Root First Bionic ROM: UNL3ASH3D-V1.0

Someone at XDA said that we needed to use RM to load this rom and future releases. Of course I didn't know that so I just used Bootstrap as normal to load 1.8. Are there any advantages to which recovery I'm using?
 
Personally, I prefer booting into CMRecovery manually:
1. I'm used to doing it that way,
2. I like the flexibility and
3. I like the ease of installing multiple .zip files.

I only use ROM manager when I want to name my backup, because when I've renamed nandroid backups my MD5s would get corrupted.

I just loaded the [D3]Blurr3d 1.0 beta 4 build 6 this morning. I also loaded the white 3xp3ri3nce mod. Do I have to do the powerboost manually, and if so, do you think it is worthwhile?

When I try to do a rom backup from rom manager, the bionic reboots, but I get an error about an incorrect tag on the sdcard (or some such thing) and it fails, leaving me to do it manually. This is a recent change to the way it worked correctly.

BTW Jeffrey, regarding MD5 issues when changing a rom name: don't use spaces in the name. Try a dash or underscore instead and you should be alright, in my experience.(3xp3ri3nc3?)
 
Well, I bit the bullet and flashed anyway. So far doesn't seem too different from 1.7. I even installed the Powerboost script + mods this time (except for the CPU governor part, wasn't interested in that) and I still don't see much of a difference.

That being said I was super happy with 1.7, so I'm super happy with 1.8 now too :)

I'm running beta 2 build 4. Where did you get the updated version? I don't see it on the release page.

EDIT: Never mind. Found it in BionicBox
 
[R3]Blurr3d 2.0 will be including an .893 OTA Update. Should be coming out soon. Might give it a shot but i'm not fond of Blur.

Some scary talk of perma-bricking going on at rootzwiki. Hopefully he gets all the kinks out. He's done amazing work so far.
 
doesn't look like it. 2.0 is on hold. DT has one unrecoverable and one unrootable bionic right now. There will be an update tonight to 1.8, he sent it to dhacker to test already.

DT- sorry to hear about your bionic troubles. In appreciation for your work thus far, and in anticipation of your future efforts on our behalf, I am pledging to donate again in hopes that others will follow suit and enable you to acquire another bionic.
 
I took the plunge, no problems here, connectivity still is a bit of an issue, 3g and 4g stay on still with wifi, data sometimes transitions slowly, but I have not had to do airplane mode or reboot to get data back. But overall its a definite improvement. Follow the steps and its a easy process. Revert to stock with root, then forever root, reboot, install cheesecake, download the update then install the rom.

Battery life is hard to tell right now because of all the flashing and factory resets I've done today. Update on the data though, there was a point when I dropped 3g out of nowhere, I wasn't transitioning from 3 to 4g. Waited a while and it didn't come back so I had to do airplane mode.
One other thing I noticed was that after you make a call on 3g data comes right back, which didn't happen for me before.

If I could figure it out using the phandroid app I would.

Go over to the xda bionic development section and you will see a thread about fastboot restore, the how to and the file is there, you should also see a thread about project cheesecake or unlocking the bootloader, in the first post will be a link to the apk and directions on how to download the update
 
OK, so as I am reading this - I need to use a brand new method for rooting my device, which means taking my device back to complete stock, then letting is use the ZergRush (love the SC/SCII reference there) and finally having a brand new, different root method on my phone? And then I can get the update and flash it with new radio, etc....

Wow, that is a lot of work for an update. But, I also had no idea that some phones were running newer OS versions than mine OOB _ I see the P3 has created an 886 --> 893, as well as an 891 --> 893 and an 892 --> 893. So, versions 891 and 892 must exist out there somewhere in the wild, whether by limited OTA updates or whether by newer phones being bought in the stores. Hmmm.

I wonder if I can get one of the direct updates from P3 and run it over my phone and see if it works or not? I'm going to (obviously) make sure that I have 1) a working Nandroid backup, and 2) an alternate rooting method (ZergRush sounds like a winner) in case the original root method breaks with .893....
 
It all sounds rather daunting for a minimal payoff. Unless there is a compelling reason to do this i'll hold off for a few days until someone comes up with a one-button method.
 
If you're not having radio issues, etc., then yes, the payoff is minimal. However, those with radio issues, the payoff could be potentially huge.

Same applies to other facets of the update that get applies to the phone.

You can get the updates over at mydroidworld. I would not flash them until you flash back to stock and reroot using the one click restore aend root. Then do the forever root method from
P3 and then you can flash them just to be safe you wont loose root.

I will post all the links when I get home
