***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

False I returned a charge after the fact unlimited data would be grandfathered and my upgrade got restored.

without manager approval? I didn't say it couldn't happen. Simply that generally, the policy which everyone is seeking to exploit with the extended time frame is called an exchange. Plus I was referring to his specific circumstance. If Scott is planning on buying and R phone, then replacing it with the Gnex, that would be an exchange, not a return.

This is what I got out of a CSR.

If you are not going to do it why ask and why care. Control the things you can control in life. just a little advice for you FWIW

I have a question regarding the Rent-a-Rz thing... I know it's a little late in the game, but I'm curious:

I was asking a CSR about doing this and she said that if I got aforementioned Rz phone, it would use my upgrade and I wouldn't be able to return it for the GNex without paying full retail price. I even told her about the new return policy, but she insisted that would be the case. Can someone confirm what would be the case? I'm pretty sure she was wrong.

BTW, I'm not necessarily considering doing this since we're FINALLY in the home stretch and I wouldn't want to pay a $35 restocking fee, but I'm just interested.

My rep told me she didn't see the SGN in her system. I told her the rumors if a pre-release/release this week. She checked further and found reference to it. She said she looked all over that screen and it gave no dates :(

I then asked her that if a pre-release were to be scheduled for Wednesday, when exactly on Wednesday would that start. She was very clear that orders start at 12:01am EST, the day of pre-release. I think I'll be staying up for that one!

She also said that the number of days between the pre-release orders being taken and it being in the store varies. Again :(
Okie Dokey, lol so another past midnight stayup party inbound for Tuesday confirmed!

Check out the guide for rooting in the root section of this forum.

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/452146-how-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html

Right now, to get root it may be required to unlock the bootloader, which entails a wipe. But the root method itself doesn't wipe the phone, though. It may be semantics, but it's an important distinction. If you plan to root, the first thing you should do out of the box is unlock the bootloader. But you can unlock the bootloader, and root later at any time. The root process will NOT wipe the phone.

However, there may be future exploits that can root the device with a one click method with no bootloader unlocking necessary. Your hedging your bets against that exploit discovery though. And I don't think too many devs are going to go looking for an easy way when we can unlock the bootloader so easily.

I understand what you're saying and grasp the semantics of the discussion. However as of today, right now, if someone wants to root the GNex they may get this week, the only method available for rooting per the Root section of this forum (where I got my information) involves unlocking the phone which wipes it.

I have no doubt a more direct method will be discovered. My concern is if someone new to Android follows the current root procedure, believing it will not wipe their phone because that is what people on the forum are saying, they will be very surprised when they reboot to a reinitialized phone.

Somewhere in this thread (can't find it now... last night or this AM which is probably about 5000 posts ago) there was talk and concern over the screen timeout on the Gnex. Since almost day one on my OD I have been using Screebl which is great for tweaking screen timeout and helping with battery life. I liked it so much I bought the paid version. Check it out for free with the lite version...

When I go online I have a message on VZN's site saying I am eligible for an early upgrade with $50 off the price of the phone. But when I go to a Corp store I don't have that option they say. So I guess that means if I want that $50 I HAVE to order it online? That sucks because I wanted to get is ASAP. What to do what to do....

It's probably just the online discount they give on some phones.

Well, I'm signing off for the night! I gotta get some sleep, I have a Chem final in the morning! Wish me luck! Here's to hearing some news tomorrow! :D

Good night and good luck!

Aaaannnnndddd the sleep depravation cycle starts again.

I suck at braiding though. It took me about 5 tries to do that diamond knot. :p

it is a purty knot :D

They did it with Droid 3 when no announcement was made

yea but thats the droid 3, not the nexus. they are well aware of the amount of people waiting on this phone, and they wont do a pre-order without an announcement first, trust me they want to maximize their exposure and their will be an announcement first

Idk. There aren't that many waiting for it. Trust me those who visit sites like these are a tiny number. This won't sell anywhere near what iPhone sells. I can see them doing it with no announcement

Another questions. If I order a phone online and get it delivered to me. If there is something wrong with it, do I have to mail it back to verizon or can I take it to a corp store for exchange?

obviously its not going to sell like the iphone, that goes without saying. but if you think the only people waiting for it visit sites like this, you would be wrong there also. i have several friends who i dont consider techies, but they are well aware of this phone and are waiting for it like many of us are

I have to agree with you. I went into VZW and asked about the Galaxy Nexus and only one person (out of the five working) knew what I was talking about. And he was younger and looked like he goes on sites like these regularly.

I have never done it, but I have been told by csr's that it could be done.
