Verizon IS "exclusive" re-seller in U.S. per Samsung spokeswoman

Come on google, release it on all networks. I'm sitting on an upgrade with sprint and my hero is on it's last legs. I can wait til Dec if Verizon will have a 2 week to a month exclusive, but not 3 months or longer. I would have to decide between ET4G (which will get ICS officially in 2013) and iphone 4s (please don't make me choose this phone) if it's that long of an exclusive. Make my decision easy google and release it on all networks. No exclusivity.

I am in the same boat but with att instead. Don't see any ics devices coming out in the near future. If I go off previous history with att and nexus devices I am looking at 6 Month wait before gn will hit att

Except... Apple is very quick about releasing dates as soon as official announcement is made. That's probably the MAIN REASON WHY they sell so many iPhones despite the fact that Galaxy S2 and others are much better phones.

And.. why didn't Galaxy S2 come to the U.S. a lot sooner? The arrival of S2 is way too close to the release of Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus. I don't get what Samsung and these carriers are thinking. Are they just letting Apple and the iPhone win? Sometimes, I don't get how a single product can dominate like that. Imagine if Apple decides to take a different approach and release a second type of smartphone to counter all those Android phones. With all the money they have... I am pretty sure they can do that.

I am also certain that there will be a few that would be willing to give up their iPhone 4S and return it once they see how cool the Nexus or Note looks. or even the Razr Droid. I would have done it if I saw the Galaxy S2 while shopping for iPhone 4.

And... the rumors are just all over the place. If Samsung-Google-Verizon just wants people to wait and wait so that they can create rumors, well... it's working.

People try their best to blame the carriers, but you will not convince me that all three carriers in the US are to blame for Samsung being slow EVERY YEAR. The Galaxy phones are developing a habit of being late to the party and all of our carriers cannot be blamed.

And you can bet money is being lost on people who may have chosen one, but are locked into a contract on an HTC, Motorola and now Apple device.

Samsung are slow at everything.
 
If it is going to be 3 months, you mine as well find another phone on your carrier because in 3 months there are sure to be better phones out or close to being out than this one.

The iPhone's success has nothing to do with the release dates. The iPhone's success comes more from marketing, brand loyalty and its design.

While the iPhone is released soon in the US, other countries have to wait longer to get the latest Apple products. It is probably because they can't produce enough phones to meet the initial demand, so they stagger the release dates. If Samsung had the production capacity, it would have released its phone sooner in the US.

Apple is an American company so it releases in the US first. Samsung is Korean so Korea is first to get its latest devices. Motorola is American so the RAZR will be first released in US. Nokia is Finnish and releases in the European markets first. Google is American and it looks like the Galaxy Nexus will likely hit the US first.
 
The iPhone is huge because it is simple to use and has a big a$$ app ecosystem to support it and tons of good apps. Android is getting their too, but Apple has it now and folks lap it up.

I think my iPod 4 rocks, but would not consider an iTunes gate for a phone. Nope.

Nothing to do with release dates? Sorry but if the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note and RAZR Droid were all announced on the same day as the iPhone 4S and they all released on the same date, Apple would have a hard time dominating the way they did.

In other markets, rival companies will try to release their products near each other to compete. Look at EA's Battlefield 3 vs. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty releasing a week or two of each other. The entire year, they've been battling for the top pre-order spot.

Again... imagine if iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus pre-order sales were competing against each other at the same time. Apple would definitely start losing customers to Android market. Not all but enough to affect them.

Look at how RAZR Droid got drowned out due to Samsung/Google announcing their Galaxy Nexus on the SAME day.

Recently, Apple was given a clear road to sell their phones without ANY competition. Due to Jobs' death, Galaxy Nexus announcement was delayed by couple weeks ...meanwhile, iPhone 4S was already released and sold few million in its first three days. No competition against Apple... that's why they succeeded big time this time around.

Samsung doesn't have the production capacity? Sorry, but Apple uses Samsung's processor, right? Do the math here... if Samsung couldn't produce, then Apple wouldn't be able to produce either. No parts from Samsung = No iPhone 4S.

Again, more and more I think about it... it's probably strategy deployed by Verizon to sell RAZR first while delaying the more popular Galaxy Nexus several days. (Again, the importance of release dates)

Also... if you look at recent history, it seems like Samsung has given a lot of phones to European carriers before the U.S. carriers get it. (Again, probably due to the carrier-Samsung relationship)

You saying "Google = American"... Google = Android = all Samsung phones. Your logic doesn't really add up here. According to the stuff I've been reading, NTT Docomo and European carriers were the first to announce Galaxy Nexus. Verizon was pretty much last.

I think the Moose is right but not for the reasons he thinks he's right. ;)

Releasing a phone close to it's announcement date does not ensure it will sell a ton of them. In fact I'd be willing to say it really has nothing to do with it. I'm sure some marketing person would say the hype of anticipation actually helps in sales.

The fact that Apple announces then acts is an example of why Apple succeeds. They have all their ducks lined up. From top to bottom they create a fluid experience for the user where every detail is scrutinized and tweaked. It's all planned out and executed to near perfection.

Contrast how the GNex went. An announcement date was released and then delayed for reasons which are still somewhat sketchy (or at least not entirely believable by everyone). They announced the product with two of the players and left the third out of it (or the third decided not to be part of it). It took the "exclusive" distributor a while to announce they were the "exclusive" distributor but they still gave no release date. This could be because of similar potentially competing products or it could be planned, we don't know. We still don't officially know if the LTE version is getting 16GB or 32GB. It had Gorilla Glass per Samsung, then it didn't per Corning.

To an Apple way of thinking all this confusion is nothing short of a complete PR catastrophe. They would NEVER bungle a product's release as Google / Samsung / Verizon did. That's why they win and will continue to win. Apple's announcement, pre-order and release are examples of how they have their act together.

I hate the SOBs but I've got to give them due credit.

You forgot the timely death of their CEO... which is the reason for the delay of Google/Samsung announcement. (Those guys were ready to compete with iPhone 4S that week)

Again, Apple releasing their product without anyone else giving them competition is THE main reason why they sold so much. (All thanks to Steve Jobs' death... he's not even alive and yet he still has an effect on his products...that's dedication right there.)

Also... the only reason people are now stuck buying Apple products is because the consumers are trapped after jumping on the bandwagon several years ago. Most college students and graduate students have Macbooks and iPods. It only makes sense to buy an iPhone since they are all compatible with each other. No hassles like you said. ANYONE can use all three products together and be happy.

Regarding iPhone consumers only... most of them have invested way too much in buying apps and need to keep getting iPhones so they don't lose those apps.

It's always difficult to knock off the incumbent leader. But I believe Samsung/Google collaboration can pull it off now that Jobs is gone. When a great leader like that is gone, it eventually creates a vacuum. People will jump ship and so forth. Happened to Sony, Microsoft... now Apple's turn.
 
Ironically, a lot of iPhone buyers were anticipating a new iPhone 5 that had a new sleek design with a possible curvature.

That phone turned out to be the Galaxy Nexus.

This is absolutely the top reason I've been slow to move to Android.

I bought a 3GS over 2 years ago specifically for compatibility: (a) with hardware accessories; and (b) with app availability and compatibility. It was the right move for me at the time because I didn't want to deal with a whole lot of hassle. Apple's market dominance simply made obtaining hardware and software easier, and I didn't feel Android Market was mature enough back then.

I knew what I was getting into but the investment in iOS apps has still been the single lingering factor that's delayed my escape from Apple, even though Android has now fully matured. But a taste of Android on a Bionic (which I've since dumped) confirmed that my investment still isn't enough to keep me on a platform as restrictive as iOS any longer.

Others won't be so easily convinced but Android's really at a turning point now: it has the OS, the apps, and the hardware to easily match or outdo Apple. With careful marketing it CAN easily capture people who haven't already moved to an iPhone, or those who are only lightly invested in iOS. That's where they need to focus their attention first. A slightly less hamfisted handling of key product launches would go a long way toward making that happen.

Verzion is the best carrier with the best coverage with the best network also best 4G coverage/network with LTE.. also Verizon had the exclusive on Android 2.0 if you remember correctly with the Droid, also Exclusive on 3.0 with the Xoom, oh and now look..... 4.0 is out and guess what... another .0 exclusive!! SURPRISED!?!?!?

Is that right? Well, I think most people don't know that history.

I'm gonna rush over from AT&T to get Nexus so it sounds like Verizon is Android-friendly.

I sense sarcasm, however yes it is all true. with the exception of this new device. nothing confirmed but i strongly feel the rumors are true
