I rooted but now what???

I rooted my s2 last week and wanted to flash a 2.3.5 firmware. My question is, I my phone came with the KG2 firmware installed and then I rooted my phone using the corresponding CF file OXA for KG2 firmware. But now I want to update to a newer firmware but there is no firmware for 2.3.5 KG2.

If I was to flash my stock kernel (for Virgin mobile Canada), would I be able to download any firmware like KI4(which I think is one of the newer ones) and then flash the corresponding CF file? Or can I just flash a newer firmware not corresponding to the insecure kernel i have (KJ2) and then flash the corresponding kernel? Also could you tell me which firmware is the newer and most used firmware for 2.3.5 or 2.3.4.

Also I tried to get rid of the yellow triangle by flashing my stock kernel and putting the cf root for KG2 zimage file on my phone. But when I flashed the zimage file using CVM after I had flashed back to my stock kernel it didn't work. I also seemed to lose root when I flashed to my stock firmware as titanium backup acted weird (couldn't freeze apps as it would never stop the loading circle sign) and CVM didn't seem to have full functionality.

That should work fine. Flash the firmware with Odin, wait for it to reboot then shutdown, boot back into download mode and flash the kernel.

Also could you tell me which firmware is the newer and most used firmware for 2.3.5 or 2.3.4.

I'd suggest the KJ4 "Frankenstein" package and recommended kernel at the bottom of page 3 here, and also flash the Canada Bell/Virgin BMCKG2 CSC found further down. That's probably the same as your current one and should ensure that your localisation is okay.

Strange, it's never failed whenever I've done it. Hopefully this was a one-off 'glitch', as you did everything correctly. You did flash the zImage immediately on rebooting after flashing the stock kernel?

Thank you for your answer. And yes I did flash the flash the zImage after rebooting. I'll try again as it probably was a one-off glitch like you said. I don't see any KJ4 Frankenstein firmware. I only see three CSC file's for KJ4 on page 3 (am I correct in assuming I'd use the Orange UK csc). Also where is it's kernel located. Does the csc come with the firmware and kernel together?

Also why do you suggest the KJ4. I've heard KI4 is pretty good as it is pretty new.

Ignore the version string and go by the carrier name (Canada Bell/Virgin).

The link to the stock kernel is directly underneath the link to the firmware download. Note the password needed to open the archive!

KJ3 is newer though.

Mainly to ensure that your carrier's APNs are correctly setup for data connectivity. It may not be required.... try without and at least you've got the CSC file if needed.

You can flash firmware and CSC simultaneously in Odin, but the kernel has to be flashed separately afterwards. There's a handy guide on page #1 of the firmware thread.

Oh one more thing. when I update firmware should I factory reset my phone and would that keep root still? I have Titanium backup but I'm unsure whether i should restore apps +data and system setting or just apps and data.

No need to factory reset for updating kernals. It wont hurt but you dont need to . Depending on how deep you wanna get you can always use [SCRIPT]Ultimate Kernel Cleaning Script - 4.0 [MIUI/CM7 and SAMSUNG] [13.11.11] - xda-developers before updating a new kernal.

Full wipes are generally good practice when installing new Custom ROMs.

Also try and avoid Titanium back up for anything than backing up or freezing individual apps. Do a system backup through CWM recovery or manager.
