Help 4G ready? or anything better than 3G ready???

Freestone

Apologies if this has been asked before, but with o2 trialing 4G speeds in London, and me only 2 months into a 24 month contract, is my Samsung Galaxy S2 4G ready, I pressume 4G will be rolled out eventually this time next year in some parts of the UK(i.e. major cities, i'm in Leeds)

I'm going to be a bit pi**** off if my phone doesn't support it, as I will probably be halfway atleast into my contract, and won't get these speeds.

Also, does anyone know when 2.3.4 will be released in the UK on o2? I'm wanting to root the phone, but would rather have 2.3.4 as a stock before I do it(yes I realise I can put it on when it's been rooted anyway), plus, the first signs of 2.3.4 means ICS rollout won't be too far away in 2012, I guess.

The SGS2 is capable of H+ which is up to 21Mbps. I believe O2 is trailing LTE, unfortunately UK SGS2 does not support LTE.
You can upgrade to 2.3.5 without rooting. Check my sig for a guide.

That's kinda s*** that it doesn't support LTE, but the actual phone in other countries does, means i'm probably going to ditch the GS2 for a GS3(if that's LTE ready...if not looks like i'm in the stuck).

Yeah, i've read that apparently Samsung Kies allows you to update the firmware now, haven't tried as thought all updates were done over the air on Android. I'd try at work, but we have some stupid a** bitlocker drive which makes me re-format to write to it, so will just wait till I get home.

There are only a few cities who have LTE so it is kinda a waste of money if your network does not support it. I will wait till LTE gets here and THEN get the latest LTE phone

IF LTE gets here. As the networks haven't yet been able to bid for 4G spectrum nobody knows wth is going to happen. Plus WiMax is still in contention for the gig too.

Yep, I am not holding my breath for LTE in Jacksonville, FL. We are flying at H+ or 3.5G on AT&T. The SG2 likes it and works well enough for me.

Majors jumps in speed and through-put all come at a snails pace.

2.3.5 is now available through Kies for O2 branded handsets (as of yesterday morning). I updated last night and it seems ok so far (still reinstalling apps etc as I stupidly decided to do a factory reset and start again from scratch before updating).

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments, yeah I just think if the tech is there, but can't be used, it should still be included, I would of rather paid about

An LTE-enabled handset will be useless if WiMax becomes the predominant 4G standard. At this early stage in the game it's pointless expense to include either for a market that hasn't even allocated 4G spectrum.
