Help why should I allow updates

Stopping auto updates is easy, but what is the benefit of updating?

In reference to stock apps I never use (scvngr, where, etc.), I will never allow updates. But should I be updating apps I use? Like my browser? Do you?

I like to keep my phone about 50% empty and dont want wasted memory on worthless updates.

Cheers!

You always want to update to the newest version of an app your using. The updates have fixes for little bugs that were noticed by other users.
It never hurts to keep the system/app partition at 50% or above. Just make sure you don't fill up your uSD card in order to accomplish it.

The more apps you have on the uSD card the slower the phone is rebooting on reboots and coming from off position. I know because I have a total of 135 installed apps. 115 are on the uSD card and it takes more than 9 min to reboot.

Preloaded apps, whether on stock or a custom rom, are stored in the system/app folder. Any downloaded apps or updates to system apps are stored in the data/app folder.

You should be updating all of the apps on your phone weather you use them or not. As mentioned, they have bug fixes and the like but the most important are getting vulnerability fixes (security fixes that keep you safe). Security updates are by far the most important reason to keep all of your apps up to date.

Thanks for the input all.

Even if I never open an app, is it still a security risk to not install updates?

That would depend on what the supposed vulnerability is and how it could be exploited. It's difficult to give an exact answer to that, but I would rather be safe than sorry and just update the apps I have as the updates come. This is just me though.

I recommend doing more research and make your own informed choice based on the knowledge you gain.

Sage advice.

On Market, I can select the 'Whats New' tab and see what changes are made too the current version .

I always read the latest reviews too. If the majority of people are complaining about an update, I'll pass on it and check back later to see if it's been fixed.
