "3.transfer the zip file to the root of the sd card.
4.power off (make sure that fastboot is turned off"

what does it mean by the "root of the sd card"? and how do i turn off fastboot

Ok. root of the sd card means in no folders. When the folder on the computer opens to you sd card just put it there. In no folders. Fastboot can be turned off by going to settings and the n power and then at the bottom there is a fastboot option. uncheck it.

okay thanks for the clarification. now i went to settings and the fastboot is off and i put it the renamed file into the root of the SD card but the same problem is occuring >:l

this is exactly what comes up when the sd card is checking...

loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!

loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!

Ok. i hate that unroot method. Ill get you an unroot method that works 100%. Get the app mybackup. Just get the free version. Back everything up you want. then go to htcevohacks.com and look for the tab at the top how to unroot the htc evo. Follow all of the steps in that video. When that is all done, go to settings and system updates and do the htc software update. Then you have an unrooted latest updated evo that sprint will work on. Let me know if this works for you.

This is the file u want and it needs to be renamed PC36IMG.ZIP
If u have extensions hidden on your pc it wont show the .ZIP dont add it
Here is the file :PC36IMG6.17.zip
I highly recomend u follow OCN's guide for unrooting. I have done it and it works.

Another method is running the RUU.exe (in ocns dummies guide) from your computer after you get S-ON.

Download this:
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...6IMG6.17.zip&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13154076546592

rename to PC36IMG.zip
Place on the root of your SD drive (to ensure this, on your computer click on my computer and simply drag the file onto the phone)

Reboot into bootloader and update.

Then you have S-on.

Next download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243169

Open the .exe, Hook your phone up to the computer and it does its thing

hey guys thanks for all the input. I've tried it all and somehow i still end up with the no image or wrong image signs popping out! >:l i dont know what else to do

Are you still getting the PC36DIAG file error Because it should be PC36IMG.ZIP. That PC36DIAG sounds to me like a diagnostic file for something.

also what about the ruu that rxpert mentioned? have you tried that? it is run on your computer. you need usb debugging turned on. run the exec file on your computer and connect your phone when it tells you to.

No I haven't tried that one yet because I see he first writes to turn S-on and since that's where I got stuck at I didn't go any further. Can I still go ahead and do it anyways?

ok lets try this file. this is the s-on PC36IMG file. just download it and put it on your card and not in any folder. then go into hboot and hopefully it should do its thing.

PC36IMG.zip
