Help Bad update applied, leaving bugs ?!

My Desire came with driod 2.2 pre-loaded when I got my plan. But I have a few issues that drive me nuts and HTC have replied telling me that it is because an update was applied badly and I need to factory restore the phone and re-apply the update.

The issues I have are:

  • When typing a message sometimes the selected message I am replying to will become unselected and I will be back at the very first message in the stack.. This can be 100's back sometimes and the only way to get back to the correct message to see what I am replying to is to scroll endlessly back down the stack and reselect it!
  • And the second item that happens a great deal of the time is, once I have typed a message in reply to someone, I try and send it and the phone states I have not selected a recipient to send it to. I then have to 'Cut All' the text from the message, exit the message, reselect the message and paste/send to get it to work!

Drives me nuts!!

Anyone else ever had these issues? And how the hell can I revert the version back so I can re-apply 2.2, as a factory reset does nothing?

A factory reset wouldn't do anything, i think the only way would be to use a RUU, that would install a fresh rom of which ever version you choose, could even go Gingerbread.

I would look into the option of an RUU.

Thanks Tyseyh, no idea what a RUU is yet. I have only briefly looked into rooting my phone, but I may look more seriously once I get my Prime.

It's nothing to do with rooting.
A RUU is a Rom Update Utility.
I believe they come as .exe files and are pretty simple to use, though that is from word of mouth as I haven't used one myself.

The RUU is a tool to Reflash your phone to complete stock completely over writing your current ROM.
It's kind of like, the ultimate factory reset, if you will.

Edit : Auto Correct.

Ohhh... that sounds interesting. And where would I find information about such RUU's Tyseyh? Do they have to be compatible with your providers rom? If that is the correct term, i.e. T-Mobile UK?

I think shippedroms. Com has them, you don't need to get your own providers if you have a gold card, but that's another story, to keep things simple, use your network providers one.

Ah, ok Tyseyh. I shall check them out when I get time. Now Gold Cards I do kind of know about, but like you say lets keep it simple. :p

HTC have an update on their website for this phone, i've myself used it,it will takr your 2.2Froyo to 2.3 Gingerbread, a simple update and you'll be good to go.:)

Thank you Matt. I am aware of the update, but with Sense on my phone I hear that you will loose some apps by using this update. But it would seem the biggest issue is that your internal memory is 2/3's full after applying the patch making your phone a nightmare to use.

its quicker to download roms from shipped-roms even the htc 2.3.3 rom is there
if you use a download manager like freedownload manager you will find it even faster to download them

Thanks Rastaman. I've had a look it would seem they are all Verizon, which is a U.S provider? Will any of these work with a UK T-Mobile phone or will I need a Goldcard?
