***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Users banned and put on probation, two thread locks while the cleaners were in action, no new news.

What we really want to know is if you got dinner last night or if you had to go to bed hungry? :p

Whew! At least I wasn't involved in the latest lockdown, for once.

I got dinner. We were going to go to Riva (my wife's favorite place) for dinner at Navy Pier, but some friends called and said they wanted to do something. The wife is someone who my wife hasn't seen in a couple of months, so she got excited and our dinner plans were canceled. We ended up ordering in Chinese, which I didn't mind.

Now of course I understand the politics behind all of it and wanting to have control over the whole beast that is NFC but would they really be losing money by having their customers choose between the two?

Yes. That's the whole answer. A lot of current and future $$$ is at stake, so you can expect them to fight to the death over it.

OK so I have a slightly selfish question/request. I actually had a review on my rezound published by HTCPedia.com - An Online Encyclopedia for HTC Users. I said that since the rezound and the g-nex have the same resolution (1280x720) and the gnex had a bigger screen that the rezound picture may very well be the better display (of course this is not taking into account the differences between samoled and slcd).

Would love to hear the thoughts of the G-nex elite:)
Here's my article: HTC Rezound Review

Hey, we have a famous author. Awesome!

Rezound will be sharper for two reasons: It has the same resolution at smaller size (equals higher DPI), and it also has traditional RGB subpixels instead of Nexus' PenTile RGBG (3 subpixels versus 2). But I think the sharpness issue is a wash, as I don't think most people will be able to detect jagged text or shape edges at such high resolutions.

OTOH, the Nexus' SAMOLED display will almost certainly have higher contrast and better brightness. Probably better viewing angles too, as the Rezound is fairly crummy when viewed other than head-on.

There are reports of slightly visible banding artifacts on some Nexus, but I suspect it's one of those things you wouldn't notice unless looking for it.

Wawa is better than Sheetz in many ways, but no matter what Sheetz does to try and top them Wawa will always win for one reason - Hoagiefest!

So are we allowed to be told why the thread was locked down in case we missed it to sleep or is it never to be spoken of again? PM would work for me if the latter is the case. :-)

I wouldn't mind knowing via PM either...thanks!

Hi guys - I'm hoping to switch over to VZW with a Galaxy Nexus someday...

I currently have an iPhone with ATT. My one problem is that VZW is expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. I'm hoping to forgo on the txt plan with VZW and use Gvoice instead; every $10/$20 counts...

My question is, I know Android is pretty well integrated with Gvoice... if I port my number over to Google, and then set it up on my new VZQ phone with a dummy number, how seamless is the experience? I would only want to use my Gvoice number -- does this mean that I can't use the native dialer and SMS client?

Given 4.0 is not out in the US yet, any thoughts from Gingerbread users or intl.'/unlocked 4.0 users would be highly appreciated!

Thanks

Jumping in for the first time today. Five Guys is ridiculously delicious, even if having one bag of their fries and a burger clogs my arteries until they're ready to burst. I'll give it a vote as better than In-N-Out and get a jump on those West Coasters!

Ah another DC res. I hit up the one in Columbia Heights wayyyy too often. Always ask for the fries extra crispy as they can be really soggy sometimes.
Been years since I lived in CA and went to In n Out. Shakes were always solid, and animal style was always a prerequisite for a good sandwich.

Excellent review, makes me want to take another look at the device with all this nonsense going on. That's saying something too. I'm not sure if you could have mentioned rooting in that article but I'm curious how that will play out. Guess I'll have to head to the AF for that. I really wouldn't want any phone at this point that wasn't rootable.

Thanks. Once again, very well written and informative article.

How did you buy them and not put them on your phone? I currently don't have an android phone and when I attempt to purchase the apps, it gives me the error "there is no android phone attached to this account". I am logged into google+ Any ideas?

You can't. :(. I even called google on that. Missing all these 10 cents apps due to delay

Welcome!
I never set up a new phone # as I have too many business contacts I didn't feel like changing with (hell, I've had the same number for 8years now when I lived in NC). The texting is super easy and GTalk is seamless for other Android and Gmail users (both free, GTalk more like IMing). Have to let someone else chime in on changing numbers. And welcome to the Android family :)

O.o

Looks like I missed a helluva night.
It looked like people had been having the most success with Radioshacks, so I called the only one that opened at 9 just now and I got as far as "Galaxy Nex-" when he cut me off and said there were none in stock.

Hm.

I asked if there had been some in stock and they sold out or if they never received any. He said the latter.

So either he was telling the truth, or more likely, Radioshack has been passing around the same memo as BestBuy, instructing employees not to disclose stock.
I'll try again when the other Radioshack opens at 10, but I think they've got it locked down now.

Yes but if we get a couple of good interceptions that give us a short field to work with, I think we'll be good. Also, can't discount the Devin Hester factor!

This is my last chance for any hope at a good ending for the season. If they can knock off the "mighty" Tebow, I'm hopeful. If not, forget it. At 7-6, they won't be going anywhere.
I'm with you. Personally can't stand Tebow. Go Bears! What about favre playing for them? lol
I think your request lost out to the Sheetz v. Wawa debate :)

I don't really have an opinion because I have never seen a SLCD display. I will say that my OG Droid's LCD dispaly is one of the sharpest that I have seen on any cell phone. Even compared to most phones that have come out in the past 2 years.
No idea what sheetz/wawa is! lol!
But the display on the rezound is 'rezoundingly' beautiful! (see what i did there) worth checking out. the display on both of these phones are/will be AWESOME!!

Thanks!! We don't have permanent root yet but its coming!!

So If I remember correctly 2 people, that we know of, were able to get a Nexus yesterday and keep it.

I bet that feels pretty good.

 HOLY MOLEY!!! I don't think I ever went over 2gigs!?!?!

Pics or it never happened! LOL!!! :D:D

I just read the review. Excellent job - I think as somebody mentioned in the comments, and you replied to, the only thing missing is a battery performance review. If I was not getting the Galaxy Nexus, I would already be a Rezound owner. It really is the best phone available right now IMHO.

I'm not sure if you can buy them without an android phone. I have a droid so it allows me to purchase the compatible ones without installing them. Anyone else have any idea?

OT (Bears):

Peter King on his Weekend Pickoff:

Why do sports writers always look at a football game as if it's one QB against another? What, do the QB's also play defensive end?

I don't think Tebow is coming out of this one unscathed. Our defense still has Peppers and Urlacher on it last time I checked.

I hope you are right. Bears are my Defense in my fantasy League. I have to win or there will be no money for the Nexus until next year.
