***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Actually, that is the easy answer. Google+ is far from a Facebook or Twitter "answer." I have been on G+ from the start and it is not a social network in the term most of us think. It is a tool for sharing information. Articles, photos, blogs, etc. It is a lot like Google Reader or blogs on steroids. The discussions on G+ are deep and poignant. It is nothing like Facebook. Much more like Twitter as far as sharing information but without the 140 character limit so content is more in-depth.

But this isn't a thread on G+ so to bring it back on topic, no you don't need it to get your GNex to work properly (though Samsung does promote that G+ is fully integrated - whatever that means). I am sure video chat and messaging on the GNex will run through Google+. You also no longer need to sign up for Google+. If you have a Google Account (which every Android user has), you are in and you can circle me ;)

Just wanted to chime in on G+.

Like MoPhoMan said, G+ is far from being the "answer to FB &Twitter". Those who think its simply a knee jerk reaction from Google is understating the creation of G+.

G+ is Google's own way of tying all of their products with a social platform. In the future I believe G+ will evolve into Google itself.

I think I may go to my neighborhood Verizon store tomorrow and check out the razr. Forgot the Rezound is dropping tomorrow as well. Should give me something to compare each phone to. I was going to make a smart remark about each phone about their sizes and weights but I forgot about the previous mod PSA about dogging the phones so decided to write this last sentence instead :)

The razr keeps calling me even though I cant mod my 4g xoom with out losing my radios. And my DX bootloader locked. Yet with all my complaining about my Motorola products I keep looking at the razr. Hmmm... must be how ifans feel :D

Good news because I hate Facebook! During my time on FB, it was a spy in on all your long lost high school buddies website. I'm sure it serves a better purpose for others. When I got on twitter, I followed strangers who are leaders in their organization and top bloggers. If G+ is like this, then that's where I want to be. Google Music will be the next tie-in I suppose.

Neither the RAZR nor the ReZound sound attractive to me. Not after learning about Nexus. If I get Nexus and it doesn't twist my knickers as I expect it to, then I still have 2 more upgrades on my plan to try for another phone in 2012.

But I think I'll leave the Verizon store with my Nexus walking funny, knickers sufficiently twisted up in knots ;)

I truly love knowing that I'm not the only one with twisted panties over this phone!

can't wait to watch the Jets kick butt tonight.

I finally went to a Verizon store to check out the RAZR. I was considering buying the RAZR and then exchanging it for a GNEx whenever it comes out. I have a T-Mo Nexus S and I am travelling this week to an area with poor Tmo coverage.
THe screen is gorgeous. I don't see the pixels unless I zoom in and look for them. THe greenish tint occurs if you decrease the brightness all the way down. I think everyone is nitpicking about this. No one zooms in all the way while reading and no one puts their brightness all the way down in normal everyday use.
THe phone is thin and looks great and unique. I don't think it is too wide. Again, I think this is something you get used to over time. After using it for a few weeks, you may not even notice it. I would have preferred if they added a few millimeters and put in a larger battery. It would have been an beautiful phone with the added benefit of unbeatable battery life.
The UI (Motorola's blur) is what I don't like. It is very fast and doesn't lag but it doesn't look aesthetically pleasing to me. I don't like the style of their widgets, the screen transition effects and some of the icons are downright ugly.
I don't think the RAZR has much over the Nexus S in terms of software. The only advantages I get over my current phone is sexy hardware and 4G speeds.
Which would not be enough because I value the software experience more than hardware or 4G speeds.
So I decided not to go through the hassle of buying the RAZR and exchanging it later for the GNex.

Well, if I ever come through Jersey and see some cutie with a Nexus walking funny, I'll know who you are :p :D

I'll be the one longingly looking at everyone's phone trying to locate someone to beam with.

Sadly, my little brother is defecting and talking about getting fruit. I told him I won't be able to talk to him anymore. But my friend's brother in law is coming over to the Android team so I guess it evens out.

Speaking of, I wonder if "do you wanna beam" will be the new line guys use to pick up girls once the Gnex comes out. That is almost as good as walking a puppy.

HAHAHA! I was thinking along those lines of trying to tell my wife I want to find someone to beam with... she might start packing bags

Good thing they didn't keep the rumored name "bump", as that's how the feature works, if I recall correctly.

"Do you wanna bump" seems so wrong.

There is an app on the market called BUMP, it does the same thing as Beam, but uses bluetooth instead of NFC.

i wish i had a friend named scotty and he had a nexus. then i could say to him.
"Beam me up, Scotty!"

:D

Hmmm Scotty might be a good name for my Gnex (yes I name my phones - OG was Alfred, laptop is Floyd and desktop is Steve. Oh and my car is Kevin ) lol

Doesn't look like there was much gained over the weekend? Anyone still doing the twitter giveaway game?

Hi JK! Welcome to this craziness. Good to see you around here!

What a fun thread! I too am waiting for the Galaxy Nexus for my next android phone. No 4g in my area, so I've been using the Inc2 (like) and the Droid 3 (dislike - sold yesterday). Gnex will be my first 4g phone, unfortunately no 4g in my area yet. My experience with the post GB Droid X, and the Droid 3 has pushed me away from Motorola until they can figure out how to make a smooth ui and a decent camera!

I can't wait..... But I guess I have to. Just like everyone else here. Now, if the Gnex is delayed , I might go for a rezound. Maybe, but probably not.

Bump sounds like a proposition. Beam sounds more futuristic and not as overtly sexual
