Help RAM Usage issue

It's difficult to identify the leaky app when the leak rate is low.
I've got something leaky but it only adds to the RAM used at <2MB per hour, sometimes <1MB/h.

I just rebooted after hundreds of hours continuous use and the used ram dropped from 600MB to 284MB.

Eliminating the culprit by uninstalling could take months!

If there were something to monitor individual RAM usage per app in realtime then perhaps it might show up.
Is there such an app?

Hi guys
I got my Samsung Galasy S II GT-I900G about a month ago, I've been turning it off every night so that It can charge. Like a week ago for some reason I didnt and in the middle of the next day the RAM got to about 560MB/0.91GB and then after a while it got stuck while i was sending an SMS. I had to take the battery out and and turn it on for it to start working again. I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer or phone user. I dont know why my phone would do this. I have deleted all my apps and still the same problem so its definetly not a leaky app. It gets stuck and then i have to take the battery out !
My phone has 2.3.4 android version
If you need any other information, let me know and i'll post it... But PLEASE help me.
I'm desperate here

Did you recently update? What did you use? Hopefully you didn't use the wrong one since I noticed you are using the 'G' version of SGS2. Might have to fix that first if you did.

Anyway, if you are willing to uninstall all the apps, then best is to do a factory reset. Off the phone. ON back the phone by pressing POWER+HOME+VOL UP simultaneously. You should go into a screen that allows for factory reset. Navigate using the volume buttons and the home key.

Cheers

PS-You should also be able to do it in the settings somewhere. Can't recall where. Probably in the Privacy place. There is also a code that can be typed in the dialpad. But the top is the common method.

Yeah I've been toying with the idea of doing a had reset but I dont want to lose all my conversations and contacts and stuff... :(
and no since I got the phone I haven't updated any updates of the software

Kies is a little picky, but if you manage to connect to Kies, then you can backup messages, contacts, etc. If you need to backup (big) data files, those can be done via USB connection to the PC.

The real problem is the apps. A lot of trouble to reinstall and set up everything again. I did it once when didn't have many apps. Don't want to have the hassle again with so many apps now. With root, you can backup apps as well.

Regards

Settings/Privacy, and enable "Backup my data". After a reset, once logged-in to your Google account your previously-installed apps will be reinstalled from the Market.

@Awesomenesof96: I'd definitely advise a reset. Something isn't behaving correctly and this will either (hopefully) correct it or, if it persists, tell you that it's something requiring attention from Samsung.

Contacts are backed up to your Google/Gmail account by default, unless you've disabled it. If so you can export contacts to SD card from the menu within the Contacts app. SMS require a third-party app to back them up.

I managed to backup the contacts, messages, memos etc with Kies. So if you can get Kies to work, then that works. If you can't get Kies, I guess you have to look in the market for an app that can do it. Like slug said, you can sync your contacts with google so it can be saved online.

As for updating, maybe you should try the reset first and see if the problem goes away. And you really have to be careful about which firmware you used in the sense that yours is the "G" version. This thread has the info required;

And Slug, I know about Google having a list of my downloaded apps and will reinstall after reset. The issue is the hassle of doing it. Imagine the amount of data that it will consume, specially if wi-fi is not available.

Cheers
