***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

What's up everyone. I've been following along for a while now and figured I would join the fun.

I haven't been this excited about a phone since the original Droid. I was able to get my hands on it a day early thanks to a local Walmart and I can still remember how exciting that was.

I'm even more excited for the Nexus now that I just found out my market gets 4G turned on tomorrow! Perfect timing.

This is the Galaxy Nexus pre-release thread.

Logic with supporting facts, like a tuxedo with a nice tie at a pool party, is completely optional here.
Yep, that's our Han!

I thought that Verizon makes money off of contracts, both new and renewed. If that's the case, then there wouldn't be a problem releasing the GNex now because if Verizon makes money off the contract, it doesn't matter which phone people purchase.

I think Verizon is just being sticklers with the testing, hoping Google will cave and allow bloat on the phone to get it released sooner rather than later.

I think there's zero chance Google would allow any Verizon-lucrative crapware, which is plenty of reason for VZW to push the RAZR instead. Besides that, VZW may still be unhappy w/Google's insistence on bundling Google Wallet, which competes w/their own ISIS.

Actually I have had other issues in the past with them where they've totally d-bagged me for charges I never even incurred. But that's neither here nor there. Companies should always look out for their customers whenever possible. That generates a ton of good will and translates into better profits down the line.

I don't understand why it's so unreasonable to expect solid customer service and public relations skills from a company you're doing business with. The whole world will be getting this device before they will, and they couldn't care less.

RAZR sales are abysmal for a reason. Looking at its specs, they shouldn't by abysmal; it's a very solid phone. I can only think that SGN frenzy is a part of that. But they don't care what their customers want.

And I'll never forget that they released the garbage Bionic (knowing it was garbage, according to the Love Tunnel), with the full realization that a million people were going to feel totally screwed over with the RAZR coming out 8 weeks later, and they did it anyway, selling it at the highest price point they could.

They're immoral. I'm sorry if that offends the Verizon lovers in here, but they are. Now, are they the most evil company in the world? No. Do I hate them as much as the Penn State leadership? No. But I still dislike them very, very much, and I don't get why I'm being criticized for that.

No criticism coming form this guy i agree with you 100% and i get the same feelings you do. Verizon doesn't care about their customers they have the best network and they abuse that fact to the best of their ability

1 "o" in lose. sorry, and thank you.

Yeah their service blows, idk if i'd really leave vzw...but i want this phone already

Thanks for pointing that out. Darn South Dakota accent. I spell words the way I say them in real life and all my "o" and we like to drag on our "o" and "a" lol :p

Another husband passing the old phone to "the wife". Doesn't she deserve a Nexus, too, for everything she does for you?

LOL. I told mine I was going to get 2 Nexus' for us, she said no  Is perferctly happy with her non-rooted Thunderbolt.

I just talked to my geometry student from last year...

(1) His dad has no idea if this event has anything to do with the nexus, he said that he is the head of one of their computer based development groups here, so he isn't in the loop for all that stuff.

(2) I asked him who his dad's service provider was and he said Verizon...He said his dad's nexus was blazing fast....battery power was good also. His quote, "It's ridiculous". i also ask him if it had the 4G LTE logo on the back and he said yes. Didin't get anything other than that, but it was worth a shot.

And something I thought of last night while trying to figure this whole fiasco out, just follow me here...

Is it possible that VZW was given the US exclusive for, let's say 30 days and that the 11/3 date was in fact meant to be the original release date? Then along came deals with the razr and rezound and vzw thought it couldn't pass up given their relationship with moto and htc and it would be in their best interests to lose some of its exclusivity period rather than have to try to sell people on devices using the "old" version of android instead of the new ICS?? Seems like this is by far the most likely reason(in some variant) that we sit where we currently sit

Welcome to the ride! Hold on tight and enjoy!!!

Not criticizing you at all... but your situation is EXACTLY what VZW is delaying the GN launch for.

Oh none taken. I had to grab a something ASAP, I had Sprint and did not receive any service at my new office building, and with a wife and children I need cell service at any cost. So I knew in the summer I was jumping to Verizon, because their service works in my bldg, but I wanted the SGS2 but then Verizon decided to not get this phone, so I stuck with Sprint (HTC Evo) as long as possible before a viable option 4g phone (RAZR) hit. Although the ReZound looks great, I'm sick of Sense and HTC after almost 2years w/ EVO, and never owned a MOTO so hence my choice of RAZR. But I have 30 days from 11-11 to return the RAZR for the GNEX (if it ever hits) so it's a win - win situation for me. Finally cell service at work (Verizon) and either a great RAZR or GNEX to hold me for 2years..

Well guys, I caved in and bought a RAZR last night.
EDIT: And I had the worst Customer Service experience EVER. WOW. It was horrible.

Well, Don't worry, we will take you back into the Avant-Garde fold if you do the refund. Would be sweet revenge for the sorry customer service.

Pumpple Cake? 1800 calories for a slice that can feed 4 people??? Geeezzz....

But if we get them to eat it they can't move and then we can raid their files for a date!!!

Thanks for the intel you did bring us!!

i recall one guy saying ( a few hundred pages back ) how he accidentally went over his minutes and had a $300 bill or $300 over or something and they said OHhhhh sir, it's ok. We're sorry about the inconvenience or something or other and squashed it.

yeah vzw never did that for me when i went over my minutes twice and paid over $1500 in about a months time.

but they have me. i left sprint 11 years ago for the best service. i was wondering if we all got on ledges... do you think they'd release it..if that were our only demand.

I'll come down..when i can have a 4gLTE Galaxy Nexus in my hands plzthnx.

I just can't see Verizon delaying or just failing to announce the release date to see another phone sell.

You have to consider that everyday that any phone that is ready for market is not released a company risks the chance of losing customers to a competitor.

Market share is of importance to Verizon as well profit. The more phones a company has in the market the greater their market share will be by appealing to more customers.

I don't think they are delaying it, I just think that this was all part of the marketing plan. To release anything requires mega money to research potential sales. With my knowledge of marketing and advertising (my degree) it makes the most sense to release a product when demand will be high, ie holidays.

Who knows... I guess there could be a million reasons or maybe just one reason. By any means... I want the damn phone!!

Pffft.

Site rules say no picking on spelling or grammar - so no worries - you know. :)

Besides, without that rule, I'd be toast! :D

Anyway - noebuty sweet nooting aboat sppeled ar grammir. ;)

Chairs, tanks a millions!

that's why i threw in the sorry, and thank you. didn't want to sound like i was picking. i was more teaching/coaching. ;D

A kid doesn't pay his parents and expect good customer service/PR skills. Everything he gets is a gift so yeah, crying about not getting a present makes him a spoiled brat.

Hell, if Verizon wants to give me free service for the next 2 years, I'll buy a RAZR right now.

And I said I was thinking about going unsubsidized, but it doesn't really add up financially, after thinking about it.

Exactly my point. Release it in mid-January for all I care. JUST TELL ME.

For me it's NOT just this. I hate on Verizon and really MOST cellular providers any chance I get. They are all poorly run and horribly marketed companies that claim to be mostly service providers while always trying to sell their customers all sorts of nonsense that has nothing to do with the paid services they really want and need resulting in all sorts of waste that results in a much more costly service than it needs to be.

You subsidy vs not thing is my primary problem with all of the setup here in the USA. I would rather get a nice discounted service cost, but get all devices and support for them from someone other than my service provider. If I knew a problem is caused by the network, ONLY then would I ask for service from Verizon. Pretty sure operating this way would be SIGNIFICANTLY less costly and save me further money's. The device manufacturers are already setup to support/service devices anyhow also. It would be much nicer to have several option to buy devices from with NONE of them having to make any arrangements with VZW to sell the devices.

I think things will slowly evolve into this direction as customers start to become more informed about all this stuff and just through general maturation of the whole cellular thing. It's still only about 15 years old and much less from the point it became a much more data centered service. As more start to understand what they are paying for I think they will slowly demand that and only that from the network providers and force them to offer access to their networks only as a value option.

Pay for some amount of data or shared speed and then put as many devices on that as you want for some price. That's what I want.

New plan: Food Bribery. Let's send them Pumpple.
Pie Cake -- Meet the Pumpple Cake ... and All 1,800 of Its Calories

Oh, good. We weren't sure exactly how we were going to gain those 10 holiday pounds this year, and we hate uncertainty. It's a good thing we found out about the pumpple cake.

Despite its suggestive-sounding name, the pumpple cake will not give you lip sores, just a wicked case of the night bloats. Each slice packs 1,800 calories, (although, to be fair, you're supposed to share it with three other people). At the same time, who shares a slice of cake with anyone? We prefer wielding a steak knife and guarding ours suspiciously.

The pumpple cake is pumpkin pie and apple pie baked into chocolate and vanilla cake, respectively. The whole thing is then stuck together with a metric butt-ton of buttercream frosting. You know, because when you're eating pies baked into cake you gotta have some buttercream.

The pumpple cake is made by the Flying Monkey Patisserie in Philadelphia, and although we've never tried their pumpple cake, we can tell you their pecan bars and brownies are freakin' amazing. If you live in the area you can order a pumpple cake with 72 hours' advance notice, but be warned: The whole thing weighs 15 pounds and will make you feel very guilty the next day.

I saw that cake/pie on some FoodTV show, thy showed the making of it. Looked pretty decandent!
