I got used to using wi-fi tethering on my OG Droid, but I haven't been able to get it to work on my shiny new Droid 3. I have it rooted, but every time I try a tethering app, the stock "Tethering or Mobile Hotspot active" message comes up and it looks like it blocks the app somehow.

I can never get it to give my laptop an IP address, although it will usually connect. In Barnacle I get the following error:

Code:
DHCP: Could not bind to DHCP port: Address already in use

Has anyone had any success?

Without performing the Radio Hack, wifi tethering is NOT POSSIBLE on Droid 3 without paying for tethering... WiFi radio is locked by default. No App can unlock it...

I believe someone posted months ago that they successfully tethered via bluetooth with the radio hack. I didn't bother going that route, but it could be a safer way. Just saying. :-) I personally went with the radio hack.

Bluetooth tethering and USB tethering work without the Radio hack.

All the radio hack does is enable wifi hotspot and mask all data to look like the phone is making requests instead of attached device...

Yes, I use it infrequently. But you need to search on XDA, not here as its not AF's policy to mention details.

hi guys, link removed and thread closed. Voided Saint said it well. :) Thanks, VS.
