Only fitting that it comes in this thread. :D

I am absolutely ecstatic with the fact that I just snaked my way into unlimited data. I currently have the mobile hotspot still intact, has anyone confirmed that once that's removed the unlimited data will stay?

That would be an affirmative. I just did it tonight.

OK, crazy theory.

There have been a couple rumors about a VZW rollout to update LTE. Kind of stupid to do this without a PR, but who knows. Maybe it's a scheduled rollout, and they had a few hiccups (Obviously), and they pulled back until they iron out the kinks.

They probably often roll out updates. New towers are brought online, LTE rolled into new areas, updates on the tower computer infrastructure, or even something as benign as updates to the routers and switches that make up the backend. Of *course* they're rolling out upgrades constantly, without PR, because most of the time you'd never notice it. Unfortunately sometimes something goes wrong, and then you have a lot of engineers and techs not sleeping until it's fixed.

Oh and not pour salt on our Galaxy Nexus wound, but the device is completely gone from Equipment Guide now. #whateverthatmeans

What the HELL? Verizon is SO worried about keeping things hush hush that they are alienating many of their customers.

This whole thing is going to be a mess if it doesnt release Friday. I can see it now some are going to actually get them because some of the autherized resellers arent going to get the message, and some locations just wont care and sell them anyway. The way I have it figured if it doesnt happen Friday, I am just going to keep calling stores till I find one that will sell it to me!

OR: Resellers will sell the phones on Friday but VZW won't activate any of them. Either way, Verizon has the potential of looking worse than they do now.
This is what I'm trying to figure out...

With 3G phones, VZW phones needed activation because the phone identity was tied to the phone itself. They keyed in the ESN from the box the phone came in to get things going. If the sold device wasn't ready to be sold yet (as happened when I managed to get a Xoom before launch day earlier this year), Verizon's system basically wouldn't let the retailer set up a plan.

4G is all SIM based, and your CSIM/USIM identity is on the SIM card itself. The phone is going to just present the data coming off the card. As long as I have a valid Verizon SIM with a properly paid bill, things should work. So any premium retailer with a pulse should be able to get me going on an activated SIM (maybe not the one boxed up with the phone) and be good to go.

My understanding is that Verizon would have to block the IMEIs of all the Nexus phones to successfully prevent a sold Nexus phone from registering on their network.

I guess the question is whether they would go through that kind of trouble to prevent a phone launch.

i read somewhere the outage should be fixed by midnight... maybe that's pst? either way if service is restored, vzw tests out nexus connectivity. passes. announces to release on friday. Everyone is happy. hurray?

Yeah, I believe The Chief mentioned that here.

Did they ever send you an equipment guide, personally? You're not supposed to see that, so what exactly have they done to alienate you?

eh, might not mean anything that the EG is out. if we follow our common theory the reason they change it from dec 9th to coming soon was to stop the confirmation that some stores and media were rolling out to consumers.

It changing was supposed to stop that but now it leaked again and is creating more chaos, might as well just take it down and put it back up TOMORROW AFTER IT IS ANNOUNCED.

Just had a text with my local rep less than five minutes ago (corporate store, Northern VA). Told him that I was hearing about rumored delays for the Friday launch (I'm scheduled to go in for the early opening on Friday). His exact words were, "Our guide still says Friday". He then went on to say that he'd let me know tomorrow if anything changes.

Perhaps there is still hope?

you are assuming the person that writes the messages follows the rules of formal logic. Most of the time people do not. So when people change the date from Friday to whenever, it means not Friday. Unless there is evidence that the person 1 knows the rules and 2 is careful in choosing words to obey those rules. Is it safer to assume 1 and 2 or to assume that the person is like most everyone else?

I think you are assuming way more than I am.

hopefully they're just updating the page.

Maybe they removed it to update it tomorrow and once again say launching 12/9/11? wishful thinking i know.

I've been thinking... Let's just we get delayed a few days or a week or so. Right?

It makes me feel good and all warm inside that we have another week with each other, enjoying each other's company and banter. I have grown very, very fond of all you folks. Seriously. :)
