***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hello, I'm a new member, but not necessary new to this forum. Since I spend so much time here, I decided to become a member. I just want to introduce myself.

I found this forum when looking for a replacement for my ageing unreliable LG Chocolate 3. I decided my next phone will be a smartphone because my friends have them and I'm jealous of their capability. My first phone was an LG VX8300 (I miss the reliability of that phone and the nearly two week battery life), which I replaced it with the Chocolate 3. This phone has had problems since I got it, but since they were random and sometimes different, Verizon could not duplicate them while it was under warranty. I just lived with it for almost three years now and looking forward to replacing it.

I've never really liked the size or cost of smart phones. I didn't like the whole $30 a mouth data plan, which is like an extra $720 for two years. But now I think it'll be worth it. I love the small size and lightness of my Chocolate 3, but I realize a smartphone will be larger, so I decided if its going to be large, it should be thin, so I decided to get a Samsung Galaxy S2.

Since the SGS2 is available in other countries, I figured the USA would get it in the near future. So I waited and waited and waited. Then when we did get it, Verizon chose not to, but promised something better in the near future, the Nexus Prime.

So I gave up on the SGS2 and started following the Nexus Prime thread pretty much from the beginning. And waited and waited and waited.

It's been's been exciting following this phone and always looking forward to coming home from work and getting on my computer to check this thread (cant do it from my phone). I think it'll be worth the wait, and when we do get our Gnex phones, we'll appreciate it even more. I keep waiting while missing calls because my Chocolate 3 always turns itself off or doesn't ring or even vibrate sometimes when someone calls so I get voicemails because I miss calls.

I think its crazy to have over 25,000 posts in a thread about a phone that is not for sale.

To end my first post, we joke about the Apple guys being "Sheep" or "Isheep". I like to think of us as a heard of cattle waiting in line to be milked for stimulation and relief. While entertaining each other by Mooing over 25,000 times in the mean time. I feel as if the gate to the Verizon Wireless Ranch was opened up and I walked in and to the back of the line. MOO!

Welcome! Great first post! :)

I know saying this will probably curse everything, but we usually get news on Thursdays about the G-nex. With tomorrow being the Thursday before a supposed launch, could be good. With that said, I don't expect any real news until after the Rezound goes on sale Monday. They don't want the G-nex to steal any sales from those things (RAZR, Rezound). From the looks of things on a droid-life poll, the g-nex will outsell those phones 3:1. Can't believe we've all survived waiting this long. Launch is soon, whether next week or the week after (or the week after) :)

I disagree with the 3:1 the people who take the poll are all the people who want the best device! Verizon will push people toward the RAZR and Rezound in stores so people who don't know any better will buy those. So the actual sales for those will be higher.

I hope blue is available. I'm so used to that for my Handcent messages. :)
Some white LEDs use red, green and blue sub element LEDs to produce white light. They can also be individually controlled, to emit many colors of the spectrum.

So if this already blinks red, green, white, and yellow, then it's quite possible it has the capability for blue.

Just a guess, but I'm hoping for a blue LED as well. But, even if present, there's also the issue that it needs to be controlled through software.

I guess the question is : are there more nerds who know that the Nexus is the boss in this round, or more sheep listening to whatever the VZ reps tell em?

As this release nears I decided to go ahead and register and stop the lurking. First off I have had mixed feeling about Verizon over these past 11K posts since I made my way here from the iPhone forums which is what I will be replacing for the Nexus (if Verizon will ever give me the chance to give them my money). The people here seem very down to earth though; which is a huge change from some of the postings elsewhere dealing with my iPhone. After the release of the 4S I knew it was time to switch it up and with ICS/Nexus looking very impressive I decided to go ahead and take the leap.

I am in a weird predicament, seeing that I am moving to an area that has no AT&T service (AT&T is what I currently use) and have an option of Sprint or Verizon. Verizon recently putting up their first 3g towers about 8 months ago according to the rep I spoke with over the phone.:roll eyes: SOunds like an awesome place doesn't it? Ill thank the military I am sure after the first few weeks there.

The part I didn't know was that these could be mixed. :)

Multi Color LED

Seems to me that if they already are getting four colors, then even if software is required, the heavy lifting is done - unless they're using something completely different that above.

You know VZW is starting to remind me of with all this Nexus-ness??

Pirates of Silicon Valley scene - "You make people need you" - YouTube

You know how you survive? You make people need you. You survive because you make them need what you have. And then they have no where else to go.

Funny thing is, considering what my personal opinion is on Gates/MSFT, I think I just paid VZW a COMPLIMENT!!!!

Of course, when it comes to THE NEXUS, maybe we can channel a little Bill Gates ourselves........ I think we feel about the Nexus how Bill felt about the GUI on the Lisa.......... ;)

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your service.

If Verizon only got 3G a few months ago, imagine how bad Sprint's service would be there.

Ding! Ding! Ding! my thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, there are gonna be more sheep then geeks. But who cares we will be enjoying our awesome phones while the sheep are dealing with bloat and slow updates.

Amen. And they probably won't ever know any better....but as long as they're happy whatever.

My mother is a nerd sheep, you insensitive ...

OK, never mind, just kidding.

My apologies, I have to remember that nerd sheep are people too :)

Ok - now that accessories are rolling, it's time for that famous thread to get started, so I'll seed the idea first.

Now that you'll have an HD display in your pocket all of the time, what monster apps will you rock?

Ok, so everyone knows about Netflix, Hulu and using things like Handbrake (or many others) to prepare your Legal Only Blu-ray rips(*) but what about others?

Since I'm not a big gamer, I'll toss out - Crackle (free movies from Sony, ad-supported) and CrunchyRoll (free legal anime and Japanese movies via wifi) - both free in the Market.

How will you rock and roll when you get the big screen?

(* footnote)
Do I even have to say what happens to anyone linking to, suggesting, or even breathing about sites that bypass legal copyrights or get within a mile of any sort of piracy?

Of course not - I didn't think so - cheers, thanks. :)

PS - If you're not sure, PM your favorite mod before posting. There are no penalties for asking questions privately. ;)

I thought Crackle looked good but it took my 6 yr old, 4 hours to watch "Short Circuit 2" the other day because of all the ads. It's still a free alternative though if you have the time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't see ever watching movies or tv on my phone but maybe that all changes with the kind of res the sgn has. We'll see!

ok, just thought i should share my view on the whole "verizon wont announce the date of the gnex until after (insert phone here) is launched and off the ground" theory. the biggest flaw i see in this theory is that verizon announced the razr(their supposed favorite), then promptly announced the rezound before the razr was ever launched in store. i would think that if they didnt want to step on the toes of a phones launch it would have been the razr, and by announcing the rezound before the razrs in store launch, this theory of not wanting to announce the gnex before (insert phone here) launch day is completely shot. im not sure when we will have a solid release date officially from verizon, but i definitely think that the release of the rezound will not impact the timing of the announcement, all things considered.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner?

Ha! I did have chicken for dinner!

I just have to say that I just stumbled upon this thread today and my productivity as work has gone to hell. Thanks a lot! :p

Welcome to our world!

Welcome to the past month of my life.
+1 me too

Definitely. My phones are subjected to much abuse in the depths of my purse, so a case and screen protector are a must.

I agree - no matter how hard I try to keep it at the top and away from the other stuff it always worms it way down there

Having the cases in stores makes me feel a bit better that this won't be a web only release. Because there's really not much of a reason to have the cases if the phone isn't even there.

Unles they are counting on people getting the phone and then coming to the store because they have no idea how to use it.

LMAO!!! Not good when sitting in my cube with no privacy. But a nice way to end the day!

Hi All! One of the quiet lurkers out there but that was too funny! Had to pipe in.

Sheesh - not even a full 3 hours and I come back to read 4 pages - I am caught up now.

Early,

Should we start a new thread on how best to utilize Handbrake to put our movies on our new friend? I know we had one in the Incredible forum, but there didn't seem to be a consensus on what were the settings.

I would love to put my LEGALLY OWNED movies on my phone, but not really used to Handbrake.
