Root Unroot from unrevoked forever

Brandis

Newbie
This may be on here somewhere, but I cannot find this newer than last year, and I am trying to do this now! My internet has recently dropped out from under me and I need to get it fixed, but I cannot get rid of the superuser app. We tried to resolve problems over the phone, but they need to see it in the store because all of my updates are in a never ending pended state!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
moved you to the rooting section.

have you tried to update your prl and profile? what rom are you on?

and if you want to unroot, we need to know what your hboot is? power off then press and hold power+vol down.

I have ran updates, one person said they went through properly, another said they were not completing. I have my phone and my husband's side by side and his is running 10X as fast, thus working as a hotspot. Mine is just recognized but not functioning.

Hboot 2.10.0001
Radio 2.15.00.11.19

It has not allowed me to use wireless on and off either. When I have previously attempted to take off unrevoked it has left on superuser. I speak very little droid, so I would appreciate if you dumb it down for me.

Thankyou!

do you have s-off? power off then press and hold power+vol down. this wil take you to the booloader(hboot) screen. at the top it will either say s-on or s-off.

also can you can to recovery? in the same screen there should be a recovery option. if you select it and you get a red triangle then you have a stock recovery.

answer those two questions then we can proceed to troubleshoot.

S-on. I have attempted to turn this off before, but that never has lasted :(

Here is what I found under recovery:

ClockworkMod Recovery V2.6.0.1
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:updat.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
-go back

... I guess I will wait on this screen :)

ok so you are not completely unrooted. you have s-on but you do not have a stock recovery. if you really want to be unrooted then you need to install a stock rom and stock recovery.

or if you want to get s-off then try and run unrevoked again. what does it say when you try running it?

I was completely unrooted at one point. I think somewhere along the lines something has happened that has to the phone somehow, because until today it was working fine (definitely through Friday... not sure I have been on a computer since then). I am not sure what running "it" is. Do you mean unrevoked? Which version would you suggest of unrevoked? I do not think that will work though, but I have been surprised before.

My ultimate goal is to be able to get Sprint to fix or replace it, or get it back to speed without them. I use the internet over it for business purposes, so I need it asap!

So I am still in the clockwordmod, should I just back out of that?

I also forgot to mention, the only thing I used my phone for between when it worked and it quit was as a phone/facebook/ebay as usual and GPS. I installed nothing.

ok so unrooting is a two step process you need to get s-on which you have. but, the second step is to get a stock rom and more importantly a stock recovery.

so all you need to do is the second step.
1.download this file:MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
2.rename the file by erasing everything in the name but PC36IMG. do not add an extra zip as windows hides extensions
3.transfer the file to the root of the sd card that means not in any folder. just on the card.
4.reboot into hboot
5.when hboot scans and finds the file select yes to update

now you should be fully unrooted.

I retried several times, and it finally let me through and downloaded. It added two files and RU file and a setup file. Which one do I use?

do not extract it. just put the entire folder unzipped on your card. your hboot on your phone will do everything.

just follow the steps i gave you.

Maybe my computer was so nice as to extract it without an offer, I did not extract it myself. I will try to load it again.

There are few ways to tell if you were rooted at one point and that is if you still have the su app on your phone and if you still had a custom recovery. When you unoot your rom should be stock with no su app and you should have a stock recovery as well. Also you should have s-on which you do. All you need to do now is to uninstall any rooted apps, if you have any.

No longer worried about the signs of being rooted, it was a double network outage. Can you tell me how to reroot? My phone no longer goes to HBOOT when I hold down on power and down volume.

thats gonna be fastboot for ya. go into settings and power and then uncheck fastboot. Fastboot makes it so it just has to do the boot animation and not the htc evo 4g thing. And if you want to reroot just go to the rooting for dummies for gingerbread and just follow the steps. verry well worded and makes a lot of sense. If you have any other questions just ask
