Help Can't upgrade to Gingerbread.

When it says rebooting to install, my phone never reboots, and no it's not rooted, I unrooted the phone.

I'm confused on how to do that. You said do step 2, but that is to unroot the phone. And I renamed 5059e5b6c5b2.OTA_Incredible_C_Gingerbread_S_VERIZO N_WWE_4.08.605.2-3.26.605.1_release_222220.zip to update.zip and nothing happened.

Oops sorry, meant just step 4.
Did you boot into recovery like instructed and have the file on the root of your SD card?

I just set to factory default and now I have Gingerbread, but is there a way to root the phone now that I have it?

Yes you can follow the steps outlined here:
http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-2-3-4-root-downgrade-s-off.html

I can not emphasize enough that you need to follow the steps EXACTLY or you will run into problems.

Alternatively htc just added support for their official unlocking tool. It will allow you to easily unlock your boot loader and obtain root access by flashing a recovery image and super user.

The first method I linked is a complete root and unlock method and allows for easier recovery of a soft bricked phone, however the official HTC method will fit most users needs.
Scotty does a good job explaining the difference here:

Ok I did the HTC method, the stupid instructions could have told me what way to connect to PC, charge only, HTC sync, disk drive, turned out had to be on internet connection mode for some reason, windows was installing some things, now how do I root the phone? I was going through the steps and when it starting talking about the sdk manager then I ran into this error.

Oh great now my phone won't even turn and when I plug it into the PC, it has a blinking orange light, and I also pulled the battery out and nothing.

Sounds like you have a dead battery (usually what the blinking orange light means). I'd try pulling the battery for about 30 seconds and turning back on

It's working now but why won't the SDK manager install these files?

I haven't been through htc's method to unlock the bootloader yet, so I can't give a definitive answer.

But the first thing that comes to mind when looking at your screen shot; why is it trying to install Sony drivers?

I keep getting this. I don't know why it says revision 10, right there cause I have SDK Manager revision 16. This is very confusing.

Downloading Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 10
Failed to create directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows\temp
Done. Nothing was installed.

Are you logged in as an administrator on your computer? It looks like you need revision 10 to be installed.

Or is the sdk already installed? Do you have Adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, look in \android-sdk-windows\platform-tools?

Yes, so I have to downgrade to revision 10? But you said you never used HTC's method, maybe you know someone else around here who used their method?

The guy who wrote the downgrade method I linked you to has used it, but I was just guessing based off the error that was returned on your computer.

I found AdbWinApi.dll but not adb.exe, all I see in the sdk-windows\platform-tools is aba.

Head to the first lost I linked you too (the one for 2.3.4 root and downgrade) you will find a download for "mini adb" that should give you what you need.
I don't think I want to downgrade, would really like the HTC method to work.

No need to downgrade just download the mini adb, it has the adb.exe file you are missing.

Under step one where it says download these files, just download the mini adb inc file and grab the adb.exe file from it and copy it to the appropriate folder.
Code:
To find adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, look in \android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
To find fastboot.exe look in \android-sdk-windows\tools
(per the instructions from htc, the 3 files should go into C:\Android)
