***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

IIRC, wasn't every other Nexus phone released in the US first?

I have a feeling this will be the first and last time VZW gets the Nexus line first.

If AT&T and other carriers manage to expand or spring up their LTE networks then I can see Google looking elsewhere outside of Verizon the next go around.

I honestly hope if anything that whatever internal strife Google/Verizon/Samsung experienced behind closed doors gets smoothed out and any other iterations of Nexus down the road won't be so hindered. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Morning lick! I'm ready, willing and wanting!

Yes, yes it is. It comes around so fast.

And little is. A lot is not. :D

Same here. My battery drains faster at home, even when not being used much, than at work.

Personal opinion: its too square for my tastes. I like the rounded corners. BUT that's why so many designs are out there. Make the masses happy with choices...... *sigh*
Now these are the kinds of comments (taken out of context) that get me through my day while waiting on a drop date for the SGN!

This is just one big mass EPIC fail. I don't care who it's on, but someone has screwed the pooch royally with this phone launch in the US. I wish Verizon didn't have exclusivity. That would have probably forced their hand already.

Its only bad because you KNOW about it.. I want to be the guy that strolls in looking for a new case for his phone and just happens upon this beauty..

Not the guy that hypes himself up off the media echo chamber of unreliable sources then rage dumps all over himself..

I feel like I'm reliving the Bionic 'release' all over again

I'm still rocking a 3G iPhone (not even 3Gs) and have been patiently waiting for this Nexus since about page 4 of this thread.. not sure how much longer I can wait.

And a special thanks to those rumor spreadors who had me up until 12:30 refreshing Verizon's website :o

Say what you want about Apple, but at least they do their launches right. This whole process -- from the initial announcement, to the lack of Verizon being incorporated in the launch, to VZW finally announcing that they'll have the phone, to the lack of an actual release date, has reeked of amateur hour. Could anyone imagine this happening to Apple? I blame Google, Samsung, and Verizon equally as Google doesn't wield it's power like it should, and Samsung capitulates to the carriers, and well Verizon is interested in selling contracts not phones. I read that Apple and Jobs considered the consumer its most important customer and that other phone manufacturers consider the carriers their most important customers. I think this is a prime example of that. I've had and android device since the OG droid came out, but this almost makes me want to switch to an iphone, at least I know I'll get regular updates and a new model every year about 2 weeks after it's announced.

Rant over.

Exactly. I stated that a while back. This would NEVER, EVER happen to an iPhone launch. A presser is scheduled, the phone is announced with a release date, the phone is put up for pre-order the next day, and released within 2 weeks ( I believe some have been available within a week of the presser...can't remember each launch specifically). This is about to drive me back to Apple if Google can't get their launches straight and their updates rolling on a consistent, timely manner.

Well, yesterday I bought a $119 refurbished Nook Color to ease my way into the tablet world. Looks like it's widely supported when it comes to turning it into a full blown android tablet. I'm hoping it will keep me occupied enough to quit obsessing over this phone. :o

You should enjoy it. Make your way over to the Nook Color forum. Colchiro or myself are in there quite frequently and available to help you out.

No, it's bad because it's just plain bad. You want to see how to properly launch a new phone? See Apple. iOS and Apple are everything I hate about mobile OS's, but they get launches PERFECT.

Support is waning for the NC, but it's still a very capable device. I've only put CM7 on mine, never used PhireMod, though I hear it's great.
Too bad you weren't able to jump on the $99 deal for the Flyer. I think it's a much faster tab and really doesn't need any modding. :)

so, over the weekend I bought a razr cause my inc was driving me nuts. not a bad phone, but yesterday the thing stopped working and wouldnt charge....then leaving work (after calling verizon to tell them about the defective device) i drop it in the parking lot!!!!!! AAH! Does anyone know what VZW will do about this? It has a pretty significant scratch on the corner, am I now limited to only getting a replacement razr, or do you think I will be able to return it for a nexus....

Difference here is Apple makes and sells their own phone and allows Verizon to sell it. No Verizon branding on it, no bloat inside and also no LTE radio. I bet if there was no LTE we would've had it a week after the announcement..

it's a LOT easier when you put out one phone a year that is marketed as the greatest phone of all time. Google/Android has a COMPLETELY different business model, and its about choices.

Good choice actually! I bought one for the GF and she ended up never using it. I decided to commandeer it and instantly installed CM7 on it. It honestly is a great choice for a full-fledged android tablet. It may lack the beefy specs like dual core processors and a camera and such.

It was a joy to have it tethered to my Droid2 for my road trip over the weekend to keep up with this thread :D.

Yikes
Did you get insurance on it? This sounds like it'll be a tough situation, and a main reason I didn't jump on the "Rent-a-Razr" deal. I wish you luck!

That is sort of "apples" to oranges comparing a phone manufacturer to a cellular service but I understand what you are getting at.

Well, my want has gone to a full-fledged need. Yesterday my OG Droid started getting ghost touches all over the place, making it completely unusable, except to receive calls (sometimes). If I can even unlock the screen, that's all I can do, cause the screen just goes crazy from there. If I wait long enough, it will eventually hit my calendar widget and start to enter a new event into it (for today - maybe it's the Nexus ghost trying to tell me something?). I checked all over online, and all I can come up with is a hardware problem.

I just called Verizon, hoping to use my story to pry some Nexus info out of them. I told the girl outright "I know nothing's been officially said about the release date, but could you give me more info? If it's going to be a week I can deal with it, but any more than that I'll need to go elsewhere", since my contract was up earlier this month. She said she couldn't give me any more info, then followed it up by saying "but keep your eye on the website, keep checking on it". I could be reading too much into it, but that may be her way of saying something is immenent.

Will have to see how the next day or two goes, then I may need to bite the bullet and "rent" a RAZR for a while.

Well, I've been lurking a while and I have to say that if I was Verizon, I think I may be handling the launch the exact same way. Look: Verizon has a built-in buyer-base for the phone. Everyone who is passing the Razr and Rezound specifically for the Galaxy Nexus, the people tweeting to Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus, the people calling Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus are all waiting to buy the Galaxy Nexus. If Verizon released it today, they would buy it. If Verizon releases it the week before Christmas, they will buy it. If they release it the week after Christmas, they will buy it. Why release it today and potentially cannibalize sales on other phones that people may buy as Christmas gifts for relatives? Don't give them another option and, after the holiday shopping season ends, release the Nexus and have your built-in buyer-base flock to them. It seems like smart business to me. Whether or not there is an actual issue regarding the software on the phone, this seems like the ideal way to string along your buyer-base while making sales on other products.

As for me, I think that Verizon won't release the Galaxy Nexus until the week of the 19th, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see it the week of the 26th.

Easy to sit here and type that on the internet.

Google doesn't have that type of power over Verizon. Once they do, and they can have a single model sell as much as the iphone does, then you'll see that happen.

Hint, it won't be anytime soon.

Has nothing to do with it. Google puts out one phone per year (roughly) as well. Launching a phone doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to do with your business model, and neither does LTE. It's Google's fault for allowing a carrier to dictate what is done with their phone and when it is released. It's a different story for the rest of the android phones...I realize it's a different business model, but the Nexus is the one phone Google controls from start to finish, yet they allow this to happen. If you ask me, the blame is equally shared between Google, Verizon, and Samsung.

This morning my horoscope reads: "You will be linked to the stars today." Naturally, that means that the Galaxy (stars) Nexus (link) will be announced today. If this happens, I will reconsider what I think of astrology...

Or it could mean, falling space junk.......lmao

morning!

It's not a cellular service.... no clue what you're getting at with that point. Apple launches a phone and tells carriers when they will get them and when they will launch them. I'm sure Motorola does the same. Why didn't Google/Samsung with the Nexus...if they did, then why is there no information given to the public?
