Does a soft launch mean no official announcement?
Or just a simple press release day before/ day of, no advertising blitz.

I don't think that's true. I had opened a VZW line for my Xoom when I bought it on contract. I then bought the 10.1 Galaxy Tab off contract (way before I was upgrade eligible), and was able to preorder it with no problem. Just chose the off contract price and it let me do the order. don't see why it'd be different for any other line.
thread says op was updated 12/6. what exactly was updated??
OT:
Finally finished reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Good story, and for ONCE in his frakking life he didn't screw up the ending. I swear, that guy never thought up a lousy ending he didn't like (The Stand foremost among them). He always either cheats or cops out. This time around, not so much.
Highly recommended.

Kinda OT to your post.......
My contract is up 1/1/2012 and I am renewing to keep my unlimited data. If I go off contract I would be a sitting duck for a policy change that could wipe my unlimited data.
I think The Chief did a study on buying subsidized vs retail and the math was not much different in what you pay for the device either way. Not sure. Chief?

Season finale of Sons of Anarchy tonight! Still haven't watched episode 13 on my DVR, so it's gonna be a big night tonight.
Let me recap for you: first report was a Turkey to Santa release..then new window if possible 11/19 - 21...then stated it would be end of year purchase...last report was window of 12/8-12/13. There, plz don't ask me any more release info.

? to !
I will be buying off contract. This is the way I see it.
Contract price $299+tax=$320 +24 months @$11 per month = total $584.
Off contract $649+tax= $745
Difference = $161 more with off contract buy.
OOps, added the tax to 699, not 649.What kind of tax rate is that on the off contract price?? Yikes

Guess he's trying to distance himself from the phone eating?
If I am upgrading, do I have to upgrade at a corp store in the state I live in? I'm traveling from Michigan to Florida on Friday and would like to be able to pick up a nexus in Orlando, but am not sure if that's possible as my account is in Michigan.
Which one? The corporate store on Atherton, or the 3rd party reseller (can't remember exact location...)

Goooood morning Neximaniacs!!
Nothing new yet I see other than a couple silly press releases we care nothing about.... oh well, stay positive!! Come on Big Red, give is something!
Heh, I actually really like the "cop out" endings. I don't generally like ending that are all neatly tied up, they seem boring. I did very much enjoy this book, though, different sort of story for him, and well done.
Nope. As long as you do it at a corporate store you'll be fine
Me too. I hate the effin' vzw store around here. They replace one jackA with another even bigger ja. But the way it's looking, it will be different than it was with the TB or DI. I actually got my device a day before the stores sold it, I believe it was a Wednesday with the release Thurs. Not gonna happen here unless they do online orders tomorrow with delivery 12/8 or 12/9. I can't believe I'm gonna have to walk in there. They will not be allowed to touch the phone with their grubby, disease infested, snot ridden fingers.I wonder if a soft launch would be an online launch as well? That's what I hope for.
I buy phones off contract too, but in all reality what's the point? Not like your carrier is going to give you a discount for bringing your own device to the party. Your plan still costs the same. You might as well take advantage of the discounted price
