Verzion Nexus Car Dock

I read the 3 pins are for charging and notifying the phone that it is plugged into the dock so it can start the Bluetooth on the phone. The phone then communicates via Bluetooth to the dock and sends audio to the audio jack on the dock (the real GSM style dock that is).

The link below is to a thread about an inductive charging hack that uses these pins. The only problem is nobody knows how to convince the phone is can fast charged with the 3 pin connector. If you connect +5V and Ground like the hack shows it will slow charge.

Isn't there someone here who "imported" a GSM version? Or someone close to Canada? Not that I don't trust the photoshop side-by-side, but I'd rather see an actual side-by-side.

For the record, somebody out there with both was nice enough to measure and the pins DO, in fact, line up fine. The dimensions look reasonably promising, but we obviously can't know for sure if it will work until it comes out.

Anyone think that the delay in the accessories being released could be Samsund making minor adjustments to make sure they work with both phones since they are so similar. I mean those that were sent out for places to do a review could be prototypes almost that were not made from the final tooling which would allow for Samsung to be making changes. I almost feel like the longer they are delayed the better the chance is we will be able to use the more expensive car dock. Maybe Verizon just demanded a cheap car dock to be ready with release so Samsung just made them that piece of crap.

So, who's going to bite the bullet and buy the 3-pin version in 10 days? Anybody pre-order? I've already been screwed by mobilecityonline into buying a second one without the 3-pin connector (was able to return the one from Verizon), so I'd rather get confirmation before buying. What was the thickness difference between the LTE and GSM versions? .5 mm or something like that? I already notice that the "non-pinned" version that I have already doesn't allow the phone to sit flush with the dock, so I'm thinking this one will be the same.

I picked up the verizon car mount yesterday and it blows...capturing video from it has this horrible squeak from the rubber they use...you cant hear it in person, but only on the videos...if youre using this as an in car video mount....its (the dock version as well) isnt going to work for your audio.... Ive remounted and retightened...its just really squeaky...note that I do have an extended battery.

heres todays test

Guys, as I mentioned in a different thread a while back, the pads do nothing on the VZ version of the GNEX. Even if someone designed a dock that fit it, it wouldn't work. There is no software support for the pins. I have intimate knowledge on this.

This is exactly how the Nexus One worked. It has the same three pins. Probably the dock would work with a GN, if you could manage to get the GN into a N1 dock. Hmmm...

You can see the dock detection code in the kernel source, BTW.

Since the pins will not afford charging, it is pointless IMHO. Also, proof that the dock detection code in the kernel actually goes anywhere or does anything remains to be seen. If it detects it but doesn't launch an app or connect to Bluetooth, what's the point?

Ok, assuming the dock does use BT to transfer audio, a related question:

Can you connect to 2 BT devices at once? Right now I use a BT handsfree speaker in my car (Blueant S3 I think) and also use wired audio to listen to podcasts/music. I've never heard of 2 connections via BT being possible, but also never tried. This dock would be fairly worthless if the audio connection is BT based, at least in the US with all the handsfree laws.

ps installing original battery and original battery cover tonight on the commute home to see if that resolves the audio squeak regarding recording on this mount (mounts are made the same so seems logical to think it would have same issue on mount\dock).

still does it..not battery related, its either material of mount related or related to the cheap plastic battery cover making noise under microvibrations.

It should be able to do what you want it to do. Just make sure that one bluetooth connection has media audio enabled and the other is set to phone audio.

Have we gotten any new word on when this dock or the landscape dock are to be released?
I just checked Expansys USA and they have a new expected arrival date:

Release Date: Wednesday 15th February 2012

That's for the car dock - the non-Verizon one.

As I understood it the comparability with the LTE version wasn't confirmed so it might work. Wait and see I guess

the one on expansys to (i believe)
Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Vehicle Mount (Car Charger Included) #ECS-K1F2BEG - Expansys USA

says had been updated to say "WARNING: Product NOT compatible with VERIZON edition ’Galaxy NEXUS i515."

Grr...this is actually getting really annoying. I can't find a good solution anywhere. Back to square one....

I feel confident that Expansys just is saying that off of what Samsung stated. And most people are thinking that the thickness of the LTE vs. GSM isn't too big of a deal.

Did anyone end up ordering from Expansys to check for compatibility? I know someone had earlier, but I'm not sure if they cancelled it.

Either way, hopefully we will have our answer on the 15th or soon after!
