***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Interesting... so Apple made a phone call to the FCC to make it release earlier?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but VZW did not submit this phone to the FCC... Samsung did. Maybe this is Google (yesterday) and Samsung (today) telling VZW to release it already?

I wouldn't read too much into that. I think it's just a matter of who the manufacturer is. Apple makes the iPhone so they submit it to the FCC, Samsung makes the GNex so they do the same. I don't think carriers submit any device to the FCC, though I could be wrong.

I brought a cushion with me. My legs are dangling. The breeze kicks up once in a while something fierce.

Are you on the Hancock building or Sears Tower?

I've been to the top of the Sears Tower a number of times.. quite windy up there, enough to feel the building sway :-)

I like to think of myself as the kind of guy who appreciates hard, cold facts and hates to indulge in speculation. There's just something hypnotic about the ups and downs in this thread, though. I can't stay away.

You have to hand it to Verizon. Intentional or not, they have executed a pretty thorough viral marketing campaign. We're all on the edge of our seats, tweeting and facebooking our impassioned pleas. It reminds me of reality television, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this, too, has been scripted all along.

That said, VZW signed up for the Nexus (and skipped the GSII) for what they must perceive as the prestige of the device. Do we really think that they would miss out on the first wave of releases?

I have to disagree with the marketing portion of your statement. The people in these forums tend to be power users, and in some cases die-hard Android fans. We know what the Nexus is and what the name entails, but your average user doesn't. Your average user calls any and all Android-equiped devices DROIDs. The Galaxy Nexus isn't even advertised on their front page and with the phone passing through the FCC, one would think the launch is in the foreseeable future (in phone years, lol).

Maybe Verizon has the phone set to auto-release once this thread hits 50,000 posts? :p

I was going to say we're not that important...but remember a few weeks ago when we apparently gossiped about Gnex too much and the whole board shut down for a few hours? And then we heard that VZW was pissed at our thread?

Coincidence?

I must break my silence.

I received a text from my sister. It reads as follows:

I give up trying to figure anything out anymore.

Ta ta.

Hey peeps, checking in.

Sad that no leaks of in-store ads being put up today, which confirms (to me) that the Verizon leak of a release on the 17th was FAKE.

Sad that OTD joined my persecutors and called me Hans Olo.

Sad that I've lost all faith in seeing the GNex this month.

Sad that my boss is here today.

Okay bye.

C'mon Hans, not all month.

Not hopeful for a 21st release now that the Casio phone matches up with that 21 (web only) leak.

Should I wait for the 'I Told You So' or we good for now?

Okay I feel like I need to post the darn FCC Confidentiality Request just so everyone can stop drawing poor conclusions from it.

See below. Disregard the "permanent" confidential list as you'll never see those released. Pay attention to the "short term" (defined by 180 days in this request) documents. NONE of those documents are among those released. Therefore these documents were released as a result of the approval only.

-They were not released "early" at the request of anybody.
-Today does not mark 180 days from anything related to the Galaxy Nexus.

Let's please lay the FCC discussion to rest at this point other than to say "Bravo, it passed. Too bad this tells us next to nothing about the release date."

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicationAttachment.html?id=1574404

Yeah, it looks like the tactic that companies are using to have a last minute FCC release are to submit all but a few of the required documents, then submit the remaining documents a day or two before the anticipated announcement. For example, the FCC filing for the LTE SGN had its final document submitted yesterday. If you go back to that iPhone filing, you'll see it had some documents submitted two days prior to the iPhone 4S announcement.

You're definitely right though, the confidentiality request is for OTHER things that are NOT showing up on the website. Some are temporary(user manual, pictures of device), and some are permanent(detailed specifications and design schematics).

If anything, perhaps the FCC "jumped the gun" and VZW and/or Samsung thought they would take longer than 12-24 hours to process the final document that was submitted yesterday, and they were planning some kind of announcement today.

Dang, leave for a meeting for 2 hours and this thread blows up over the phone passing through FCC.

I think I saw a question about does 3.7V and 1000mA have any correlation...the answer to that is no.

Still not convinced we'll see this phone this week or next.

I'm always irritated when people say this. Yes, the people that make up this board itself is quite small compared to Verizon's total customer base. But the thing is, it's not just us. We're just the tip of the iceberg.
A good 1 in 10 of my facebook friends have at least heard of the Galaxy Nexus (and not because of me, I might add). This phone is becoming mainstream. Sure, we're the most frenzied about it, but we're not the only ones who'll buy it.

And I don't think I have a particularly nerdy group of friends either

Ask them why the Hell they don't just tell us a date for phones like Apples does?

When you make minor changes to an existing phone without much cutting edge technology, it's easier to get that product through testing and to the market quicker.

Not to say the nexus is going to be lightyears better than the Iphone in terms of speed, but the nexus prime is a much bigger jump/revision over any previous android phone than we have seen before.

However, Verizon is the same with all of their phones, even the mid or lower range ones, so I'm not sure it makes a difference with them.

Pix of your sister or it didn't happen!!

lol

O.O

It all makes sense. IT ALL MAKES SENSE.
Verizon wants to sell this phone, but they don't want to spend money on marketing. So what do they do? They use us. Our tweets and facebook messages and forum posts and blog posts are building the hype. We are their pawns
This is like Soylent Green level revelation right here.

/starts laughing hysterically

I think I've finally cracked. I'm no longer sane. That much is clear. :(

It would actually be a genius tactic. With the hype and shortage rumors surrounding this device, they're probably going to have a HUGE wave of people placing their orders immediately because they're afraid they're going to run out of them. ;)

Good afternoon everyone. Long time lurker finally entering the light.

I have loved following this thread for the last two months. Thanks to the Mods for their great work keeping us all sane. as if that is possible.

I have silently fist pumped the highs and shed some tears over the lows. My wife thinks I am nuts. She may be right. I mean it is only a phone.

I have been suffering with a 2 year old droid eris that only reboots two or three times a day and can't hardly play my tunes when I'm at the gym. I'm sorry but I need tunes at the gym.

If the Nexus isn't released by this Friday I'm afraid that I will have to go the way of the Rezound short term rental program. Might not be too bad since the Vigor(Rezound) was my initial choice until I found (insert sounds of harps playing) "the Nexus".

Thanks and I will try to share my thoughts when warranted.

Good grief!
Is that the magnum xl 2000? Love that classic coaster!!!

Oh, the emotional roller coaster. And I just looked over and realized I'm about to turn 500 posts! A small milestone but cool with me nonetheless. For someone who mainly lurks, I'm proud of my accomplishment and the only thing cooler would be to be typing my 500th post from my new SGN!!! Come on, BABY!!!

Question about previous Nexus releases (original and Nexus S). Was there this much lack of information leading up to the release? Was it such a roller coaster ride, or was it more straight forward with a real release date and proper communication from the wireless carrier(s)? We all know this is just the typical Verizon MO, but is it being compounded by the fact that this is a Nexus release or is this just SOP for Verizon and a typical hush-hush release?

Hans if you do end up leaving I will keep everyone up to date with text from your sister.
Text from Hans sister
-- Quit texting me you weirdo. I don't even know who you are. How you get my number stalker

j/k thanks Hans for the info
Disclaimer I do not really know Hans or his sister. The only affiliation I have with Hans is that I want the same phone as him!
