So for those who have the Nexus are you able to add custom sounds (ringtone/notifications)?

On ginger you add it to the ext SD card by creating and audio folder etc. since this Nexus has no SD card how are you able to add these?

Thanks...

WATTT? i thought with android it was insanely easy, just click a track and set as ringtone, wow u telling me its locked down? iphone is INSANE hassle to make a ringtone, dammit no way, somenoe verify man

Yeah if you can't do it easy might have to rethink this whole 4.x thing. :(

....also with the new People App can you assign different ringtones to each of your contacts?

I just tried googling how to add ringtones to galaxy nexus, pretty much NOTHING. wow. someone HAS to have put out how to do this?

When you plug the phone into your PC there are several directories already created, including ringtones and notifications. Just copy some audio files into them and they'll appear in the ringtones selection. Haven't tried directly from the phone yet but I wouldn't foresee any problem.

You can assign different ringtones to different contacts, and you can assign custom non-system ringtones as well:

- Open Astro or another file explorer
- Place ringtone into /sdcard/Media/ringtones
- Open People
- Open contact
- Set ringtone (the ringtone should appear in the selection of choices)

^ Works perfectly, except the ringtones directory was just in /sdcard for me, but /sdcard/media works too apparently.

Gotcha, missed the /sdcard/ringtones directory. I think I'll use that as it's a cleaner file tree than /sdcard/media/ringtones. There seems to be some redundancy in the setup under /sdcard for various audio file locations.

I had it setup under /media with my N1 as well and I agree, it looks cleaner.

I just wanted to bump this as it released today in America ( I LOVE IT SO MUCH, WORTH THE WAIT) and I know I was wondering about this. When people bring it home there will likely be many people curious how to set custom ringtones, so it will be good to have this front page.

This works for ringtones, but if I try to set an alarm, it won't show my custom mp3s. Any ideas?

Handcent has a built in ringtone selector which let's you pick pretty much any audio file on your phone. It can replace the stock ringtone selector.

Edit: Handcent is a messaging app that just happens to have the above feature.

That's the sdcard directory. It acts exactly like an sdcard. With file managers on the phone it's at /mnt/sdcard.

It appears as /mnt/sdcard on a phone file explorer app like astro which I use. But under windows it's galaxy nexus>internal storage

trying to create notification tones to my contacts through astro on my samsung galaxy s3 i have tried but not getting anywhere,it goes into mnt/sdcard/music the ringtones are there but cant add them as notification tones, hope someone can put me on the right track thank you
