Wanted your guys input on this..I have a mac pro and I want a more seamless way to sync all music via iTunes once I get the GN. My 2 Questions:
1) Anyone know of a better program than Twist to sync?
2) Will Google Music Beta take care of syncing between iTunes direct to the phone?

I can't really test anything out right now as I have no phone :/

Are you saying I can put all of my wife's music from her iTunes on the GNex? I didn't even know that was possible. I thought iTunes would only sync with an iProduct

Rooting does not change a thing about your phone. AT ALL. You will still get updates. You will still do everything you want to do.

If you install a custom ROM (or operating system), THEN OTAs may be disabled. But simply having access to the phone's forbidden system files will not block them.

I know that this was posted a few pages ago, but I'm trying to catch up. Please forgive me if anyone else has already added this bit of information.

While rooting your phone does not keep you from getting updates, OFTEN if you accept the update pushed from the carrier/manufacturer you WILL LOSE root access until a developer finds another exploit for it. That is why people flash custom ROMs. The custom ROM will have the update added to it and allows you to keep root access.

It took me about 5 years to max out my vacation time. Now, I just use what I want/accrue each year, and I still carry over that 400ish. If I don't wind up using that 90 hours it gets converted to sick time, which is nice if I ever need it.

Wow, that's crazy. I can only carry 160 vacation, 240 sick. I'm maxed out on both. I do have enough vacation time planned over the Holiday's to get back down to 160, but, I have 2 sick days that need to be used... I may end up with a short-term nexi-flu around Fridayish.

Mine is use it or lose it. (actually, I could get paid out for 1/3 of my sick time over 240, but, not really worth it to me, I'd rather take the time)

He/she says she is not due for an upgrade until 2012, so my guess would be full retail minus whatever discount promotion he has.

Oh Ok. I thought he/she meant their contract was up in March 2012. My contract technically isn't up until 12/23, but I have had the NE2 discount since August I think. Doesn't Verizon let you upgrade early if you are signing a new 2-year contract??

Partially correct in my understanding.

everything is correct except that custom roms often block updates. The developer will usually create a new version of the rom using the official update(which has unofficially been rooted).

When VZW has done pre orders in the past, do they also simultaneously disclose the date of store availability?

In other words, if they DO offer pre-sale online ordering, will I be able to estimate if pre-order will get the device to me quicker than walking in and buying it in a store on day 1?

In your answer, please assume we don't yet KNOW the release date, or if there will be pre-sale (since some people seem pretty confident in specific days). Thx.

My Rule of Thumb has been if its up for 3 days before store, I'll preorder (Basically hoping if I pick overnight they ship 2 days early and I get it 1 day early). Two days or less ... I wait and goto the store. There is no real science to this on my part, just seems like what works the best for me.

Usually the update won't apply if your running a Custom ROM it simply fails (or they disable the update process). Sometimes it will fail on rooted phones as well, but your right its theoretically possible that you could lose root this way.

Haha na, I wish it worked like that. Either you open a new line for the upgrade (and sign a 2 year) OR you buy full retail..Again, this is if your already in the middle of a contract...

Hmm. I am eager to get this device, but not eager to pay a lot for shipping. Does anyone know how long standard shipping usually takes? FWIW, I am in Mpls, MN, urban core.

If you poke around on the web you can normally come up with a free overnight code for Verizon. Its usually something like FREEOVN.

Edit: Looks like they are offering free shipping on all internet sales atm. This is almost always 2 day, which should give you enough time as well.

Yup, check out the program Twist- it will do anything and everything to make iTunes and your android play fair. But, with Google Music finally out I think it is a better route..

I think I'm gonna sign off early tonight. Gotta try to get up early Tomorrow to work out. Also, sounds like we prolly wont have more leaks til Tues...no doubt I will check back tomorrow anyway. Lol, I am so addicted to this thread. G' night all, stay civil!

Last night I dreamt I was at a fruit store leaving AF on all the ipads sitting around. I think someone had suggested that Steven do that yesterday and it clearly stuck in my mind.

Off to sleep now. Let's hope tonight's dreams get me to the Samsung store so I can hold the GNex! Wish me luck.

Hey all...another lurker joining in as it looks like we're finally getting close!

Agreed. I'm not disputing that that carrier and manufacturer updates will fail if you have a custom ROM. BUT if you just get root access WITHOUT romming, you can still accept the upgrades.

You will continue to get the upgrade nag until you upgrade if you do not flash a new rom. There are ways (or there were with my Dinc) to get into certain files using file explorer and delete the nags when a new upgrade was being pushed.

I just wanted to caution anyone that will be new to flashing roms and rooting to be careful. If they root and do not rom, they will still get the notification nag. They will still (likely) be able to accept the update due to still having the original ROM just rooted on their phone. If that is the case they will have to root their phone again after the update. That is assuming a developer has figured a way to root it with that particular update.

Google's Music Manager uploads the files from your iTunes music folder, not through the actual application.

Right.

Download the desktop version of google music to your computer. When you run it select iTunes, and it automatically starts uploading everything to the google music site. I had about 5900 songs in my itunes library. Took about 24 hours to upload everything...and that's with a 4Mb upload speed on cox.net.

Then, on the nexus (or any other android phone) download the google music app, point it to your google music account, and in a few seconds, all the metainfo (album, genre, etc) is downloaded to the phone.

Select your music, or create a playlist, and go. Everything plays great.

My Ampache server is now deprecated lol. Thank god.

Joe

Thought you all might be interested, another Tweet:
@P3Droid: I wonder how some of u will go on, you have vested so much energy in this Nexus phone. What comes next for you? Or is it all down hill now

Sounds like he thinks it is definitely happening soon, fwiw.
Ok, now I'm really going,
Night all!

And with 61K (+a few), I bid you all good night. Sweet dreams! We can make it! My kids think I've completely lost my mind...yep, I think the Nexus ate it. :o) Hopefully it will give it back when I hold it in my hand on Friday!! ;o)
