Here's my little story about the g-nex.
I called all the verizon's in my area and all of them said they had no date except for one and he said it was supposed to be the 9th but it was postponed indefinitely. They all confirmed having stock but no display models.
Hearing about success with BB mobile I called the one 3 minutes from my house and a very nice woman picked up the phone and said they had plenty in stock, nobody had asked about them yet, and she offered to let me come in and play with one for as long as I wanted.
When I got there I asked a man in the store and he said "you mean the Prime? Did we get those in yet?" asking a woman behind the counter, she nodded and came out with a white box and informed me i was the one who had spoken to her. They were both surprised of the name being the "Galaxy Nexus" so we referred to it as the Prime the entire time.
She opened it up, popped the battery in, took about 2 minutes trying to get the damn back cover on, powered it on, and handed it to me.
I cannot express how overjoyed I was, while my girlfriend who doesn't care about phones gave me "the look"
The phone felt amazing, I have always had iphone, 2g,3g, and 4 but I've grown sick of the UI and general lack of anything useful like working multitasking and notifications. The phone was much lighter than expected, holding it against my iP4 it was a feather. It was not as thick as it looked in pictures and can I say WOW the screen was clearer than I could imagine. I was wowed and so were the employees as they had not played with one before either. We joked about the tiny iphone in my hand as they showed me their bionics. We compared screen brightness and my dinky little phone was dull compared to the bright and rich screen of the nexus. I told them how I never tried android because of the lag I experienced with my dad's EVO 4g, I could complain no more.
ICS was buttery smooth. I was impressed, it was at least 5 times smoother than my jailbroken iP4 with a simple theme and HTC widget installed. I added all the widgets I could to the screens and it still refused to lag. The dropdown menu was responsive, and I was strangely satisfied with the slight haptic feedback I got when I touched the 3 on screen menu buttons at the bottom, as well as when I typed.
Speaking of typing the keyboard was fantastic, having used a 3.5 inch phone for the past however many years the massive 4.65 inch screen gave me no trouble typing, the keyboard was beyond accurate and the autocorrect was spot on. I could not test the voice typing because it had no network connection.
The phone was not as big as I expected, more long than anything, they both agreed.
I cannot believe how enjoyable the experience was, both of the employees were super nice to me and the lady even told me that when I called yesterday to ask about the release she said she checked and got an email saying that they were not to disclose any information about stock, let alone show anyone the phone. But they said "oh well" and showed me anyways.
After 30 minutes of this she said "Hey, when we can finally sell this thing, remember who broke the rules to let you play with it."
I won't forget, believe me. They will have my money.
