Eris to v2.x, when?

What's your average signal strength like? The biggest drain on a battery is a phone searching for signal and bouncing between carriers.

Could also be a defective battery. With an awake time that low you should still get decent battery life.

I think my signal is fine. I've never had an issue with dropping calls or sending text messages. I went to Verizon yesterday and the guy told me that my battery was fine and that it should be fixed when the update drops. He told me that would happen sometime next week.

they will tell you anything these days

I think that is actually pretty accurate information. From everything I have been reading and the people I have been talking to, we should probably start seeing updates around the 26th or the 5th. That is if testing goes well obviously.

That isn't coming from a crazy math problem I made up either. ;)

I know Verizon didn't block google nav and force VZ nav for their Droids, I wonder if Sprint will block it and force people to use Sprint Navigation.

One thing I did notice in the new market app, there is a tab at the top for VCast Apps. There's the My Verizon app and a few others. Don't remember seeing it on the 1.5 load.

No, it isn't there in 1.5. I remember seeing this on a friends Droid though. The only Vcast app that I really want is the NHL app I keep seeing advertised during hockey games. That thing looks sweet!

What does the My Verizon app do?

for real? only a week of testing in the "feild"? well S**t ..

hmmm now (prolly need to ask this else where) what will this do to rooting? push that back? looking for new exploits?

Yes, an NHL app would be GREAT! Go Pens!

I work in technology designing apps as well as testing them. I can tell you that if testers just got the first build a few days ago, it will be a while before we see 2.1. If bugs are found, the build will need to go back, specification changes made and regression testing started all over again.

thats what i would think

Well, I suspect there are several levels of testing ... initial ones that are pretty tightly controlled, followed by ever-broader ones. If what we're talking about here is the final pre-release version of 2.1, I could see a general release happening in a couple of weeks, but it it's an earlier build we could have a wait on our hands.

I thought other models of Android phones already had the 2.1.

I think there's a little bit of everything out there at the moment ... 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1. In terms of numbers, at least, I think that most of the phones out there are still running 1.x versions of the OS.

bingo....

we have weeks, not months, to wait....

If 2.1 has been out there it seems like the level of testing being done for Eris-like phones would not be the same as "first build" testing.

I would think (and hope) that's the case, too, but I honestly have no idea. I don't know how much tweaking the OS requires for various phones, chipsets, whatever ... I suspect there's some, but presumably not an awful lot.

I imagine for the Eris, the biggest task was reworking Sense for full compatibility with 2.1 on our phone.

I wish it was days, not weeks... But I will survive.

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without 2.1 by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how 1.5 did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to tweak my Eris
and so the hope is back
from develpers and testers
I just logged in to find them here
in the forums telling us of things to come
And so I changed my screen lock
and now I dream of animated screens
If I had known for just one second
they'd be back to bother me.

Ohh...
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to text
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my pics to give
and I'll survive
I will survive..

:D
