Root I f-ed up and now I need major help

Apparently the first nandroid backup I have is after I already flashed a rom and kernel, and after busybox failed to install properly. I still think there are a bunch of stuff wrong and I see no way of fixing this without doing a complete factory reset, reflashing gingerbread and unrooting. I am just having way too many issues with this root stuff. I'm not happy with what has happened. What do I need to do?

What is your hboot version? As long as you can get to the bootloader and recovery, we can get you up and running with a stable rom and minimal issues without unrooting.

As long as you are still able to get to recovery you are able to just flash a different ROM and solve your problem.

The first nandroid is more of a way for people who discover custom ROMs arent for them or really just dont get how to flash things and want to go back.

Try a different ROM first. Flash either MikG or tommytomatoes classic. Dont even bother with a custom kernel right away if your having problems keep it simple. You can flash one of those at any time.

If that still doesnt work, you can flash the stock rooted ROM and still maintain your superuser without unrooting. The only thing you need to unroot for is your warranty service.

And I just re-read your other thread. Your busybox is already installed you dont need to re-install it.

Titanium backup issues with not gaining root can usually be fixed by uninstalling both and reinstalling both superuser and titanium backup from the market

These issues are minor and easily fixed, you really dont need to unroot. However, we can still provide instructions on how if you wish

What ROM are you on? Before installing the ROM did you find out what it's known issues are?

ROOTING isn't for everyone I'm sorry you are having issues just try to relax we can help gouger the phone back to a workable state

I haven't tried a sense based rom yet, only aosp rom so I'll give mikg a shot. The busybox issue was different before I restored my nandroid when I made the last thread. Now it's saying it failed to install properly and I don't know of a way to check if busybox is actually installed. I can get into recovery just fine so no problems there

I think you commented on my first thread, those were the issues that I knew about anyway. Justrunning super slow, issues with stuff like busybox.

My first flashing experience wasn't a great one either. I had all kinds of force closes that I later discovered were self caused.

What recovery are you on?

When wiping, make sure to wipe every option except the SD card at least once (dont wipe the SD card!) . Following that, flash the superwipe zip to clean up some other files and give you a completely clean slate. Especially when switching between AOSP and sense and sense and AOSP you need this clean slate.

I'm using amon RA. I flashed to mikg a few hours ago and seems to be the best rom I've tried thus far, although I will say I'm not a fan of sense..also, busybox installed properly. Score

Its not for everyone.

However, get that set up the way you like it so its stable and you can run it as a daily. You can then make a nandroid and start playing around with AOSP again, at least then you will have something else to fall back on if it still doesnt work for you.

Sounds good to me

Glad you're back to stable.

I too had a heart attack my first go round with the evo. I had my Hero rooted for a hot minute before I upgraded, then I had issues my second Rom flash. I had the major disappearing battery issue with my first AOSP flash. It followed me back to my sense setup and I was freaking out! I downgraded my PRI and NV after Akazabam calmed me down, and all was right as rain.
We're here to help, don't worry. If we haven't seen it before the forum has, and we'll find a solution. :)

If you like AOSP, try out the Xplode Rom. I liked the early versions, but I haven't kept up with it lately.

I'd look up some old posts. Very very smart. Created a .bashrc file for the terminal emulator program to make it function more like the standard bash on a desktop. Very cool. On a side note, doesn't work too well with MIUI (when I tried it).

PRI and NV? Can you please elaborate on those? I do like AOSP, I tried MIUI and had a helluva lot of FC issues, same with evokings, but that was before my nandroid restore so I have no idea if it actually was or was not user error.

I've got a pretty good thing going with mikg, but my battery life is way worse than stock sense with 2.3.3. I was getting 24hrs+ with stock rom, and now I'm lucky to get 20hrs and that's with using setcpu to underclock. I just did a nandroid backup so I may try a flash here at some point tonight.

Give this thread a read when you have a chance, it should answer some of those questions you have.
