Newbie
im kind of familiar with the root process. I had an evo 4g running 2.2 that i rooted but i broke it and the new one i got came shipped with 2.3.3 I rooted that one with the revolutionary program and i have s-off but i never successfully flashed a recovery so my phone is not rooted. Need to know how to easily flash a custom recovery and get root on my phone. I am kinda new to all this so please in terms i can understand thank you.

Ocnbrze put together an extremely easy to follow guide under the "All Things Root" section, should be stickied and still available.

I ran into the same issue, all I did was reconnect my phone to the PC and run the Revolutionary utility again, when it came to flashing a recovery I just followed the prompts. Once you get ROM Manager/Clockwork Recovery, I'd recommend switching to Amon_Ra's latest version, it works much better.

Great! it worked so now it is rooted thanks again!!! main reasons i did this is to have the tethering back and to get the htc sense 3.0 with the kingdom rom. Any links or directions you have to get sense 3.0? thanks....

Sorry about subject change, but I left my phone with my cousin while working, and well long story short my phones hboot menu says -revolutionary- on it. I have read forums on how to uninstall this program or what ever it is but when I go into recovery, it shows a phone with a red triangle around it in front of a black screen. I would like to know if there is a way to uninstall revolutionary. My phone runs fine but it was running the out of the box software from last year!

Update to my last post. My cousin told me he installed the Factory ROM via a zip file. He said it started with pcs or something to that effect. I have downloaded apps that are for rooted phones and they say my phone needs to be rooted so it is clear there is no root on my phone but this "Revolutionary" ordeal is bothering me!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so revolutionary is just a tool to use to get you rooted. you need three things, basically, to be rooted. 1. you need your securities turned off. 2.you need you nand unlocked so that you can make changes to your system files and 3. you need a custom recovery.

so what we need to know is do you have s-off(your securities turned off)? what is your hboot or bootloader. to find these out power off then press and hold pwoer +vol down.

after that then you need to decide if you want to stay rooted (if you have s-off) or do you want to go and get your phone unrooted.

let us know and we can help you.
