***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I think everyone here needs to stop caring about a Verizon release date and start worrying about what really matters; an Unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus in the states.

For real Google. I need to be able to walk into a Best Buy on day 1 and give them my $529 and walk out with this phone. None of your US developers are on Verizon. Every Nexus phone has been released on T-mobile or ATT. How does a Verizon exclusive make sense. No one wants a thicker phone with worse battery life on a carrier that doesn't use an international standard.

So frustrating! Maybe its time to move to Windows Phone 7. ... except no AWS on the Lumia. Pentaband radios people. Get with the times!

I think that by waiting patiently for the new Nexus on the only US carrier on the horizon at the moment, with lots of concerns for scheduling to other US carriers - plus our camaraderie with our GSM world Nexolians - everyone here IS with the times! :)

Glad you're here now.

Cheers! :)

There are a lot of Devs with Verizon phones. Maybe not Nexus Devs, but Droid, Incredible, Thunderbolt, Fascinate, Charge, Incredible 2, etc. developers a plenty.

As far as thicker and poorer battery life, that remains to be seen. Battery life will probably suffer because of LTE, but new standards are like that.

So I'm at BJ's tonight with the kids (BJ's is a wholesale club like Sams or Costco, for those who's minds may start to wander).

Unlike Costco, they have Verizon owned store Kiosks in them, but you also get some deals that the traditional Verizon stores don't get. Anyway....I'm lurking around, looking at the Bionic and other devices, and was going to start some chit-chat with the Verizon guy if there was any info on the GNex. But he was busy with a customer interested in the iPhone4S. To my surprise, the Verizon guy was trying to talk the customer out of the iPhone, steering him towards 4G phones.

The customer was arguing with him, telling him the iPhone was 4G. It had to be 4G, because it was an iPhone 4. He was saying that Apple didn't put 4 on it if it wasn't 4G. Apple knows what they are doing, and wouldn't put a 4 on it if it wasn't 4G. The 4 means 4G, and if the Verizon guy knew anything, he'd know that's why apple put a 4 on it. 4 means 4G. And the reason they didn't come out with an iPhone5 was that 5G service isn't available yet, but it will be next year when they come out with the iPhone5.

Just wanted to share the mindset that the clueless customer has. Not only do they believe things like that, but he also thought the world revolved around apple and that 5G service would only be available when they came out with the iPhone5.

After a few minutes of watching that unfold, I had to split. The Verizon guy gave me the look like he wanted out too.

Lmao. You shouldve stepped in to help the verizon guy out.

I've been here for what seems like ages. .... or just about 15k posts. Need some new info! At least official pricing would be wonderful.

Damn, i leave for 90 minutes and have 3 pages to read through on the app. All good points made about it being ignorant of vzw AND the general public to use veterans day so whimsically. I thank all of you who have served so I can sit here all sweaty after my class at the gym and read my favorite thread and not worry about my safety.

Carry on Gnexers!

I love watching train wrecks like that, but I feel bad for those involved. I would have point the Verizon rep to notalwaysright.com.

I would not have been able to stand quietly for that one. The poor guy at BJ's/Verizon was probably dying trying to be nice.

Long time lurker on this forum, posted a bit on DInc forum. Been waiting on this phone since Verizon passed on the SGSII as my DInc gets the low on space notification every couple of days now.

Thanks to everyone here for entertaining me while we wait. I don't understand the really technical stuff, but I've learned a lot. (And I scare a lot of my family and friends when I start talking about phone stuff.)

I definitely want to get a desk dock for this phone. Any idea how the charging would work if the phone were in a case? I'd hate to have to give up contact charging and plug it in because I put the phone in a case.

Does Spring have a data tracker? You'd be able to judge how much you use so you can figure out the right spot in the tiered system VZW has. I'm not too sure about the tethering - that's something I've been considering/wondering myself. I would use it infrequently so I might just do the root route. Hope your transition goes smoothly!

I currently use between 2 and 4GB on Sprint mostly 3G; although I live in a 4G market the sprint coverage is awful...thinking it could be higher on LTE.

They did warn me about the roaming charges, but at .004/Kb I thought I would be fine checking in on my favorite forum...didn't realize Google Music was still syncing my off-line beach mix :D my bad, but still gonna try and use the "remove that charge or close my account" argument...either way I am leaving Sprint.

As high end account for Sprint (~117 /mo)...I'm hoping they will give me a break on the roaming charges? Anyway LTE and Gnex here I come :)

Oh and one more question to the VZ veterans - I will obviously not have the unlimited data that you all rightfully covet...I use way more data on my phone than calls or text so I was thinking of going with the 39.99 voice (use google voice and group me for texting) and the 50.00 or 70.00 data...my company has a 100$ max that they will pay for cell service...do I need to pay for the hotspot add on (I use it often with Sprint...I like to work from the golf course on my netbook)...will I be able to get the additional data with a root and a free hotspot, or should I just bite the bullet and pay the surcharge (although VZ is still better than the 30 dollar add-on I am paying sprint).

Thx again to all, cant wait till the 17th!

Welcome and happy to have ya here. If I were in your position, I would start out with the small data package and the hot spot, just to keep it all lagit, use the data app built into ICS that they showed in the initial presitation. That looks like it will be a VERY useful tool for a LOT of people. one thing that verizon is good about, (cause it just means more money for them) they will happily at any time bump you pu to the next tier of data. Just my thoughts

im in the same exact boat, except mine happens 2-3 times a day and its WAY beyond frustrating.

Awesome and common with the fruit phone...so by this logic the SGIII will go back to 3G...nothing to see here folks grab the Gnex and be happy!

God bless hard working sales reps, everywhere.

I may not always need them for product knowledge, but I often need them to explain or smooth a deal for me. I don't mind ever paying a buck extra over mail order to give a well-earned commission.

This iPhone 4G business - reminds me of three things:

First, I was surprised by this summer's statistic that lots of iPhone owners thought that. A big percentage.

Second, that this is incurable. This morning while moderating Phandroid, I had to break up a RAZR/Gnex fight because - I am not making this up - one of them was hiding that the SAMOLED Advanced screen was actually trade named SAMOLED Minus. For minus the PenTile and that made it better than SAMOLED +.

Finally - every Evo owner knows that against the iPhone, it's all about the geebees, and I will leave it to someone else to post the vid if they want (thanks in advance for an NSFW behind a hide ;)).

Well I *thought* I'd seen your name hereabouts, apologies for my confusion! :)

Still glad you're here now, tho.

OK, sounds like you know - these penta radios - production and power practical or what??
