Are those apps installed to the SD card? All of my icons for the apps in my phones memory show up instantly, however the ones installed to the SD card sometimes take a couple/few seconds to show up.

No. Two apps where this happens frequently, pretty much every morning, are facebook and the google news app. I don't believe you even have the option of installing them on the SD card.

It also happens if I open up the Gallery app.

I am a programmer (I actually do Android, iOS, and WP7 development as my job), and based on my experience, I am guessing it has to do with the java garbage collector. The OG Droid only has 256MB of RAM.

That is part of the reason I said that this shouldn't be happening on a phone with a 1.2ghz procressor and 1Gb of RAM. On a phone with a 500mhz processor with 256MB of RAM? Sure. But with a phone this powerful, it is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

I understand the concerns regarding live wallpapers and GPU performance; however, I highly doubt the IP4S is a legitimate alternative due to your disappointment.

Have you seen how well the iPhone handles live wallpapers whilst also rendering 3-dimensional homescreens?

I am just getting pissed off about this whole thing....I am leaving and taking a break for awhile. I hope I don't see anyone that works at verizon at lunch I might just deck them in the face

1) Thanks for all the video love guys, I did make it especially for you :D

2) What's this about lag on the homescreen with live wallpapers? Almost ever demo we've seen with the Nexus is with that light bluish live wallpaper and it's been perfect. I'm slightly skeptical of the lag reports, but obviously we'll have to wait until we get the thing in our paws.

Thanks for the good giggles

And the live wallpaper issue has only been reported on 1 or 2 wallpapers not all live so no big deal.

You can't you order a phone after your 2 years are up with NE2 and unlimited data?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NE2 is only a discounted price and mabey a few loyalty bucks. Its not a free phone like in the old days. Plus its a start of a new contract. I dont see it as much different than my renewing in Dec when my renew date is in June and my early date is Feb2 2012.. I'm still going to pay 299 or what ever, just change my contract date.

I just wish it was coming out for another carrier at this point. I'm not certain (there's no way to be certain), but at this point it seems there's only one reason we haven't seen the phone in the US or at least a release date is because of the carrier.

Any other phone company would've given us a release date by this point.

Go ahead and tell me "Verizon said before the end of the year". I don't care. At this point, Verizon can go suck on a rock.

man, this is just a swift kick where it hurts most

Galaxy Nexus Verizon still lacks a release date | Technology News at PopHerald.com

FTA
"United States may be the last country that will get the Galaxy Nexus this year."

I am really really tired of being without a functioning phone.

Verizon announced they will be releasing the Galaxy Nexus in the Island Republic of Nauru. While they currently have minor electrical and no cellular phone grid, they are hoping to jump start the counties economy. The nearly 10,000 citizens of this boat only accessible island have no idea of the impact of such a release, but it certainly will put a debt in the 95% unemployment rate.

Is rock a euphemism for something else?!

LMFAO! VZW took it off their wall!

I'm putting it back up on their wall. Seriously, I could care less about the phone being released in December (I leave to India in two days and return on Dec. 11th) but I really despise it when businesses aren't courteous to the masses. It seems that every time someone emails a higher up they provide us with an excellent, albeit rehearsed, response.

Just come out on Twitter and explain that there are issues with the phone. You can even be vague about what the issue is! Just say SOMETHING! The fact that NOBODY is saying anything when the US public sees the phone being released everywhere just makes you look terrible.

So to the people that are defending Verizon by saying "don't berate them because the phone is still buggy/requires more testing/is still being reviewed/has a volume problem/still smells/shows racist tendencies" please understand that people don't CARE what the issue is.

Not sure who said it but it's the LACK OF COMMUNICATION that's irritating.

And for that, ladies and gentlemen, I will post Roosevelt's video on their facebook.

What the fudge? So you still can’t effectively use live wallpapers? On a dual core, bloatless, heavy UI-less phone?

That’s ridiculous.

Totally. I don't have that problem on dual core and I'm running Sense.

I suspect that maybe those particular wallpapers are hosed somehow - the XDA thread did say that one wallpaper lacked the problem, others had it.

HD dimensions not correct, or one of those evil live wallpapers that's really phoning home or something similarly wrong?

Just two cents, ymmv.

Goooooooooood morning, Nexaholics!

I feel like maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic... perhaps I should cut back on that haha.

Optimism is a good thing.

Just as long as the optimisim is clearly recognizable as speculative if indeed it is speculation. I've been faked out by a couple of your posts being overly optimistic and perceived (by me) as fact.

My psyche can't take drive-by optimism. :)

Guys, regarding the home screen lag, I think you are all getting caught up on the part about the live wallpapers.

In my opinion, that isn't the issue (I don't use live wall papers). However, the person in the xda thread asked two questions: [Q] Anyone Noticed Home Screen Lag? - xda-developers

Q1. Has anyone experienced clicking the Home button from another app or from the app drawer and seeing just the wallpaper for a few moments until the home screen widgets, folder and shortcuts are redrawn?

Q2. Also, Has anyone noticed lag when scrolling between home screens if a Live Wallpaper is used? I notice some live wallpapers make scrolling worse than some others.

Q1 does not mention live wallpapers. It happens on my OG Droid and is terribly annoying. I would expect that this would be fixed by now.

People are reporting that Q1 is still happening on the Nexus.

I can easily replicate this on my OG Droid:
  1. Open up facebook
  2. Hit the home button and open up the Gallery app
  3. View a few pictures
  4. Hit the home button
  5. My home screen wallpaper appears instantly, but my icons take 3-5 seconds to show up. If my phone is being particularly slow, it takes around 7-10 seconds.

Really, 3 to 5 seconds? I have the same phone and it takes up to 15 to 20 seconds for me.

Most of my apps (only five are not) that I can move are on my SD card, but that is because I only have 30 MB free on the phone app space.

Have you two tried the V6Supercharger script and running Swapper2 from the market? These two things made my OG Droid fly running LauncherPro. I still have issues with live wallpapers but at least I can stand the wait for the GNex now.

[Script][U9 RC3.2!] -=V6 SuperCharger=- Die-Hard BulletProof HTK Launchers, 3G & KAK! - xda-developers

SDMaid from the market will help clear up some memory also. It scans your phone for duplicate files, etc. and allows you to erase them.

Verizon is fast approaching the cutoff date for which I will buy this phone. I'm considering not buying it out of spite now. I'll be danged if I purchase a phone 2 months after it was announced. You're pushing the limits of a phone's ability to last through a contract with the pace technology is increasing if you release it 3 months after announcing it.
