Root What speed is everyone running at with the phone being stable?

Droid runnung bugless 8.7

Yes, you do need SetCPU but you also need to download a kernel and then flash it or install the 'boot only' Nandroid backup in recovery......it is hard to explain without going step by step.

Solution: Switch from Bugless Beauty to Bugless Beast. You will have to back everything up as it will wipe your phone. Beast is the same ROM as Beauty but it has Overclocking and the WiFi fix done for you already. The only downside to this is that you cannot use (from what I've read) TempMonitor 2.2.0 to view your CPU temperature (only battery temperature). You have to have Taz's kernel for that. If I'm wrong...someone correct me as I haven't tested this. You can download the kernel seperate and just load the 'boot' portion of the Nandroid backup but I don't know if that would cause problems with Beast.

Here are some pics of the TempMonitor Program. I'm running at 950MHz currently cause the new 1GHz kernel from Taz was not as stable for me as the "evilboot 1GHz" was.

It all depends on your processor, 1300 wont work for everyone, it's not so much which ROM is more stable. Every processor is different ever so slightly, and some will be able to handle the 1300, but others wont. Still, 950-1000 is damn good considering stock is 550, heh. Don't push your phones too hard guys. Joe just got lucky with a good processor and not all of ours will be able to do that. If you're getting any sort of reboots, ramp it down a notch or two.

yea mine wouldnt even boot at 1.1, but it does run 1000 just fine

It doesn't necessarily mean that is the limit of your phone. A lot of guys were saying that 1.1 and 950mhz were both stable, but 1g was not. It could be a similar problem. If you want to see what is what, you might want to just try 1.3 for the hell of it.

So i have my profiles:

(right when you open it): 250 min 1 ghz max
Power < 100% min at 250 and max at 1 ghz..

All other profiles such as charging, sleep and failsafe have a min of 125 and max of 550.

But my question is why does it seem like it takes a while for it to reach 1 ghz? Maybe it's just me and I'm used to it being so fast.. But it just seems like it takes a bit once it's awake. So is it safe to put the min at 550 and max still at 1 ghz? Just wondering.. Idk how my battery life will be though. Also would those settings have any affect on phone calls or anything like that? Thanks.

Those settings should not affect phone calls. The only thing I've heard is people reporting missed phone calls with the SetCPU min=125. I believe a lot of the ROMs now only go to 250 at the lowest.
The settings you asked about, may shorten battery time, since the processor can only throttle down to 550. But they are 'safe' to run at.

I'm running at 250/950 for most profiles. Lovin it!! No crashes so far, but only rooted in the last two hours or so. Its so fast, lovin' the competition with my Nexus One brothers! ha ha

See that's what I figured.. I think i'm going to run a full days test and see how it does with battery life.. we'll see! Thanks!

im a new rooter lol..and new overclocker..doing what with your phone would you notice the speed difference the most in..i feel its hard to judge with somethings so im curious where others notice there overclocking kicking in

opening apps, scrolling, zooming (pinch to zoom is exceedingly smooth), switching between screens/apps....everything is faster

I have been running at 1g/250 mhz min for over a week with no issues (been thinking of trying 1.3 actually) When I first set my profiles on SetCPU I had my min for sleep/charging at 125 but experienced issues occasionally when receiving a call/message when the phone was asleep it would act quirky and not respond for 1-2 seconds. Since then I tried the min at 250 and have had no issues since.

1g/250 min

charging 250/250

sleep 250/250

power < 25% 550/250

failsafe > 43.5 550/250

I didn't even try the 1.3GHz yet, I might have to now :)

Browser loads 2x as fast....why? it renders pages better... Everything opens faster! It's AWESOME!!

btw, I have my setting to 550/1ghz for screen on and I LOVE IT!! highly recommend it! It makes everything even faster! It gets up to speed quicker and I love it! Try it out! Battery life seems fine too! just keep all mins at 125 and you'll be fine! :)

How is your temperature looking with the 1GHz max 550MHz min?

How is your temperature looking with the 1GHz max 550MHz min?

With just normal texting, using apps (I am not a gamer so no games for me), apps like phandroid, weather, other various ones, flipping through screens it seems fine. About high 80's MAYBE low 90's? I have to test it more.. I've only been using it since this morning.

Now the only difference I've truly noticed is when I use the internet:
It's seems to get to 1ghz faster but I also noticed that it gets higher in temp. Around 104 - 111 ish. Now my fail safe is set to 107.. Why doesn't it kick in? Does it take time or what? I do worry about that..

But in conclusion after half a day of use, I think it's safe to use long term! It rocks! Battery life is normal! if not better! (weird i know...) And using it is SUPER FASTER INSTANTLY!

I second this.

Does anyone know if factory default throttles down to 250 min? Or is this something root users are forcing?

I believe the unrooted, non-overclocked is a constant 550Mhz. I don't think it can throttle down without a program like SetCPU.

I wasn't seeing any improvement at 800. Matter of fact it would get hung up a bit more than before. I also read that the charging profile for setcpu is keeping it at 800mhz rather than dropping. I noticed this as well. Makes me concerned about what it's at during sleep/standby. Just to be safe and let everyone else iron out the details for a while I decided to go with bugless beauty for a while and just enjoy life..

Anywhere from 800Mhz to 1Ghz works well on my phone. I switch between these two settings. My phone is pretty stable at both but, obviously, it really purrs at 1Ghz.

800Mhz = 7 Series BMW
1Ghz = Bentley GT

Your phone may not be stable at @800MHz. Try running it at 950 (that's the next step with the new kernels).

I run 1000 now. when I ran 950 it would FC all the time, but 1ghz works like a charm and no temp issues

For me: Old kernels (evilboot titled) = 1GHz running great. New kernels = 1GHz feels sluggish and hangs up a little. 950 MHz works like a champ. (1.1 and 1.3 no go but I keep trying them in case :( ) Just try different speed overclocks to see if you phone has a personal favorite.

I'm running 1.2 Ghz, no problem. SholesMod 2.0.5.

Same here. 1.2 Seems stable and wicked fast but the phone can get pretty warm. The temp monitor seems to flake out a little with the new kernel so I don't know if the temps I'm getting are right for the battery but the processor temp right now is 31 deg F so I know that isn't working properly. I had the battery up to over 120 deg F (if it is accurate) under full load (GPS, apps, music, etc.)

Yea I'm pretty sure the ROM you are on has something to do with how how you can oc... I was having some fc's at 1.1 GHz on BB, but am perfectly stable at 1.2GHz with Sholes 2.0.5
