Help how to save my apps to my "external sd" ?

So I'm a bit confused about this. I have a 16gb class 6 card that I want to use instead of the factory on that I guess comes preinstalled with the esteem.
Also another question is that I'm having a hard time figuring out what kind or type of apps are able to be installed onto the external sd card. I have downloaded a couple of apps to help with that but they seem to not be correct because it suggested that I move poweramp to my external card and now the widget is gone.
Thanks in advance

well, is it not really necessary to move small apps to the SD due to the great amount of space the phone offers. But if you want to move "the" big apps or Game. i suggest you. *just make sure not to take out the sd when you want to try the app or game*

its best (i think) to move apps that exceeds 10mbs of space and make sure you move games too.

and for you second question. DON't EVER attempt to move apps to sd that relates to widgets. for example that particular app, Poweramp is important to keep it in internal memory so it could load faster within your system and besides in order for all the widgets and widget apps to work they HAVE to be in your internal memory not your external. before i was having the same problems because my older phone used to reboot, then i found out that the widget that was disappearing was because it has been moved from the Phone's internal memory.

gotch. Thanks. Thats what I read on a couple of other threads, along with not removing system apps.
So if a certain program has an available widget that you can put up never move those apps? Even If I dont have the widget up?

oh and not to rude but I dont think you answered my first question on how to save it to the external sd card thats you can insert next to the battery.

also the reason why I want it on that specific card is because the class is higher and it writes and reads faster than the stock one that comes with it.

Actually, for Power Amp in particular, they have a small (450k) widget pack for download so you can move the main app to the sd card. I know of a couple other apps that have this option also but, as stated above, it's just a good rule of thumb that if it is/has a widget leave it on the phone. hth

Ohh sorry. There are several ways to move apps to sd. If you ARE NOT ROOTED, then you can just move apps to external sd by simply going to settings > Applications > Manage application. Then you go to the Sd tab and you select and transfer whichever apps you want to move. Remember be wise on what you move.

Also there is an app in market called app2sd which it tells you and also gives you the option to select each available app and move to your sd.

However, there is also the a2sd but I think that's not necessary as this phone has plenty of space implemented...

I've done that and already had the app however it doesnt give me the option to save it to the external card that I bought thats bigger and has a higher reading and writing speed. also its 16 gb as of right now I'm just using it to put movies and music on but I cant find any app that will let me specify a certain location. I guess I could just move the folder to where the app is currently moving them to. Sorry if I'm being confusing

Uhm look, as far as i know your sd it's shared within your internal and your external sd. so when you are moving the apps to the sd, you are basically transferring them to your "sd" which is shared by your extra 4gb plus your external sd, in this case 16gb. Even so, when you are moving the app to "SD' you are definitively moving to your sd thus giving the phone more space and less time to load from system...

did you understand?

edit: found this vid, maybe it'll help you.

No, there is currently no way to move apps to the external sd card.

You sure??? .

Then why explain; there was one time when I moved one app to "sd" and for no reason the ed got damaged. After that I took my sd card out and the app that I moved had an error. Similar if you take the app's destination folder in this case the sd...sd.

Until now I couldn’t find any app for moving apps to the real external SD card. Some apps like Titanium Backup let you change the path for storing some data and some others like the camera app let you change the storage folder (DCIM) to the real external SD but other than that we can’t move apps to the external.

uhmm... then i must have done something very odd. that's it what i had in mind about sd and external sd... :9

there is a root app called droidsail super that does move it to external SD. but i dont know its its completely moved because when i check. both internal and external hasnt changed

Just downloaded and tested and it doesn't move the apps to the external SD card just to the internal one.

i wish the internal memory was actually a card where u could just swap it. that owuld make the phone M azziiiiiinnggggg

That would be but then you would see many people messing up there phones by deleting the wrong files. Is there still no solution for this? I have a very nice micro sd card that's just sitting in my phone for just music and other media files. I was thinking off redirecting the/_externalsd folder to where the phones sd card is. Then just copy and paste everything from the internal to the external card. Would that mess stuff up?

I have a couple questions about the same thing... When I first got my phone I had to format my sd card so that the Esteem would see it. That wiped out my second partition for Link2sd.

I went back and put another primary partition on my 8Gb sd card with no problem but when I installed the card the phone now only sees that second primary partition. Link2sd works but I can't access the other partition on my 8Gb card.

How do I install Link2sd on the esteem so that my files are linked to my external-sd... or am I supposed to give the phones sd card a second partition so link2sd will work?

And I also noticed I have copies of system files on both phone sd card and my sd card like Android secure, and data files which I noticed I need for my nandroid backup but can I delete the system files of my external-sd card?

Thanks

Yes you should be fine. Just make sure they are in fact on your internal. That's what I did. I let all the system files and what not get installed on the internal and then I keep all my backups, roms, and other installs on the external.
