Google Wallet - No Root Needed :)

So.

I'm trying to figure out what the big advantage of this is? What's the difference between using this and just using an ordinary credit card? Seems like if you don't already have a Citi M/C with PayPass, it's more work as you have to re-load the account all the time.

It's definitely not more work. You load it once and are good to go for many purchases. I'm not saying this is an extreme shortcut by any means, but anything that reduces the amount of time I have to be in the store and/or at the cash register, is a plus in my eyes. Plus it's just kind of a neat "new age" take on spending money. It's simple, fast and makes the person behind you jealous... what more do you need? lol...

I'm kinda concern that if you lose your phone and someone gets it they can just use it to buy things with it? Now I'm sure most people don't know about it but some do. I do have the phone to be unlock by pin but it's still a concern. Is there a way to force an addition pin on it to make purchases?

I own a Verizon GNexus and the link works fine. I haven't used it as of yet, but the download was simple.

Thanks to the developer!!

One huge advantage is that there has been a lot of talk of banks starting to charge fees every time you use your bank debit card to make a purchase come January. If your bank is one that decides to do this load up the prepaid debit card in Google Wallet with funds to make your purchase so that when you buy a candy bar for a $1 it's costing a dollar and not a dollar plus fees.
I'm pretty sure the prepaid cards don't have the fees since that would pretty much destroy their usability.

There is an additional GW pin that has to be entered before it works I think. Thats what the GW website explained. Am I wrong?

Had to eat today at McD's because it's the only place that takes paypass around here. Ugh.

Gave me a nice laugh!
I tried using it last night at CVS to get some milk, but it didn't work. Perhaps I was just too impatient. Also, need to figure out how to manage my account online (use a MC from USAA). There's quite a few places in DC that take it, though not many I frequent.

Ok so please confirm this.
1. get products
2. wake and unlock screen or just wake?
3. no need to open the GW app
4. Does it beep or something letting you know its paid for does something come up on the screen?

When you install directly from phone browser do you have to link a credit card? Or can you use the free 10 dollar card to first try it out?
Thanks for any info.

1. yes
2. I unlocked, but probably just wake, retesting again today after I loaded $100 last night
3. Correct
4. At wawa, the speed pass thing beeps and glows green, and my phone vibrates/beeps.. you'll know.

You get the $10 regardless if you've provided any CC info. I made my first purchase with the $10 only, and loaded another $100 later that night

Has anyone tried this with a TPU case or any other case for that matter? Or was the GNex naked?

And I'm really not surprised this leaked this early. No way vzw takes away the nfc capabilities if Google wallet lol. Shit, Google released this themselves!

Works with the holster.

Tried the above apk and loads fine on VZW GNex. Have not paid with it yet, definitely loads fine on phone. does not need root.
Noob question here: how do you install 3rd party apps on the Nexus without rooting?I know that for WebOS you can load the apk into quickinstaller. Is there a smililar tool? New to Android here. Thanks.

You need an app like Astro file manager. Once you download/copy to your phone, use Astro to find the file and it will ask what you want to do. Choose install. Since this is a "3rd party" app, it will ask you to check the box to install apps from an "unknown source."

I've used Google Wallet a few times now at some different locations of a gas station chain that accepts paypass.

It going to be a while before you can pay for things with a phone and people don't look at you like you just stepped out of a spaceship.

I tried this at WaWa this am and it didn't work. I then noticed I didn't set any card as my default card. I'll have to try it again on my next trip.

I used it to buy gas at Meier last night. Added $40 with my credit card and everything worked just fine. App is a little laggy, but no issues using it. To side load apps on the Nexus, the easiest way is to enable apps from unknown sources in the security tab in settings, navigate to the download link on the phone and then tap on the file in the notification pane when it is downloaded. It will prompt to install and you'll be all set.

My understanding is that this is for 4.0.2., and does not include the GSM model. :(

I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus (V. 4.0.1) and I installed the GW with no problems. I got my $10.00 from Google, but I haven't yet loaded any additional funds nor have I tried to use it to pay for anything yet. I think I will venture out today and buy something with it.
