"Im tired of hearing all this mess about the nexus, its just a phone that you will tire of quickly. There are real life issues and we spend time obsessing over a d*** phone."

Sounds like he's a bit frustrated.

EDIT: NINJA'D!

Also, for those of you that discount the idea that the Nexus could have had a name change at this stage of the game due to all of the boxing and packaging already being made and the first round of phones already being shipped. Don't forget that they did it to the Incredible.

This was the ORIGINAL box early adopters like me got:

And THIS is the box that the next round got:

FULL name change and packaging change AFTER launch.

Yeah, I got one of the originals as well. The biggest difference here is that with the Incredible they only added a word to the name, In this case they'd have to change a word. Consumer confusion would be a problem.

NFC GOOGLE WALLET NOT NATIVE?

Hey guys,
One of the key features of the galaxy nexus (besides ics) is the nfc capability. i was under the assumption that a google device with nfc would have native support for google wallet. I was shocked to find in an article on engadget that it isnt native for the hspa+ version and u have to root your device and other fancy stuff just to get it to work.

Does anyone know if google was planning on releasing an compatible version of google wallet in the future or will it be native on the us lte version. This is a huger bummer if you have to root the device just to get an app that should come stock. anyway thanks for your response in advance,

Cameron

Engadget Article: Google Wallet unofficially finessed into Galaxy Nexus, complete with complimentary cash -- Engadget

Yeah we've known that Google Wallet won't be coming to the GNex right away, it's just Verizon being stupid and sticking with ISIS (which will never catch on). Hopefully Verizon can come to an agreement with Google soon because the number of people who own a Sprint Nexus S 4G AND have a Citi MasterCard is about 10. lol

This is our chance!
Flood them with replies... "#GALAXYNEXUS!"
:P

Just a stupid theory which probably won't happen, but maybe they are just asking knowing that will be the overwhelming answer and right b4 they sign off for the night they will say "your wish has come true get ready to pre-order".

Wishful thinking on my part.

Verizon is teamed up with the ISIS payment system. They wouldn't promote a directly competitive system on their phone. As this launch has shown, Verizon has the final say, not Google. Ergo, Wallet out, ISIS in.

Speaking of ISIS, is Archer not one of the greatest shows out there or what?

Edit: My ninja'd cherry has been popped.

BREAKING NEWS

I just headed to my local Authorized Retailer store (read: NOT a corporate store, but a very similar retailer, Cellular Connection - Home) to ask about moving an upgrade up. The guy said he could only move it up a week, etc. etc. but then I asked him about the Nexus. When it would come out, if they got anything in, etc. and he told me that "[he] was actually just given the ability to pre-order three GNexi tonight. I know you're all thinking that this is the guy who got the notice for 50 GNexi but I asked him about that and he said it was screen protectors and cases, not the actual phones... BUT I asked if I could see the computer screen for proof to share with you guys, and while his manager was standing over his shoulder and wouldn't let me take a picture, I DID see that he was able to order [a whopping] three (3) SCH-i515's. No mention of when they would be available, but considering he was just able to order them, we could be seeing pre-orders online at midnight tonight or tomorrow.

BTW this guy gave me the DInc one day before it was released in stores, so I believe him... also he said he would set up a shipping notification for his phone, email, and text so he could call me literally the moment the phones come into the store. You would think if he was the average sales rep he would just try to sell me a RAZR or the like, but he was serious about this and was as excited as I am.

Take it FWIW, I know a lot of you will probably disregard it, but this is a serious news tip, from a verifiable source; I saw the pre-order form with my own two eyes.
:)

*** gapi Yawns***
You guys gotta give me some leeway, I have been waiting with my OG Droid since the Bionic and thru the SGII debacle. I have battle fatigue.

I've been thinking about this "original post thing" and I think I have a better solution. Bear (roar) in mind this is all based on an assumption about how the subscribe to thread emails work.

Instead of having a special first post we have a locked sticky thread that is a single post. In that post we tell members to subscribe to the thread (with email notification if they want up to the second notices) and it will be updated when pertinent information comes through the jungle.... errr pre-release "lounge" thread. This could allow the first post of the lounge thread to state reminders for behavior and a mission statement for the thread. It would also allow people who have to work and only one the juiciest of rumors to distract them to be notified. They would get that info without the posts on how South Jersey is way better then North (swamp/yucky beaches) Jersey.

Great minds think alike. :)

This is exactly what we have been planning all along for the forum once the phone goes live.

FWIW - like you, we expected phones released and for it never to have come to this lengthy affair when the OP structure was first laid out by Steven with consultation by Phases.

The suggestion is excellent - I'm sure Steven&team will consider it carefully as we move forward in these coming days. In truth, we just want it released and for the real fun to start for us the way it has for our UK cousins. :) ;)

Im tired of hearing all this mess about the nexus, its just a phone that you will tire of quickly. There are real life issues and we spend time obsessing over a damn phone. Easy for him to say, he has one.

And if you follow P3Droid you also heard that he just found out a close friend has Breast Cancer...my mom is just getting over Chemo and treatments due to the same...have a heart...yes we are all drooling over this phone as am I...but there is more to life!!!

People need to realize this isn't the Incredible.

Really? Hmmm. You know that was my point in posting those pics. To show it was really the Incredible in disguise.

Oh wait, nope it wasn't.

My point is to show that there is precedence for Verizon changing names at this point. There is precedence for pre-orders. Not that they can't do it differently, but to show that it HAS been done that way in the past.

I was just saying he doesn't have to wait, he gets to play with one now. He must be following this thread after his latest reply.

About a couple weeks ago, some UK users reported random volume problem on the Galaxy Nexus. Google has not yet release any official fix, even they have acknowledged the problem. The only fix available came from the developer community, but they are not officially from Google. I am not sure if Verizon might want to wait for the official fix and test it out first. After all, Verizon Wireless is known to take their sweet time on testing.

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/28/verizons-4g-lte-galaxy-nexus-still-in-testing-receives-android-4-0-2-update/

This is the same update P3 purported to receive a while back. So, since speculation is king in this thread, we "have" to assume this is the "fix" VZW was waiting for. Right?

Ok, all sarcasm aside- the volume bug was most widely assumed to relate only to the GSM version. If VZW found a bug, this would most likely be the solution Google put forth regardless if it was the volume bug or not. Basically, theres nothing new to report. We're still as clueless as we were weeks ago.

Galaxy Nexus = Galaxy Nexus Prime

HTC Incredible = Droid Incredible by HTC

Pretty similar change.

Could the volume bug not still apply to the LTE version if someone with say a T-Mobile or AT&T phone were standing nearby?

Well perhaps he shouldn't taunt people with having the phone (albeit a test version) before others? He's right, though, it IS only a phone in the end...

Galaxy Nexus Prime sounds unlikely. Even the mention of "Prime" in the name was pretty much shot down by the community after BB posted that in their ad (which they have since taken down).

I'd be kind of surprised. My understanding is that the Nexus Prime moniker got dropped a while back due to copyright concerns with Hasbro.

there are some that claim Verizon doesnt particularly care to sell many Galaxy Nexi either.
I've heard this before, and personally don't agree with it.

Verizon's primary concern is selling you a voice and data plan. They honestly don't care which smartphone you buy, just so you end up paying the fees. Thier business is service.

I'm going to try to boil this down as simply as possible. Some details are going to get omitted. When a carrier places an order for phones, they commit to sell X number. Let's say 100,000 for sake of argument. That's the agreement, but it's a LOT more complicated than that.

First off, the maker doesn't make 100,000 phones and ship them to Verizon warehouses. The releases are scheduled, and there are "guesses" as to the popularity of certain handsets. If the guess is right, then there are never any shortages, nor overages. Then there are certain contractural agreements such as the amount of advertising they will do, milestone payments, and penalties.

The most interesting of penalties is that when phones don't sell, the carrier isn't responsible for them. They discount them with agreement from the makers. They may BOGO the unwanted phones.

But at the end of the day, if a phone just doesn't sell, and Verizon has 90,000 of them sitting in warehouses, they get RETURNED to the makers. That's right, Verizon returns them, and is not stuck with them.

So I find it somewhat comical when I hear reports that the GNex was delayed due to poor RAZR and Rezound sales. If a phone doesn't sell, it gets returned. In other words, by all accounts I've seen, Verizon doesn't buy the phones, they enter a contract to sell them. Excess stock goes back. Honestly, that is a rare situation, because the manufacturers don't want them back, so they agree to fire sales and BOGO offers to clear inventory. However, there have been a few famous cases of returned items. Need not look further than the Palm Pre on Verizon and even more famous the Microsoft Kin debacle. Verizon tried to fire sale these handsets, and when they couldn't, they got sent back.

So as you can see, Verizon is the middleman who take thier cut, but isn't stuck holding the bag.
