And to OTD's comment, the version handed to Sprint for the Hero will be different than the one given to Verizon for the Eris. They are not making just one OS mod for all carriers as far as I know. The version handed to Verizon should have been tested on the Verizon network by HTC prior to being declared "done" in Barcelona.
I know Verizon has always done it this way, and will continue to do it. But it still frustrates the hell out me!![]()
Yes! This was one of my concerns. I've become so intoxicated with Swype that if 2.1 broke it on my phone, I wouldn't be able to rest until I had it again.Dialer, probably not. Since there's history and personal info there I don't feel comfortable posting it.
I'm using Swype but may be able to get a sample of the stock kb in use. Haven't noticed any lag on it so far.

Are you using the same, uh... *swashbuckling* version that we all are?

Sending...Is there any chance that one of you could email the *swashbuckling* version of the swype apk to j.c.sugrue at gmail dot com? I did factory reset, not realizing that it has disappeared from the planet. Thanks.

You guys probably knew this was coming, but how do you get it?

It was posted in a blog post and on another forum a while back. The links came down because even though it was never really meant for our phones it is pirated software.
I hear that. But I guess as a consumer I would expect to be handed a working product, especially if i had special ordered it, as Verizon has done. If my business had special ordered a piece of software, i would certainly expect it to have been tested thoroughly on my network before it was handed off to me as "complete." If it is not, they would not get my business any more.
NKT, you forgot "Deactivate reliable You Tube app functionality" for the 2nd update, LOL.
I tried Swype and it was fun, worked well but not as fast as the regular keyboard for me.
OK back to your regularly scheduled thread...

-The funny thing to me is that the people that usually get the most impatient for an OS update are the first ones to raise hell when it doesn't work 100%. I'm not implying in anyway that this describes you, I have just noticed it over the years. With BlackBerry, everyone would yell for them to release the update. When a carrier did release it a bit earlier the same group would start a bitch fest about how much it sucked. It has always cracked me up.

So you'd expect HTC to replace your phone out of their own pockets if the update bricks it?And, for the record, I would not blame Verizon for a problem i feel rests with the HTC Sense mod of 2.1.
I know Verizon is just doing the same old CYA moves as every other carrier. And, for the record, I would not blame Verizon for a problem i feel rests with the HTC Sense mod of 2.1. As I have said before, I expect HTC, who made the phone, to be able to make sure any modified OS worked well with it before giving it to Verizon as a finished product. They did the original 1.5 mod too and should know the hardware and network parameters they are working with.
I recognize this is the industry standard way of doing things. But i still find it mindboggling that any company would not demand a finished product that worked out of the box without further testing. If Ford sells me an upgraded engine for my Explorer, I expect it to fit and function perfectly right out of the box. It better, or I certainly will not be buying a Ford product ever again. (I know you hate car analogies)![]()
