Help Gingerbread/OTA issues Thread

Anyone else having this issue. Email and contacts seem to be ok but my Calendar now has a ! when trying to sync. I have read other phones are having the same issue.

I'm in the same situation with the second update. There wasn't enough space to install it, so I cleared some up (even though I don't have many apps installed) only to never recieve the update again. I tried resetting the phone, both normally and by pulling the battery and no luck. Going to the system update menu option is still saying my system is up to date but my software version is 4.06.605.3, not the .2 that's on the VZW site. If anyone has any solution for this problem, I'd really like to know

I did this and it worked to get the second update...

Go to menu>settings>set date/time. Uncheck automatic
Then set the date forward 1 month.....

go back to menu>settings>about phone and check system settings.
(you might have to do this part several times).

This downloaded the second update for me.

Everything is here in the threads....

Hightech,

Have you seen anyone on the boards who used the date trick for this update and it worked? Seems everyone like Sharon get prompted for the update but it does not go through. You may not want to try that trick right now.

Same issue here, tried to install update...said "low memory"....any solution how to get the update again?? Memory should be fine...I think. Just need to update for 4.08 again.

Any help is appreciated.

Do the clear cache thing.......then change the date forward 1 month.....after unchecking the autoupdate feature......

Just for the heck of it...delete some of the non essential apps.....then check for system updates again.....

YUP....it worked for me.....you may have to check for system updates several times in succession.....but it worked for me.

Same here....Just wondering...any way to be sure your memory will be ok, or do you just have to clear cache's, delete apps etc?

Is anyone who has gotten both the GB updates this week, having any issues with their WIFI not connecting? I had this exact same problem back when the phone was running Eclair 2.1. I then and now, have to reboot the phone to get the WIFI radio working again.

Well.....deleted much and got new update, and install does nothing, IE does not finish, when screen times out, I check and nothing is going on....seems like the screen time out kills the installation. A little confused. Also have fast boot off. Any thoughts out there? I just disabled my widget locker timeout and now set phone to 30 min...trying the install again.

I updated my OS on my Incredible earlier in the week, and a few days later, it told me I had 1 additional system upgrade to do. That gave me an error saying I didn't have enough internal phone storage. I moved a handful of the bigger apps to the SD card, and still got the message. So today I moved ALL apps that I COULD move to the SD card, and cleared data history from as much as I wanted without resetting too much stuff. (I made that mistake once by removing data from the settings history.)

So one of the data files that I cleared, was the "Contacts Storage" (version2.3.4) because it was holding down a good 30MB of space. This removed all of the contact photos that I had put into my google address book. When I go to the google contact card the photo is still there in the phone, but it's not showing up.

Any thoughts?

(PS: My battery life totally sucks after this update - my phone was dead before noon the 1st day after the update, usually I'd never get the orange warning battery until close to bed time.)

This process worked for me and others......if it doesn't work the first time....do it again...

Sad to tell you but a factory reset will fix your issues. Just back up as much as you can to the "cloud" or to a pc, "sms backup" will backup your texts.

Hightech, that link and instructions did it on the first try!!! TY!

Only thing is that I still have to fix the missing apps that were on my SD disk. Thought this update fixed that....alas no.

I had a similar problem, and thought it was my phone, because my laptop connected to the wifi just fine...but then my wireless printer stopped working too. It was weird because my laptop still connected so I didn't think it could be the router, but the only thing that fixed it was pulling the power cord to force my router to reset. After that, I was able to get both the printer and my phone to reconnect to wifi. So I guess what I am saying is that it is possible that it is just a coincidence, and maybe resetting your router will do the trick. I would ask the phone to "forget" that connection, reset the router, and then set up the wifi connection again and see if that does the trick.

After the Gingerbread update, my Incredible does not recognize my SD Card at all. It just says unavailable. I've put my card in other phones, it works. I've put other cards in my phone and they work. What the hell happened?:confused:

My sd card is also "not accessible"

Did the reformat solve your problem?

Greetings all,

After I got my official Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update on my Incredible I noticed that it does not fully shutdown and start up like it used to. It boots up in about 4 seconds and shuts down in 2 seconds. Previously it took 5 times that long. After I turn it on, I can go on the internet and view the last page I was viewing, and in the past it went to my homepage (google) and currently I can also view my other internet windows I previously had open prior to shutting it down after I turn it on. I believe this problem of not fully shutting down is messing with the phone, it is acting quirky and as a result I am burning though my extended battery in 3/4 of a day, in the past it would last two days.

It almost seems like the phone is going into hibernation mode and not fully shutting down and rebooting correctly. On restarts sometimes I can see my home page from the previous night at the time when I shut it down, this flashes about one second after I turn it on. Sometimes the phone loads the red page that has all the specifications of the phone and sometimes it doesn't, ditto for the droid announcement voice. I tried the battery pull and the new restart function to no avail. I really don't want to do a factory reset, but this update is killing my battery. Can an update be rolled back or is there anything else I can try? Phone is not rooted.

TIA

I just updated from Froyo to Gingerbread, 11-17-2011 - Build Number 4.08.605.2 - not 4.06 which I think was the original GB update.

Your experience is what was happening with my Dinc 2.3.4 Update also. It was pretty frustrating after:

a) plugging in my phone with the original charger, then;
b) turning my phone off to charge o/n, then;
c) waking up 8 hours later to see the phone only charged to 78%, then;
d) charging it more on my way to work to try to get a 100% charge, then;
e) after 3 hours of the phone mostly sitting in my pocket, the battery is dead.

So...today I spend my morning combing through the forums and see this:

There is definitely a 'fastboot' option somewhere in the settings that you will need to turn off to keep it from doing this...

fwiw i finally shut my phone done last night and my up time was over 500 hours (something like 22 days)

NightAngel, thanks! Okay, so I find my FAST BOOT option (thank you mikered30 for pointing me in the right direction on the Dinc) and I too find my "FAST BOOT" option is checked, huh? And, yes, my boot up and shut down has been acting strange since I did update from Froyo. So I uncheck.

It seems to be working fine now. I will update with more news to see if the situation goes back to good.

Thanks Guys!

EDIT: I forgot to add after turning my phone off to charge o/n, I turned it on the next morning and my battery stats (Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Battery), says the Up time was 17 hours! This is right after I turned the Dinc on. Soo...Hopefully with the Fast Boot Unchecked all will remain good tomorrow.

Like many others, I had the "low space" issue upon the first Gingerbread OTA update (4.06), and thanks to a /cache clear and fiddling with the date, I was able to successfully install the second update (4.08).

I'm now having an issue with Facebook for HTC Sense, and my contacts aren't syncing. I tried re-syncing and now get a "service is currently unavailable" error. There were some reports of this after the Froyo update last year, and the workaround was to fiddle with the employer city/state information. That didn't work, so I reluctantly resorted to a factory reset, and that didn't fix it either. Note this has nothing to do with the official Facebook app, and clearing cache and data for both the official and the Sense Facebook apps doesn't change anything.

Is anyone else having this issue, or have any ideas for how to fix it?

Apparently, any app that lets you toggle gps on and off now also opens the location settings.

some other phones with GB have this issue, but it sounds like they can just use the manufacturer's toggle widget.

But ive tried using the GPS toggle settings widget, and the GPS button on the Power Control widget - they do work, and even though they dont open the location settings, they still pop up the little GPS disclaimer .

anybody know of a way to toggle gps without dealing with disclaimers and menus? i used to use widgetsoid, but that opens the menu since the OTA.

  1. Updated to 2.3.4 yesterday successfully
  2. notified of update to 4.08.605.2 today
  3. first attempt, said not enough space
  4. did the date switch trick to get the update again
  5. now it downloads, I press install and reboot
  6. it does the countdown and sits there, not rebooting
any advice?

Disclaimer: I copied this solution from another forum. It is not my own. I followed the steps and was able to move forward and install the newest update. I was in the same boat as you.

Here is the fix for those of you still stuck in limbo between the Gingerbread Rollout and the patch, and have not gotten another OTA announcement again.

Clear borked upload from cache
1.Boot into recovery

My sister's phone (obviously non-rooted) received an update in the last week or so for 2.3.4, and now the option to clear data and cache for dialer storage is greyed out. Her dialer storage is now over 70 MBs, and she doesn't want to do a factory reset.

Any ideas? Similar problems?

Same here. After a long series of failed updates, I finally got to 4.08, only to find the GPS pop-up annoyance is still present. Ugh, it bugs the crap out of me, and ruins the automatic tasks I have set up. I get it! I clicked never warn, and I am fine with the disclaimer. Let me use my (non-rooted) phone the way I have it set up. Thanks Verizon, HTC, et al.

I realize iOS has its own issues, but the saga of failed updates, insider tricks to get it working, battery drain, and now these bugs has me seriously considering making The Switch when my contract is up...
