***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Love our Droids :)

What is this sacrifice you speak of?

My point was that if it was there I couldn't notice it. Seems I have seem memory availability comparisons, but those are tough as the real memory use would need to be compared to same blur version of android and none of those probably exist without webtop.

I'll let EarlyMon's link post as I am not really sure exactly how it works, but it seems the most seemingly knowledgeable peeps I have read explanations from seem to suggest it's not something of much concern even if you won't ever fire it up. Guess it will take up storage space regardless of whether it sets performance back in pure android mode at all or not at the VERY least.

Looks like the camera is more flush with the back cover on his pic. Additional thickness due to LTE?

I heard from our source. He/She was very concerned about our concerns. I'm going to put it all together and post it. Hang on.

Mostly wonderin' if mine have merit. VZW is a WEIRDLY run marketing operation to say the least, so I could EASILY be reading their absence in all this WRONG.

please do I'm VERY interested in this. I will read entire article but with a simple yes or no. Is there a performance hit with WebTop enabled handsets?

Gracias

While waiting for Early's definitive response, I'm going to speculate that while it will take some internal NAND space for the virtual machine (it's a whole 'nother Linux installation), WebTop won't take up either RAM or CPU cycles if it hasn't been fired up.

Ya know, I just thought of a grassroots kind of way to let Verizon know they should release this if they are on the fence about it. We should all post messages on Verizon's Twitter, Facebook, and whatever else they have telling them how big of a mistake it would be to not release this phone. Maybe even mention that you'll have to seriously consider committing to them for another 2 years with them deciding what phones you can choose from. There's probably a couple thousand of us on here think of what that would look like to have that rush of people all posting on the same subject. It would have to get their attention.

This is my take. That it's one of those nonissues that get blown to something more than they really are. The storage space is something, but not really much unless you are the sort that thinks 16gb-32gb is wildly insufficient storage from the getgo.

I don't use it, take what I say with that in mind.

I don't know.

It's not necessarily true that it has to be a big performance hit at all.

I run a full Ubuntu Linux on my phone, with the full desktop sometimes projected to my laptop courtesy of VNC. Simultaneously and parallel to that, I can make calls on my phone and run other Android apps.

The secret sauce is that it's easy to create another virtual machine in ram, and run a full Linux in that *controlled essentially as another Android app by the system. *

I'm pulling this stunt running stuff like the full Open Office and GIMP.

Like I said, I don't know firsthand, but based on that, I would think something as simple as WebTop would be a cake walk with good hardware.

Sorry I didn't have the easy answer. Sorrier it seems I rarely do. (sigh) Details here if you're still interested. The diagram shows the desktop projected to my phone courtesy of AndroidVNC, but can go as easily to a desktop via wifi/VNC.

I swear he sounds just like Jackson from the original Evo thread. All his pep talks and Messiah attitude.

That hurt. I apologize if I come off as arrogant. I really care about you guys and I love phones. Regarding the Messiah attitude, do you think that perhaps the reason I care so deeply about people is that I'm an ordained minister? I was people's pastor for many years. It was drilled into me to care.

However, if I do come off negatively, I do apologize. :(

Whaaa? Was he talking about you? I thought he was talking about P3Droid??

But maybe I'm wrong. . .

What?

Am I missing something???

Did I misread that, or is Steven right, you're comparing him to Jackson?

I lurked here for months before signing up and missed ZERO of the pre-release Evo posts.

There is no way that Steven is like Jackson.

If that's the intended point, he deserves an apology rather than be apologizing.

Dead serious.

Keep on preaching Steven. I think the majority of us look forward to what you have to say. Me personally I don't think of you as the Messiah. I kind of think of you as our cheerleader. :D:p

That could just be me though. :p

Wait, I still don't get data throttling. That just means everyone will have regular data for half the month, and average or slow data the last half of the month. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Everyone is on network data, now. Throttling is to prevent abuse, so that we all may partake of the network and not have one wifi tethering illegal user stealing all the data making everyone else's data slow. If you use it, you have to pay for it and you won't be throttled. Makes sense.

Agree 100% if this is true, but I don't think he was talking about Steven. kcs has been a really good poster so far, and very appreciative in general. Look at this thanks to thanked ratio. He is one thankful dude! :p

I think it was directed at the Windsock.
