For people buying off contract:
Have you considered just opening up a new line and paying monthly? Would that work out to be cheaper? I'm still trying to figure this out, if the phone is 299 with 2-yr contract..Anyone with some insight?

The other factor is I am hearing that you cannot pre order (if there is a pre order) if you are not eligible for upgrade or opening a new line..
That has never been the case before I pre ordered the iPhone full retail

OT (Dexter)

I had a rant on Sunday night, but, I didn't like this episode. It's almost like the writers wrote a 3-hour season and have added a lot of complete randomness to fill in the additional 9 hours. The female professor, trinity's son, husband and wife bad guys, female intern, etc... too many new characters with seemingly no purpose.

I think the intern knows Dexter's secret... "he never makes a mistake"... and then his game idea, I think that is why Dex is his hero.

I don't know, they have 2 seasons to pull it together, but, this season has felt like a lot of "filler".

OT:

I think Lewis might suspect something is up, but his crushed feelings at Dexter's reaction to his game makes me think that he doesn't know. He thought he did, and wanted to see his reaction, and now he feels like an idiot.

I kind of liked the Trinity's son story line this season, because I always wondered about the dangling Kyle Butler thread. The female intern bit was stupid. I liked her better on "Heroes" even though I hated that show after the 1st season.

On topic:

I'm wondering if those who pre-order and those who walk in to the store will get it the same day? I'd prefer to pre-order (if they even allow it), but only if I can be assured of getting it Friday.

I want to be in on the last posts in this thread!!

Ugh - that's the answer I am afraid to hear.

Can we go buy it and say, "can I just leave, please? I like to activate it myself at home."

Yes, just be polite, That's actually what I plan on doing because I won't actually activate it till I get beck from trip :/

True, but its kinda of silly to actually expect someone to eat their phone also. :P

Lol. I'm not saying "eat the phone!" I'm saying stand by your word. I am so shocked when you see people post things online and they sound so adamant, and then they get confused why people try to poke holes in the speculation. That comes with the rumor mill, my friend!

We see, yet again, another person throwing a pity party for themselves after they tried to expose a huge huge huge rumor. Welp... don't post it if you aren't willing to stand by it every second. :) Or if you can, give yourself an out in the original post. (This is all in relation to the guy's twitter update)

Kinda OT to your post.......
My contract is up 1/1/2012 and I am renewing to keep my unlimited data. If I go off contract I would be a sitting duck for a policy change that could wipe my unlimited data.

No. You don't get new contract terms until you sign a new contract.

OT:

Finally finished reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Good story, and for ONCE in his frakking life he didn't screw up the ending. I swear, that guy never thought up a lousy ending he didn't like (The Stand foremost among them). He always either cheats or cops out. This time around, not so much.

Highly recommended.

Off Topic:

I haven't gotten to that one yet, but it's on my list. Stephen King is my all-time favorite author. I'm sometimes (not often) disappointed in the endings, but it never detracts from the story for me. I like most of his endings, though. His older stuff is my favorite, but a few of his newer ones have been better than expected (Bag of Bones, From a Buick 8, Duma Key).

Being off contract does not mean you'll lose your unlimited data. I still have unlimited data and I was never on contract. My VZW business rep said the same thing, as long as you're not changing the type of plan then you're good. You can still change minutes/text/phones (3g or 4g) and it doesn't matter, you still have unlimited. If a local store rep tells you otherwise then you need to ask to speak to a manager. (local store reps don't seem to really know anything most of the time)

^This. But even ON contract, if they wanted to take away unlimited data, they can as long as they give you notice.

That's how it was for the Dinc launch, they timed it that way. Although your dealing with a shipper so there will be variations. (some early-YAY! some late-BOO!)

I'm almost thinking their won't be a pre-order for this phone at this point.

Really?? My friend did hers in Florida and her account was opened in Jersey. Maybe she sweet talked them?

Premium and Authorized retailers only have access to accounts that are region specific.

As an exception, some of the larger chains of authorized retailers might have logins for other regions; however using these outside of the allotted area is very frowned upon by Verizon corporate.

This is weird but I'm not hearing anything local which others are hearing.

I called the two closet corporate stores and got different but equally disappointing responses. The first said he had no date but I could certainly make an appointment if I wanted to. An appointment only means no waiting but does not guarantee the item will be in stock (ie. they won't hold one for you). He told me he knew of no release date and couldn't tell me if he did. Annoying but honest. I decided to call another store to hopefully find someone who was more cooperative (the guy was cool and I was cool back).

Second call, I talk to the manager (she referred to someone as "one of my people" so I'm assuming) who looked it up in the system and said she found nothing. What was different is she appeared to be digging to see if she could find the info. There was either no info there or she was damn good because I ended up waiting for a while, listening to her type stuff, asking me about the spelling, etc. She asked another employee, who is also waiting for a Nexus, and he said he heard nothing. She then said she thought the release was closer to Christmas or early January because if it was releasing this week she would have heard something.

All in all very unfulfilling. :(

OT:
If he knows that Dexter's wife was killed by a serial killer, it is kind of messed up to show him the game. On the other hand, he has the ice truck killer evidence hand so he probably knows about Dexter's brother.

No, I disagree. Should be eaten, battery and all. Or we chop their fricken hands off.

No, the battery has acid, doesn't it? I think that might kill him. I say stuff it in a blender with a cup of chocolate milk, blend it up, pour it down the hatch.

I've got Bag of Bones in my epub collection, as well as Mile 81. Bag of Bones is good? Maybe I'll give it a try.

If I can't get confirmation from my corporate store by the time it's for sale online (assuming that's tomorrow), then I'm ordering online to ensure it gets here before I leave. If they guy will text me back with some info, I'll go to the store, upgrade myself to the Gnex, add a line for my foster daughter with iPhone 4s, and switch that to give her my husband's DX and give him the iPhone.

Off topic:
I'm not so sure Lewis isn't a serial killer himself.

I have info . . . I've PM'd Steven to verify. Once he does I will share. Here's a teaser . . . if you are interested in purchasing your Verizon Galaxy Nexus today, I know a Corporate store that is doing that and having it delivered to your home on Thursday.

Confirmed: in the warehouse

Confirmed: on the way to said Verizon Wireless CORPORATE Store

Confirmed: will be in said Verizon Wireless CORPORATE Store THURSDAY.

I have the number. I have the name of the sales associate willing to do it. I will give it once (and if) Steven confirms it.

To be continued . . .
