Help USB not connecting

LGOptimus17

Newbie
Sigh

My optimus wont connect to my computer. Now I've read online that it could be the driver (I've DLed the one listed here). Nothing happened. I know it's not the phone or the cable because it does connect... It just happens once every hundred years:mad:!

Any help with my problem will appreciated. I NEED my phone to connect to my computer. Music&Pictures are my life!

P.S. I've also read that FireFox had something to do with it not connecting? It may be useful so I thought I should mention it.

Go to the LG site, download the updater, once installed there is a menu option for drivers select optimus v and install the drivers from there. It walks you through itself.

And yes I do have windows. Specifically Windows 7.

Turn the phone off. Plug it in via USB. Turn the phone on. Theoretically, Windows should re-update the drivers and should then recognize your phone.

Just an FYI: Never leave the phone plugged in via usb while rebooting the computer. Windows will get stuck until you unplug the phone.

I use "dropbox" from the android market to transfer and cloud store music, photos, videos, sync up my password holding app. It's simple, free. could use more space but still pretty large. Very intuitive use.

Get a memory card reader and use that just make sure your phone is turned off before you take the card out and don't turn it on till you put it back in.

I like this. Thank you so much for telling me about it.

Now I have no clue what they mean when they ask for Host Name and such.
Once SSHDroid is up and running, you’ll see a line that looks sth like

Address: sftp://root@192.168.1.2:2222

The part between @ and :2222 (shown in italics above) is your phone’s IP address, which for the purposes of connecting via SSH, SFTP or SCP can be used instead of the host name.

The username is root, the port is 2222, the password is admin initially, but can and should be changed in the SSHDroid settings. Those 4 parameters are all you need to connect to your phone via SSH, SFTP, SCP.

I’ll close with a philosophical note …

Using Dropbox and similar proprietary solutions is fine in a pinch, but you might consider the following: SSH is an open protocol that is supported by tons of free, open-source software for every computing platform imaginable. It can always be used virtually anywhere, without having to rely on any company or other outside entity. With Dropbox and similar offerings, you’ll always be at the mercy of one company.

It’s kind of like never bothering to get your drivers license, because you’re confident you’ll always be able to get rides from friends. You may get around, but you’ll have a lot less freedom.

I used something very similar (not quite as good maybe) when I had a PC. I could transfer info and use a command prompt without having any cable tying the phone down to such a limited and set radius.
If you still occasionaly want to use the cable, try going to menu/settings/Applications/Development. Toggle USB debugging off and on as fast as you can. If that still doesn't work, or you just don't want to go back into your menu, unplug then plug phone back in several times until the computer recognizes your phone.

Personally, I never use a USB connection. MyPhoneExplorer works really well over WiFi, and is free. Highly recommended.

I use a combination of several things depending where I am and what my needs are; Dropbox, USB Cable, or a Micro SD Card Reader.

The USB connection within the Notifications menu worked just dandy for me before I installed Go Launcher Ex. But after I installed that, it disabled the Notifications menu alltogether. The only way I could get OV to recognize the USB and give me a notification to connect is by disconnecting and then reconnecting the cable. I thought that was stupid, so I uninstalled Go Launcher Ex. It consumes too much juice anyway.

Sorry i understand i was hijacking this thread... :(
