Root From stock 2.0.1 to Bugless Beast ROM (For beginners)

ok so i did all the steps it just wiped my phone out back to stock and no bugless beast what did i do wrong please help me......

hmm are you sure you have the alternate recovery and made a backup? becuase you were supposed to back it up before you wiped, and if you learned how to back it up, you should know how to install a new nandroid, do you understand nandroid?

i dont think i understand whats going on i follwed the steps when it says to extract the bb file where do i extract it to cause i did it to my desktop and there were two files for it and i tried both files and neither one worked..it wiped out my apps i have everything else my setting arre now all stock i just want bb and im having the worst luck with it been trying to get it for three to four days please someone help me with this....

okay, so you have a stock ROM, are you rooted? I think you are missing a few things when you do the steps.. but not knowing exactly what and how you did things makes it tougher to get you on the right track

So.. Can you confirm you are rooted?

okay.. you have the SU Ninja icon in the app drawer.. cool

have you been able to complete a nandroid back-up of your stock ROM?

Okay I did the Update version:

Do this assuming you are going with 2.0.1
UPDATE : INSTALL WITH NO DATA LOSS

If you must do it without wiping the data there is a way.

1. All the steps up to downloading the nandroid backup of bugless beast are the same.

2. Instead of downloading the nandroid backup of Bugless Beast, download the update.zip file of it.

3. Install the update.zip file EXACTLY the same way you installed the update.zip file you used to root your droid but you dont need to wipe data/cache before you. With this method you will be updating your stock 2.0.1 rather than replacing it.

let me know if you have any questions
and then follow these steps:

1. Download the bugless Beast version of 2.0.1 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L5HOMO36
2. Rename to

When I try to rename the file my computer tells me I can't name it that cause the update.zip for root is named that and I would have to erase it from my computer and my sdcard..if I do that will it unroit my phone. ...

no that will not unroot your phone.. you applied that first update file..

so you can replace it without worries.. that is what I did

So I followed the steps to install BB 2.1 as an update.zip to keep my apps. I think maybe that was a mistake but never the less I am having a problem now. After installing the Update.zip file and rebooting, it will not start. I get the MOTO symbol then the red DROID eye then nothing. The only thing I can do is pull the battery, then it will do the same thing.

Anybody have any suggestions of what I should do?

i tried doing the update.zip and it said it was bad...i also have a update.tar on my sdcard and when i do that it says bad nandroid i think..after i loaded the update.zip file from the link and put it to the sdcard and rebooted no ! came up it just went to the screen with the reboot and install on it....what is going on

Just rooted my Droid and installed Bugless Beast. I haven't done any of this before and I just want to thank Kirch21 and all of the other posters who made this thread so helpful. I was wanting to do this for a while but didn't want to mess up a good phone. I couldn't resist temptation and now I am glad I did the upgrade. Thanks again everyone!:D

T

I am getting the "E:Cant open/cache/recovery/command" problem. I have the tools folder unziped. I followed the original instructions to the t, but when i restored it showed up just like when I originally got my phone.

EDIT::
If this makes any difference. When i am in the Android System Recovery there is a <2e> behind it then the menu is
Reboot system now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Then in the bottom it says E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

I am having this same error. It occurs after I made the backup and try to reboot recovery. I've tried reinstalling DroidRootHelper and placing back in the backup files I made, but neither have worked. I'll continue working on it, let me know if you find a solution.

Open the app (it will ask for su(superuser) access the first time. Check always and the app will freeze and crash but will be fine from here on out)

Now click these buttons in this order:
1. "Mount mtdblock3 System read/write"
2. "Install an chmod busybox"
3. "Install and chmod flash_image"
4. scroll to bottom and hit " Flash 99.2b recovery"
5. "Unmount System mtdblock3"
6. "Sync"
7. "Reboot Recovery"

You should now see a new recovery called 99.2b without even hitting the volume up and camera buttons.

Is this part suppose to crash on each install?
I re-did this part numerous amount of times and sometimes it went without craching and sometimes it wants me to force close and wait.

So my question is, im i doing this right?

now it when im trying to install it keeps saying

Finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package
E: can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
installation aborted

and there is a status bar at the bottom that has stopped 3/4s of the way.

What should i do.
