I'm feeling good about the 15th though.

Anyone else planning out docks and homescreen icon layouts? I have been trying to figure out what my dock is going to look like, so far I think I might do:
Contacts, SMS, APPS, Browser, Google Folder

Anyone else?
I'll probably set it up similarly to my OG Droid:
Far left: Power settings widget, calendar wiget, media streaming (Netflix, etc)
Left: Social apps (Facebook, Skype, Gmail, Gtalk, etc)
Middle: Beautiful Widgets clock/weather, SMS, Camera, Shazam, Gallery, MBTA Bus Tracker app, Alarm Clock, Google Music, Maps
Right: News widget, Dropbox, Phandroid, a few games, New York Times
Far right: Baseball-related apps, ESPN widget

When I called my local corporate store, the guy said they had some, couldn't sell them until the 15th (that's what he heard). Put me on a list to call as soon as he hears something.. I had him look up my account to make sure I could score one. Since I'm only upgrading at a discount price (feb6 real early upgrade date) I will have to pay 20bucks extra cause it a 1 year upgrade. My grandfathered unlimited trolls over. Didn't know a price cause it hasn't been released.
He said he read online that maybe a 16gb version was going to be released....don't hold much water in that, but if it did and was cheaper, I'd be all over it. Please VZW 16gb!! I have all the music I need on my Eris and its only at 4gb.

Personally, I may wait till after xmas or right before the new year. I'm going on a cruise and have to drive to S FL from the panhandle of FL. I kinda like having wireless tethering on my Eris, so my daughter can get on her Ipod touch, on the ride down and back. Worked perfact to MI and back a few months ago. I dont think anyone is going to have a rom or what ever you call it for the Nexus that bug free in 3 days.

rock on

I'm guessing AT&T and T-Mobile will get this phone shortly after Verizon but I wonder if Sprint will. My guess is no since there has been no info of a cdma/wi-max model.

As final as the 9th did. Negri Electronics is saying that they will ship today if they receive their stock in today, but only early pre-orders are likely to have theirs shipped. Did anyone pre-order from Negri?

This reminds me of one of my favorite Dave Matthews Lyrics...

Once upon a time
When the world was just a pancake
Fears would arise
That if you went too far, you'd fall

But with the
Passage of time
It all became more of a ball
We're as sure of that
As we all once were when the world was flat

Called a radio shack in my town and they had none, but if he had them he said he would have sold one to me!

Called a Verizon store and the first thing he said were all the rumors of a today launch were false to begin with and theat they have not been told when they will have it

I was thinking about getting ADW EX but then again, would I use it with the Gnex? Has anyone made up their mind on whether or not to use a launcher? I'll miss a lot of things LauncherPro gives me but I've decided to go with stock for a while once I get the Gnex and see how it works out.

In my market I see Go Launcher EX and ADW... I don't see an ADW EX

EDIT: I see it now: ADWLauncher EX

To answer your question:

I can't speak for ALL of us, but here's the primary reason why I prefer Android over iPhone:

Apple controls every aspect of the iPhone's environment. From the operating system to the apps available, they approve of everything. That makes it a great phone that WORKS... but it also limits customization, personalization and modification. Every iPhone basically looks and runs like every other iPhone. It's a walled garden... everything works, but it gets rather... boring.

Android is open-source. You can root it, overclock it, modify the guts of it, add apps that are off-market and truly make it a one-of-a-kind phone. If you get tired of the stock operating system, you can flash a custom ROM and completely change it out. I doubt anyone out there has a Droid that looks and works like mine does. It's the Wild West of cell phone tech: almost anything goes. That means the more you tinker and adjust, the more risk you run of messing something up... but that's half the challenge and fun (and why we have nandroid backups).

I hope that answered your question :)

I like to think of the Iphone as a point and shoot and (high end) android phones as SLR's. I have photography friends and this was the best way I could explain it to them.

The 15th has sounded like a realistic release date for a while. From a logistics standpoint, I remember there was talk around November 22 that the supply had not shipped to the US. Taking into account the shipping process, customs, warehouse stocking, then shipping to individual stores, the 15th makes sense. Especially since there have been plenty of Verizon stores that have them right now and plenty that do not and have not received their shipments yet. I'm really wondering if this is all a matter of waiting on supply to get to all of their stores. Then again I could be totally wrong. But, my prediction as of last month (on Androidcentral) was that we wouldn't see them go on sale until at least the 15th, but probably the week of the 22nd.

Here's to hoping it's the 15th... though my wife and I will be on a cruise for a week starting this Sunday. Hope everyone gets theirs!

We have to find a way to get Sam's pic that he actually got the phone, whether he returns it or not, to every media outlet and every phone news site. Keep the exact location and stuff a secret though. But maybe if VZW sees it and hears enough crap about it, they will issue a soft launch and we will all get the phone asap

any Radio-shack that i call is telling me its not for sale yet but it should be on Sunday, so as long as they don't get wind of the delay looks like i'll be checking in Sunday to see if they can sell it to me.

no way in hell i would return that sam max......what i would do is scour it all over the internet that the phone could be released since you have one and verizon is being ridiculous....then we would probably all get something from verizon.

Any chance we could get a pic, with a ruler or something in the background, showing the difference in thickness between the OEM and extended battery back covers?

Curious as to the real difference.

Thanks!

I just have the extended battery and case. No phone yet.

I'll take whatever pics of those 2 things that you want, but noting to compare against except a loaner Droid X.

I've been following this thread for a while, my first time posingt here. I thought I would share what I was told at my local verizon store today (not a corporate store). the Manager told me his wearhouse received their shippment in today, and the store will be receiving them on Monday. He told me that he will be able to sell them as soon as he has them in.

I work next to the store, and I know the manager fairly well, so I don't think he would flat out lie to me, but he may jsut be misinformed about being able to sell them immediately...

Either way I'll be back there at 9 on Monday morning...

And bring those chocolate chip cookies with you so you can at least go home with the cookies. Translation? You aint gettin no GNex on Monday despite what he said. ;)
