KL1 modem

Just noticed XXKL1 modem is available in the checkrom kitchen.
It's not marked as new but is right down the bottom of the list and I've never noticed it before.
Is anyone on here from th UK in particular using this?
If so, how are you finding it in terms of 3g signal, wifi etc

I'm finding it very good so far in terms of phone signal and browsing on wifi.
Not done any 3g browsing yet tho...

I'm finding KL1 modem very good so far to be honest.
getting good reliable signal on both 3g and wifi, and speeds seem very good.
I'll stick with it for now...

Same here. It's the only one that gives me a strong signal in my apartment, so I don't have to keep manually switching to 2G

Speeds are as fast as any of the others I have tried

At the weekend I was in a pub which is a notorious black spot for any carriers signal, not necessarily a bad thing I might add, and for which I could not previously get a connection.

However, with KL1, I was able to successfully get one bar of 3G signal, thus dispelling my original thought that maybe KL1 was mis-reporting signal strengths.

In my tests with SpeedTest, I have managed some of, if not the best, download and upload speeds.

IMHO, definitely worth installing. :)

I will give it a go at work tonight cause i have black spot in my office except 2 places... but as far as now it seems to be good as at home where i had 3 bars before now have 4 :)

Not surprised at that.

The modem is an XX version which is European.

China and Hong Kong require a ZC version, if available, I believe.

actually it doesnt matter unless u r using some specific bands. i'm using eu's roms and modems for more than a year so i know that it's not stick to ZS

Oh right... it just seems strange that you are experiencing this problem which is not being reported in Europe.

I must say that my GPS signal has never been better.

Can this modem only be flashed on rooted phones? Can I put this on my KK5 build using ODIN without being rooted? if so, do you know where I can find an ODIN bin files? I found one file but it said you had to flash with CWR which is for rooted phones I think??

Agree strong. Also seem to have a sudden improvement in battery. I live in an area with poor coverage so presume that could be why if signal stronger?? Anyway very happy with it

Just flashed KL1 and got a marked improvement in reception... I'm hoping this will knock-on to improved battery efficiency.

3 bars where I usually only get intermittent network service is pretty impressive, cheers for the heads up chaps. :)

Finally got around to flashing this using CWM recovery. I find it more stable on the train ride home (only cuts out twice instead of four times!). Was on KI4 before.

Its a bit hit and miss for me. When it works its quick but I keep loosing reception and the browser hangs. I guess its a 3 uk thing.

Is there a specific link for this yet butty, or is it only available bundled in that ICS leak of the firmware?

I can tell that you're chomping on the bit hawker old son! :D

I'd be interested in giving it a whirl as a flashable .zip.

I've just flashed the kp1 modem. I couldn't find a link so I extracted it from the firmware. I wouldn't recommend flashing it with mobile odin as it resulted in baseband unknown. For a second I thought I'd screwed my efs but flashed it through regular odin and alls good. At the moment it doesn't seem much different to ki3

You can get CWM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=816370&d=1323869933

tried it with KK5 rom...GPS WIFI and DATA much better/faster then KI3, KI4 and KL1

Nice one Assamiea! :)

Well, in the true tradition of this forum... I couldn't resist having a quick flash! :D

Here are the, unscientific, results of 3 tests on each modem for KL1 and KP1 using Speed Test from the Market.

Below are the screenies from the best of each run:-

Not a lot in it as you can see.

The 3 runs produced the following download speeds:-

KL1... 6.00, 5.89, 6.72

KP1... 5.57, 6.30, 6.87

The choice is yours!

I'm not too impressed with the battery on the kp1 modem. I'm about 15% lower than usual. Back to good old trusted ki3 I think.
