Incredible 2 Battery Saving tips thread

Yeah, it is the same option as what is available under "customize" instead of "advanced" and I have tried them both now. It still plays out the first song, then quits. When I wake the screen Pandora says "waiting for connection" then my 3g comes back on and a-way it goes again playing like normal.
This is the only thing keeping me from using JD right now. Very frustrating.
I wrote a ticket over at JD's site, but no specific reply producing a fix. I have had the same issue in Virtuous and Newt's HD but come to think of it I haven't tried on an AOSP yet.
If you aren't having the same problems, what ROM are you running?

I am running stock 2.3.4.

Ninth and tenth settings under triggers tab:

Apps setting needs to be enabled then under
Configure setting:

Enable/screen off : keep connectivity enabled also when the screen goes off; use this for online radio/audio streaming apps.

This will bring up a list off all your apps you have installed & prompt you to configure them, or just hit interactive it will let you configure apps as you open them. (might be easier this way)

If that setting doesn't work, then yes, you might need to use an AOSP based ROM (don't know much about custom ROMs, whIch are AOSP based & are not) to keep your Pandora running using jd plus/ultimate.

I am in no way trying to come off as smartalek or condescending by giving the exact settings like that, TAR. I just would really hate to ditch JD for the use of one app. Also, I would not want to see anyone else have to do the same, or not be able to use it b/c of connectivity issues in one app; if I could in some way help them.

No worries there G22. I take no offense. In fact, I greatly appreciate you being very detailed since I still am unable to get it to work for me. Still. :(
Unfortunately Pandora is a deal breaker for me. I needs my KRS-One station!
Hopefully JD gets this figured out. I don't want to leave Newt's HD yet.
Thanks for your help!

New JD beta 3.7.9 is available. This might be the one :)

Edit: This build has fixed "Bluetooth enable on charger" for me. "Screen off/device lock" still not working.

Juice Defender beta 3.8 available.

Edit: Juice Defender Free (not beta) and Ultimate have been updated to 3.8 on the Market.

Juice Defender 3.8.1 beta now available. Includes "fixes and Honeycomb support". The Timeout feature is still not working for me.

Bought my DInc2 from Best Buy for $50 w/ 2 year contract on Monday. First couple of days I had HORRIBLE battery like. Messed around on google trying to change settings, doing this and that. The single point failure on my battery was being in Global. When from having about 6 hours worth of battery life to 2 days with normal use. Settings, Call, Preferred Network, CDMA Mode. Love my new phone!

After my first charge I had a good 40 hours of battery life. Since the next few days it has gone down considerably. I just changed to the CDMA mode, so will see if that helps. Also going to look into the Juice Defender. Is that a free app on the market?

Yes, there's a free version of Juice Defender on the Market. There are also "Plus" and "Ultimate" versions. Give the free version a try and if it makes a difference consider upgrading as Plus and Ultimate give you much more control (and better savings). By the way the Market is updated much more frequently than Amazon, so definitely get it at the Market.

Hi, folks. I have been lurking on the forums for the past several months trying to get the best phone that I could at the time. I got my Incredible 2 from Amazon ($.01) last week on Thursday. I got the OTA update the same day.
I made this decision after listening to you guys (and girls) talk about this phone. Although I WANTED dual core and the 4.3 screen, I decided that i didn't want the headaches associated with 4G at this time since I don't expect to have 4G access until somewhere around this time next year in my area.
I want to express my appreciation to all on this forum and particularily this thread for their help.
When I got the phone, I bump charged it right out of the box and also D/L'ed Juice Defender (free version) along with a couple of other apps. The phone works great and, other than the initial learning experience, I have not had any problems.
I left for Wash. D.C. the day after I got the phone and am pleased to report that I have, so far, gone 4d 21H + on the battery with re-charging. This from moderate use of mostly web browsing and a few calls.
I showed the stats to my Tbolt friend today and noticed a look of disbelief(?) on his face when he saw the usage stats.
Thanks for the help and information.
I will continue to 'lurk' and maybe even join in sometimes.

One questino: Where can I get the app that people keep mentioning after data speeds and performance of the phone?
Thanks.

The Market might update more frequently but it's MUCH cheaper on Amazon. I just bought JD Ultimate for $1.99 on Amazon, I believe it's amost $4 on the Market?
My usage stats say about x2.2-2.3 with the Ultimate installed but it seems to be running out of juice sooner. Has anybody seen that? I just rooted and installed CM7 and loaded JD Ultimate right after and my battery life seems worse. What gives?

derfid, I believe you are talking about Linpack and Quadrant, both of which should be available on the Market for free.

Yes, Amazon is currently offering a much better deal for JD Ultimate Vs the Market. Until very recently though they didn't even offer Ultimate - they only had Plus and it hadn't been updated since April. I was using Plus from Amazon, but eventually bought Ultimate on the Market ($5.00) because I got fed up with waiting. I've noticed that in general Amazon is slower to provide the latest versions of apps. In the case of Juice Defender being five months behind the Market was simply unacceptable and now I don't trust them.

Regarding your battery life becoming worse you made some significant changes. I don't have any experience with rooting and using different ROMs, but perhaps CM7 is less battery efficient? Other rooted users can speak to this better.

I will be getting my first smart phone in the next week or so and have settled on the DInc2 after looking around a lot. I won't be rooting or anything for a while (if ever) but have a question regarding some of the posts I've seen here. I know that Verizon loves to load up their phones with a ton of useless junk. Several posters have stated they're running the stock ROM with the bloatware frozen. How does one go about freezing that stuff? I don't want Verizon's garbage running on the phone if there's a way to kill it.

I don't imagine the bloatware from VZ can be removed without rooting the phone and I may get around to playing with that one day but not right away with my first smart phone. I've been lurking around here all day (at work of course) trying to pick up info that will help me when I get the phone.

The bloat shouldn't cause you any troubles. You can hide it of you use Launcher Pro as a home replacement if you don't want to see it. Otherwise the only way to get rid of it is to gain root access to delete them (or freeze with Titanium).
I recommend rooting. If you can understand the directions to do it, you can handle it. The community here is a great help if you get stuck or have questions. Just don't do something until you know the plan from beginning to end and always, ALWAYS make a backup of your STOCK ROM before flashing anything new or deleting anything or doing ANYTHING after you gain superuser access (root).
Like I said though, if you can live with the bloat and don't aspire to gain root, you will be very happy with the phone stock. It is a great phone.
Welcome to the community!

Hey all, been using a replacement OEM battery from Amazon for 10 bucks, and I could not be happier.

It's hard to believe that I have had this phone for like 9 months (I really thrashed the battery), so I went with a new OEM, and i am back to new-like battery life.

best 10 bucks i spent, recently.

Note: they say it's a 1500 mah batter (that is false), and the "retail packaging" ain't so retail. But it is identical to the one i pulled out of my phone (1450 mah), model number matches, and hey - it works.

How would you say exactly you have"thrashed" the battery?
Are you talking about normal use, charging it everyday, or charging it multiple times a day?

So, probably a good "rule of thumb" (lol boondock saints) would be to get a new one every 8 to ten months?

Thanks...

I thought it a bit "odd" to say the least that it's listed as a 1500mah battery when it's really a 1400mah battery and that it's listed as 'retail packaging' when the reviews state that it's being sent in a simple plastic bag. It really makes one wonder about the seller..........

I did a LOT of multiple-times-per-day charging. Bad signal at work.

Now, with the new battery i just keep the 3g off at work, and deal with it. It's not like leaving the radio on gave me much function (1x at 0 bars is very slow). Still I think you are right, the rule of thumb is a new battery between 8-10 months, I was right in there at 9 months (got phone launch weekend).

However, with juice defender, underclocking, and Cyanogenmod 7, I am easily getting 30+ hours of standby time with light use. It's awesome.

And, that movie is amazing.

Re: the seller - yeah it's a little bit suspect. but it's still OEM for 10 bucks. Hard to argue with that.

Am I doing it right?

I recently updated to JD 3.8.3 beta and did not back up 3.8.2 like i usually do, now i want to switch back to the previous version. I searched for a good while and was unable to find this apk anywhere to download it again. I usually keep two versions behind of every app with system panel so, if i don't like an update i can go back.

Anyone know where I can snatch it up again?
Thanks.
