Root The road to Android ICS 4.0 on the Triumph

Yeah, it should be possible. If the panel can register 2 simultaneous inputs, I don't see why it couldn't pick up 3-10 multi-touch. Do I want to add 3-10 MT? No. I don't have any use for that. The driver is available for anyone to modified though.

ok thats good news! :D and thanks for the reply. would that be something you would be able modify and add to cm7 or miui?

Nice job Isaac! I'm trying to port the ICS ROM from the Nexus S 4G CDMA and the Thunderbolt. I was wondering if you knew of a way to logcat while the device is booting. It bootloops and I was trying to figure out a way to log what is going wrong while the device is booting. I can't logcat on my computer. It sits at "waiting for device".

It NEEDS to be fixed, when playing games that involve running and attacking, controls stick. That shouldn't happen, at all, very annoying.

Also Mobster, being able to add more input doesn't help performance(could actually hurt it when trying actually trying to perform it).

so we wont be seeing "your port of ICS" i assume?? i coulda sworn you said u had one on page 1..just curious..maybe YOU could fix the touchscreen driver

oops forgot to add a question..what the heck can you use a touchscreen with 5-10 inputs for?! i mean the screen is only so large..3 of my huge fingers is all i could fit..but thats 1 more finger than i know what to do with anyway!! im just curious what would be improved my having 3-5 finger input versus just 2?

If it "needs" to be fixed, then, by all means, fix it. Do I care about the issue? No. Does multi-touch "work" currently? Yes.

This is not a high priority issue. Maybe some time later I'll look at it, but the way our driver handles multiple contacts makes fixing it more difficult than it should be.

I wish people would stop dictating what needs and doesn't need to be done..and just let the man with the knowledge do what hes gonna do! (especially if you act like you can code..it looks kinda bad trying to dictate to the person with real knowledge)

ps: sorry if this compliment bothers anyone..i just think there is one or two posers in here that arent helping..just dictating..and its rather annoying to see cause I dont wanna see our developer get chased away by someone acting like they know more than they really do

I doubt Austrie is a poser. Sure, I would like for him to make his own ROM where he can prioritize what he wants to, but no need you call him a poser.

No, it's true. Name calling isn't necessary. (Fastest way to start a fight on a thread. Fastest way to get this thread shut down; we don't want that.)

However, watson540 has a point. It's really a "put-up-or-shut-up" situation. If you're not going to contribute, you're not in a position to be deciding what should or shouldn't be a priority. Requesting something is one thing, but telling me (or others) what to do is another. I'm working for free here and if it starts feeling like a job, I'm out of here.

In any case, I've started re-writing the driver. The way it handles multi-touch contact doesn't leave much room for adding axis inversion (the locking on the axis problem). If I can somewhat "modularize" the driver, it'll make it a hell of a lot easier to fix the problem.

EDIT: I should mention that we don't have the axis inversion problem. There isn't anything that needs to be fixed. However, I did clean up the driver to make it easier to fix should any other problems arise.

Great points there Isaac. Let's keep from attacking anyone here, and be civil. We don't need arguments and attacks towards anyone. Be constructive.

Apart from that, all the work you have done is available to anyone who wants to mess with it more themselves. Isaac has stated many times he is going to do what he wants for himself and is more than willing to share that with the rest of us, and will ignore demands/requests he isn't interested in. If you don't think that is enough feel free to do some coding and dirty work yourself. The information to do any of this is available online, just search for it yourself (Google is your friend!). I am sure there are plenty of books you can check out from your local library as well.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and be thankful this community is as good as it is. I am definitely glad that we have the great people here that we do. In the words of Abraham Lincoln.... "Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes!"

I for one am thankful for devs like Isaac who put so much of their spare time aside for us. From the bottom of my heart, thanks man for all you've done. I sincerely appreciate it.

I wasn't demanding, I was suggesting but still saying it's important; but that "put-up-or-shut-up" part, i'm going to take it as a challenge.

Sounds like a plan. BTW, you never did answer my question. What do you have working on your ICS port?

Completely off topic but Isaac, it's awesome to see you got things going really well. I've been using the MIUI port since I found it on here. It's awesome. Oh and it's been a loooong time since I've last talked to you, so nice to talk to you again as well. In case you're wondering, I used to help you and Coderah out with the deving and testing in the IRC, before my internet got cut off. It was like..before any of this even got started. Haha. Liquidplacidity if you remember me.

I been busy, but I also been doing research. Well I'm using the ICS SDK to test certain things in emulator, then transferring any work to the Dump of Galaxy Nexus.Though the dump of the galaxy Nexus is very device specific...

Edit: I don't use github much, I just save a backup of whatever file in a different directory, though I should really start using github; easier to see exactly what I've changed.

Yeah, the Nexus dump has a lot of specific crap. Trying to use that as a base would be a major pain in the ass.

I've finished up cleaning out the touchscreen driver. I've removed the stupid macros and wrote a new function specifically for getting input coordinates.

Well it would be wonderful to see more finger inputs on the triumph since gaming is horrible with just 2,modern combat 2 is a pain to play so is just about any game, hope someone fixes it :)

This thread is not meant to become a bashing thread or a "Who's better than who" thread. This is a very useful thread. Isaac deserves respect on this as he's not required to do this work but instead chooses to.

I realize there are some of us here who want to be recognized too. We all like being noticed for our work but we have to be ready to provide that the work we've done is our own and legitimate. I'd hate to see someone steal a persons hard work as I've seen first hand someone doing exactly that (It was done to Isaac).

I'd like to see this thread continue as I am finding it informative and helpful for those of us learning about android. Please be courteous of the others around you. We all are welcome here. =]

P.S Isaac you are still awesome. LOL!

Ugh, I'm very confused about the Android driver landscape right now. I'm used to having all the drivers I needed in mainline... does the Android kernel tree keep any more around? Or is it the job of CM7 to keep track of all the drivers? Or individual port maintainers?

Also, if you're using your Gingerbread kernel, why would the touchscreen suddenly stop working? Or is there some userspace component?

BTW, why are you using prebuilt SDK ROMs? Is AOSP in such bad shape that you can't build the SDK ROM yourself?

Issac, are you going to keep working on getting us a real ICS port? Even if it takes waiting for CM9? I'd donate a small amount for ICS.
