Help camera focus really annoying

I press the screen to enable the auto focus and the screen then proceeds to cycle through what I guess is varying focus ranges. The annoying thing is it shows a very crisp, what I would consider perfectly focussed image but then it cycles out of this and the original non-focussed image is what is set. How do I stop the auto-focussing at the crisper image?!

How close are you to the subject-of-focus? From your description it sounds as if you're within the minimum focusing distance, meaning the AF can't focus. Is the scene poorly-lit or low-contrast? The AF will have trouble with either scenario.

i believe the S2 have the macro feature? you can set it for close up shots :)

Very close, several cms. What I don't understand is how the crisper image appears yet I cannot keep it at that and instead I get the less focussed image.

i think we got the same situation when i tried to take a pic of my gelato.. (yum) try a firm grip, there's a possibility of hand shake momentum when taking the shots OR try shooting at least 3-4 inches away from the subject then use the zoom feature.. check the difference. . . HTH

yeah, i mean its just a phone camera after all, ur not gonna get macro shots, even in macro mode.. if its not focusing, its probably too close.. even while focusing, u see the image clear, its probably not fully focused, and the camera tries again, and finds it cant focus..icedtea mentions a good idea, u could try that, zooming in instead of moving in, although ur picture res would obviously be lower :)

that's one thing i miss about my iPhone, the camera...the shutter lag is terrible on the 2 android phones i have compared with the iPhone...

that's one concern of my officemate who is thinking what to buy (iphone4/4s or S2) but sometimes.. (in camera use) its just in the person who's holding it.. regardless of what phone cam is used :P

What it does is tries to focus but stops just after it's gone past the perfect position, hate that, happened with my last phone too.
