He said something about a poster he saw that mentions the 8th for Nexus release!

No, I didn't see any Nexus posters. I wish I had seen some.

What I meant is that because that screenshot showed 12/1 for new iPhone graphics and 12/8 for Nexus graphics, and there are now new iPhone graphics in some stores, then it stands to reason we'll see the Nexus graphics on the 8th.

Doesn't confirm the release at all, but I would imagine that at thins point they aren't going to put up the graphics more than a day or two prior to release.

thanks i bookmarked the page. It is your suggestion to do this as soon as i get the phone so as not to lose any apps and such?

Gladly - we have detailed instructions in a thread in our Galaxy Nexus All Things Root subforum -

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/452146-how-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html

Package download and full details for what you'd like are under the heading:

Click the [Show] button just below that to get the download link and the exact process to unlock the bootloader.

Also, you'll find a wealth of other root information in that subforum. :) ;)

Good evening, Nexicans! Checking in on my every-three-day cycle. So it seems like ther is a lot of positivity regarding the 8th. Should I be ok going into my local vzw tomorrow and signing up (see: upgrading to) a rent-a-razr?

Seems like I should be ok for the 14 day return period at this time, no? I would like to get the he** out of my ancient blackberry and step into the new world, but would obviously like to get the SGN.

I Ned some guidance from the sages on here and hopefully provide me with the assurance that I won't be jumping into a situation where I'll be screwed over and stuck with the razr. Thanks in advance for any insight.

several days ago there were links to videos of some guy w/ an english accent talking about the desktop and car docks. Anyone find out where you can get this ordered from?

Because these ads did start last week. I saw them while watching Hulu, so they are on track, but maybe the GNex wasn't included in the first week or 2 of that set.
That would be nice but I am highly skeptical...who was it that posted a few days ago about corporate actually being excited about this phone release. If that really is the case, maybe they will have a separate ad for the Nexus....I sure hope so!

So based on that advertising roadmap which I strongly believe is correct, now that Verizon has been advertising the Droid Charge and the Samsung Stratosphere, does that mean the Nexus is next? :O :D :D

Welcome to the forums! :)

Rooting is the act of gaining root access on the phone. It is the equivalent of gaining Admin access on a PC.

Once rooted, you can manage anything in the system - installing or uninstalling system apps for example.

The bootloader is analogous to a system bios. All bootloaders are locked, some are locked and encrypted and difficult to deal with. The bootloader on any Nexus is very simply locked. Once appropriate software is downloaded from the Android developer site, you unlock it with this one simple command -

fastboot oem unlock

Doing so wipes the phone - equivalent to a factory data reset.

Unlocking your bootloader allows you to install a package called a recovery - recovery allows you to make an image backup of your system (a perfect snapshot of it at that point in time) or to recover that backup in case you mess anything up while playing around with root access. Unlocked bootloader access also eases a number of other common root activities.

Hope that helps. :)

Some other newb questions:

1) Which of these (root/unlock) void your device warranty?
2) Can both of these be "undone" if you do have to use a warranty/insurance replacement?
3) Any other caveats to doing these aside from warranty implications?

If I were you I'd wait it out for the next few days, it's not worth the $35 restocking fee...

I hope so. My guess is that we'll start seeing Nexus ads tomorrow, with Verizon's site replacing the 7-day sale with Nexus on Tuesday.

At this point I would say just wait the few extra days. By the time you get the RAZR, set it up to your liking, and get the battery calibrated, the Nexus will probably be out. I know it is tough living the BB, but it's not too much longer. I've been surviving on an HTC Dream (the first Android phone ever made). I can get my e-mail, texts, phone calls, and open up Google Reader. And that is all I can do with it, everything else crashes the phone, not to mention the battery lasts about 5 whole hours on standby.

IMO, if you know you want the Nexus, best to wait just a few more days.

Thank you, I couldn't see the picture you posted, all I saw was see attachment which took me to the Android central login page....

1. Both void them and rooting and unlocking. Are both now undoable
2. See answer to 1
3. There is always a risk you take modding your phone that can breaking beyond repair called bricking. But What you do to your phone is your doing and is your responsibility

Let's say Wednesday is the start of preorders, it would indicate 9th as the day. I can't see preorders 1 day before. I'm a little skeptical that we see this phone at all this week if 7th is the preorder date. I can't recall a past preorder with such a short period by Verizon.

1) both
2) yes
3) make a full backup in recovery and BE CAREFUL! while rooting is nice for the things it will allow you to do, it will also allow you to do some really dumb things... like deleting the phone apk, changing framework code that could brick your device, etc. These problems will not be encountered by accident, but they are possible if you start changing/deleting things without knowing what you are doing. that being said, a full backup in recovery will save you from (almost) every mistake.

Edit: ninja'd

Since we're talking "bootloader unlock for dummies"... Looks like the link just shows a root option for Mac... any insights on unlocking the bootloader on a mac? I found one link, but, I don't feel like I have any kind of grasp on it...

TIA
