Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

Weird, I got a score of 6040 a few days ago running it on CheckROM 3.1.1, Beta6 with lulactive 100-1200Mhz and applying the default voltage presets. Then today I just decided to give it another go but this time set the cpu to 100-1600Mhz changing nothing else and returned a score of 5487..

Same thing happened to me when I first overclocked. Try setting it from lulz to Performance and maybe do it from a reboot.

Also, DAMN YOU IRONASS I JUST INSTALLED 2.5!! :D

Edit: Installed, works fine, etc... *grumbles* :P

Oh do behave! 2.5 is so yesterday! :D

Actually, if you don't undervolt your kernel, there's no need to install it.

It's OK for you Kie, it's 2pm. Here it's 6am!

Can't wait to see how many of the UK lads will be gobbling their breakfast down and trying to install this update before rushing off to work. :)

Just barely yesterday for me! If I was over east it would be sooo today!

Sadly, I knew that before installing, but could not help it! So much for sticking for 2.X integers. I'm sure if 2.5.1.1 came out I'd install it:

Proposed release notes for Siyah GT 2.5.1.1p att XS:
If you go to Settings->Wireless and Network->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names, left contact button, New APN->Proxy, you'll see that the default input method is the letter keyboard. Since the proxy is almost always a number, we've changed it to the number keypad, for your convenience :)

Note: That's actually something I've noticed that should be fixed, but probably on a rom rather than a kernel.

Hopefully .1 will solve another strange problem I had. If I was using lulzactive my phone would'nt charge. Everything looked normal, it said it was charging on my lockscreen and my battery icon was doing its thing. But the % in the icon went down instead of up. Everything worked fine with the other governors though.

Wowsers, the phone did not like that at all! It went into a continuous boot loop after I started the test in AnTuTu. Lucky the reboot didn't happen immediately and after the third or so time, I managed to quickly open SetCPU and switch it back to my original settings. :D

Having said that the first thing I did was run AnTuTu to compare v2.5 + lulzactive vs v2.4.2 now that v(r) is the default governor. :)

You were using VR io scheduler for 2.5. What io scheduler were you using for 2.4.2? Were you using lulzactive governor for both kernels? What were your results?

V(r) also.

Were you using lulzactive governor for both kernels?

I did initially use lulzactive with v2.5, so as to do a fair comparison vs v.2.4.2.

What were your results?

I didn't keep note of the exact figures as I was simply looking for any obvious problems, but a three-run-average score was (iirc) around 20 less than the same scheduler/governor on v2.4.2. Imo that's close enough to say there's no difference.

Thanks for your feedback. What is your feeling regarding battery life of 2.5 vs 2.4.2?

Too early to say yet really, especially when I've switched governor too. There's no way I can use today as an example, 'cos right now I'm caning the battery testing the stability of a modified frequency table.

SiyahKernel v2.5.2b (placebo-edition)
Posted on December 14, 2011
(b stands for battery)

Changelog:

fixed scaling_max_frequency reverting back to stock (1200MHz) for samsung roms. you will be able to use voltage control app without manually editing the generated script or use any other init.d script to set scaling_max_frequency.
increased the total battery life about 10% (this is the placebo part ). Kernel parameters are tweaked to increase battery life while keeping antutu benchmark score ~6000 with 200-1200MHz.
default governor is set to ondemandx (with default screen of sleep profile of 500MHz)
default i/o scheduler is sio

10% is quite a claim. Will be interesting to test (which would eliminate the placebo effect either way!)

My first thought when I saw... "SiyahKernel v2.5.2b (placebo-edition)", was that gokhanmoral's 'aving a larf!

Early days yet but I'm finding Siyah GT Edition 2.5.1 to be very battery friendly for my use. Nothing, so far, indicates that this won't be a winner for me... early days yet though. :)

Agreed. So far I've found 2.5.1 to be very acceptable. If 2.5.2 is 10% better on the juice then I'll be all over that puppy like a gold-digger at a millionaire's party.

i dont know is it this kernel but sth happened to my phone... :D i used siyah 2.5 and installed ICS 1.6 theme and now my phone is so FAST and SMOOTH as it was NEVER before! i have to say i`m amazed! and seriously dunno what happened cause its to big diffrence comparing to speed with 2.4.2 but anyway, im delighted with it now! and battery friendly as well! :)

Is any 1 else having prolems with the version i keep trying to put it on but my phone said im on 2.4.1 still

are you flashing via the checkrom kitchen by any chance butty bach?
if so, either flash it manually by going into CWM recovery, or delete the clockworkmod folder on your EXTERNAL SD card and try again

hwyl fawr i chi.
