Help random restart

has anyoner ever had their phone randomly just restart for no reason.. it was istting their downloading content for an HD game and it just.. restarted
 
I've had mine randomly restart while streaming Pandora in the car while charging about 4 times now.

Also had mine randomly restart/lock-up trying to access the camera from the lock screen while holding the phone horizontally (Never gets to camera app, hangs at homescreen).
 
Unfortunately, that's one of the 'glitches' most smartphone users have to deal with with these devices. Not a biggie - unless it happens like every two minutes or so.
 
I've been experiencing occasional lockups/crashes while listening to Pandora too. Probably happens once every hour o two. It's pretty annoying because I listen to Pandora pretty much all day, everyday.
 
I had thr random reboot bug last week as well. I was told it *could* be light flow and i should uninstall that. (I did.) Mine seemed to happen while using wifi, and I also read that wifi bootlooping is a known issue and that currently the only fix was a factory reset. (After backing everything up to Google that can be backed up.) With the subtraction of light flow and the reset, I have yet to experience it again.
 
Yeah, it's happened to me twice since launch. Not bad. My old Dx would do it twice a day. I think at some level, it's just the cost of doing business with these sorts of devices.
 
Yesterday I installed the google voice app and 20 minutes later it rebooted. About 4 hours later in rebooted again. I uninstalled the app and so far I haven't any further reboots, however it's only been 24 hours. Those were my first and only reboots.
 
Coming from an iOS user (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad), this is a really annoying problem. None of my iOS devices had ever randomly restarted. Only the old 2nd gen iPod touch had frozen on me and I had to do a hard reset. It's another story with the Nexus. In less than 3 weeks, it randomly restarted 5 or more times: while streaming pandora/charging in the car; while browing with stock broswer; while trying to opening an app (Yahoo fantasy NBA)... The nexus would suddenly shut down, and restart itself 5 seconds later. I have never rooted my phone and everything is stock. It's very disappointing that the stock ICS can be this unstable. I can deal with the non-smooth scrolling, but this random restart business is driving me nuts.
 
Yup. I hate it really. My Droid X did it too. I was convinced my phone knew when I was getting off a certain exit on the highway because it would always reboot right then.

I've had my Nexus since 12/23 and it has randomly rebooted about 4 times. Not a lot of times but it irks me every time.
 
Not once. Pandora stops playing when changing signals. Google music stops randomly while skiing, maybe it is a shock sensor or static? Screen is locked. Boot loader is locked.
 
Happened to me today while streaming Google Music from "the cloud". My kids get a kick out of that phrase. It's like God is sending us good tunes to groove to. :-)
 
Update: My phone rebooted again without Google Voice installed. It was about two days after uninstalling.

It rebooted in the middle of typing using "talk" and after just being disconnected from the charger.

I do have light flow installed. I wonder if removing it would stop the random restarts/crashes? It could be a change of signal as others have mentioned too. I've had about 3 restarts all in the same general area and it might be where the 4G/3G line is.

Can anyone else testify to restarts at 4G/3G lines?
 
well i dont have any launcher installed and it did it to me.. i was just wondering if anyone else had it cause this was the first time
 
I guess this is the price of having a Nexus with the most recent software. I'm sure these issues will be worked out soon though. My Incredible never had any random reboots unless I was using beta/experimental/nightly ROMs. Just wait a month for some more official OTAs or more stable ROMs.
 
Mine rebooted this morning after I used the volume rocker to snooze my alarm. If it weren't for the vibrate noise against my nightstand when the Google boot logo appears, I would have been late for work.

My nexus was in a constant reboot this morning, i actually missedmy alarm because of it.

Pulled battery started again and same thing. Took it to bell and they declared it DOA, got a new 1 for free and even convinced sales guy to let me keep old battery + new 1.
 
I've had this take place a number of times, though I can't reproduce it with any regularity. The most notable times, though, were when I was entering content into evernote and it rebooted before I could save. That was pretty annoying, especially as it occurred twice.
 
I've had mine reboot twice since owning it (bought it on launch day), both times were with a custom ROM.

You were lucky, then. I owned 3 iOS devices and all of them would reboot or freeze sometimes, some more than others. In speaking with people at work and friends, that's not completely uncommon.

Since owning Android devices, I'd estimate I get about 25% more reboots/freezes than on iOS. Not 25% of the time, mind you, just 25% more than on iOS. So for every 4 reboots of my iOS devices, I might get 5 on an Android device. Pretty minor, IMO.

At least none of my Android devices have completely crashed, requiring me to install an iTunes backup in recovery mode that was a week old :mad:
 
My first G-Nex rebooted about 4 times in a 5 day span. So I took it back to the store for a replacement. The first two times it did it while I was playing around in the Google Maps application (while on WiFi at home), just scrolling around, zooming in/out to see how smooth it was on my phone. Then it did it once at work (on 3G) while I was just typing up an e-mail. So it didn't seem to correlate to what type of connection I was in or what app I was using. Though it may be a rogue app, even a core Google app that my need to be fixed/updated. Hopefully Google acknowledges this and is able to fix or at least minimize this issue in future updates.

It seems that this is an issue with a majority of Android based phones though. My old Droid definitely had this issue throughout its lifespan of updates. To me, it just seems that Android is still not quite as stable as other mobile OS's (WP7, iOS and BB), but as long as it's not too intrusive to everyday functions, it's easy to deal with esp. along with everything else Android offers.

FWIW, my replacement G-Nex has only re-booted once in the last two weeks. Can't remember what I was doing when it rebooted though.
 
I uninstalled Light Flow for troubleshooting purposes and forgot to restart last night. On the way to work this morning my Gnex restarted while streaming pandora and charging. About 20 mins later down the road it restarted again while streaming pandora and charging.

Might be something with Pandora + ICS.

Device: Verizon Gnex (Stock)
 
Once: Dunno why.. I kinda expect these things from ...
a) Complex electronics & software anyway....
b) Newly released stuff...
c) ICS first major devices...

Hopefully it'll settle down after a few updates... if not, p***d off time...

PS 30+ years in IT taught me, it ain't IF it will go wrong it's WHEN it will go wrong.,....

Mine restarted Monday evening when I was browsing Amazon.com with the stock browser in a store with strong 4G signal.
 
I've been getting random reboots for a while (got a thread on it a few pages back). They're uncommon, but lately the last few were all while playing with the EQ in the Google Music player. It seems certain actions are more likely to trigger the random reboot... and I really hope that means it's a software problem.
