figures i laid the Inc to rest today around 4pm..... Loving the Rezound!! Woo Hoo!

Still though, will be interesting to see GB come through on my inc after all this... guess i will be leaving it charged and connected to wifi for now. really wanted to root it and back up my angry birds though :(

Why did you do that? Don't intuit for an update. Stay rooted and wait for a ROM version to come out. There will be a 99.9% stock ROM out hours after the first "FIX" otas get pushed, if not before. It will be faster and easier to get it that way AND you have all the flexibility of root.
Yeah, but i wanted to see it! Kinda like, well, you know

So root it and send the backup to your new phone.

Won't moving all the apps to the phone prevent losing some? I'm going to do this before & check back before I hit the go button
I had actually thought about moving them off my SD over the weekend to get ready to dump everything to give it to my fiancee while she waits for her upgrade from the Eris.
When I saw the system update announcement, I figured it was just some little update or something since there had been no talk of tis and everyone had sort of written it off. Oh well... its still fun to play with something "new"

Any problem with lag using Nils gingersense? I installed v2.1 on my incredible and it was terribly laggy, took forever to do anything. And this was after multiple wipes/factory resets to try and clear out all data on the phone. I guess I'm asking two things:

1) Was v2.1 terribly laggy for you?
2) if yes, does this fix the problem.

And a third question for good measure, can you take 720p video with v2.2? You were theoretically able to before but it was functionally useless.

It runs very smooth for me. Infact, I would say it runs smoother than stock. You can also take 720p video, but I've noticed that video recording on this phone has always been of low quality since the beggining. I think it's a hardware limitation of the camera.

Nice find! Looks like they actually covered all the problems...

I wonder if there is any significance in the second set of version numbers changing (.06 to .08).. instead of just incremental like the last update.. (.2 to .3)

Edit: http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/incredible_instructions.pdf

That page was also updated, only 8.6MB. So they must not have had to change much.

Must be a two stage update. I just got 605.3 which was 87mb. Guess I have to wait for a second update..

It's been so long that I can't remember.....are we suppose to move everything to the SD card before we download.....or visa versa.....???

Meh, forget all this Verizon Gingerbread catastrophe! Once you run Sense 3.5 on your Incredible, you can never go back to Sense 1. Root FTW !

I'll take your Incredible :D

On another note, how is the Rezound? Since I'm running Sense 3.5 on my Incredible, I don't feel like the Rezound would offer much for me, aside from a front camera and a higher resolution screen.

Interesting, my incredible is rooted, yet it says I'm downloading the update. Isn't root supposed to prevent updates from happening? In any case, I'm not sure if i want this...

Waited ten minutes at start up screen before a battery pull, then another 15 before it actually came on. First annoying thing to happen; while running Launched Pro, as I scroll threw my app drawer, every time I touch the screen and second time it jumps all the way back up to the top. I'm too used to LP to go back to sense. So annoyed!

That's what it's looking like... Just from quick skimming it looks like there are 2 updates floating around. The 87mb one that goes from 3.whatever (Froyo) to 4.06.605.3, and another that's ~7mb that goes from 4.06.605.2 to 4.06.605.3.

I think you're right and both of these are just to get everybody on the same page so they can push the same 4.08.605.2 to everybody.

What's pushing out looks like the same thing some people got before. So if that's the case, I think the best luck has been to move apps off the SD card and onto the phone before the update.

As long as you're on a stock rom you should still receive the notification regardless of root. However, with a custom recovery installed on the phone, the update should fail if you were to try to actually install it.

I see. Hmm, I'm wondering whether or not I should de-root in order to get this. From the sound of it, nothing has really improved from the last buggy version.

I was once looking forward to this update. Now I'm scared to do anything that will screw up the phone while I wait for the GNex. Additionally, I was thinking of finally rooting so I can backup everything before upgrading so... thanks anyway Verizon but I think I'm going to hold off on Gingerbread for now.

Don't...stay rooted and install it as a ROM. Especially since this IS the LAST buggy version, and presumably they are sending it out so they can then send the patch to fix the bugs.

Edit: the accuracy of this current version of Swype sucks.

What's rolling out right now is the buggy version. (At least going off software numbers) I don't think anyone has gotten the 4.08 that the pdf shows.

Edit: I was slow and beat by the reply above. :)

Yep, that's what I was thinking. I enjoy some of the root only apps, but I'm not sure a ROM would be worth the hassle for me. I'm really just waiting for ICS to be ported, shouldn't be too long after release, seeing as how the dev community for the incredible is still pretty strong.

It looks like 2.3.4 was pushed to my phone without me accepting.... I remember clicking later, and I looked at the update when I got home and it only gave me an option to download and reboot.

Not really a big deal since my rezound will be here tomorrow, but I just thought it was a little strange.
