Root is cm7 better than rooted 2.2.1

i have a rooted optimus m, and i like it, but im nervous to delve into all the flashing and recovering. i like everything i've read about cm7, and the features seem really cool, though im weary about MMS working, but would it increase the performance of my phone significantly without having to overclock? i know most all of you have it, so it is worth it? or is rooted 2.2.1 performance about the same? thanks for any help

thank you, i shall look into it as i want the most out of my 600mhz processor.

i know there are several guides, is there any particular page you used to be safe and thorough.

For flashing a new rom? Just backup all your apps with titanium backup. Then copy your SD card to your PC. Reboot in recovery and wipe all user data, wipe dalvik cache. And then flash your rom of choice. Then flash latest gapps for gb should be 8-28-2011 or something lol. It's on goo inside and then reboot the phone and restore your apps with tit backup.

Btw, make a nandroid backup before just in case you either want to go back or something doesn't work right lol.

your the man! im super excited now after reading about all of its speed and capabilities. i was using gosms to customize my messaging, and even rooted it seems like crap on top of tweaked crap haha. i can't wait to unleash the full potential of my phone using an os built from people who know what they are doing. i'll keep everyone updated on my progress and of course give many many a thanks

i got it to work mwahahaha thank you all so much, this forum is loaded with all sorts of good info, you just have to read carefully, and its cake from then on. i love the cm7 mod, now i can fall in love with my optimus m all over again :-)

Blah;; the one thing that makes me go back to stock after using the cm7 roms (Bobz, PG, reppards) is my evdo is not as strong as stock and as such, downloading and browsing web pages I get time outs and connection errors which rarely happen on stock. The radio loves to swing back and froth between 1x and evdo on cm7.

A few of cm7 roms seem to a heck of alot more stable than the stock rom, and for the most part they are faster and smoother. But if I cannot connect to the net with my phone then it kinda defeats the point.

Which ROM did you end up going with? Currently I'm using Reppards CM7. I tried Bobz for about a week and just had too many little bugs for me to enjoy it; the notification bar widgets (the wifi, gps, bluetooth, airplane mode, etc) didn't work quite right (I'd tap one and it wouldn't activate/deactivate unless I rebooted the phone and then it'd be in the state that I wanted/didn't want), I never could get mms to work either. It was all minor, but put together enough that I didn't want to continue using it. I just re-flashed Reppards last night. I had been using it and did have working mms before. I haven't re-tried today to see it it does work still. Let me put it this way, Reppards worked solidly enough that I could put it on my wife's phone (she doesn't want to mess with little annoyances, just wants a working phone) and she was happy with it. :)

im using playful gods version. i also downloaded and flashed a separate MMS fix, and its been working great...at least as well as metro pcs will allow haha

haha they made hotwheels too! i thank you for the suggestion, but that doesnt sound like something i would want on my phone. i have been using playfulgods cm7 mod flawlessly, i have wifi, internet, mms, no freezes or reboots, my phone is faster than ever, efficient, and it has so many options i love it, you can choose to be a stock or power user, one of my favorite features is the abillity to instal everything to your sd card, no more annoying messages saying your phone is low on space haha.

the settings applied on reboot has been fixed on the newer update. It was caused (I believe) by the A2SD script from DarkTremor, if you look at the changelog, it says he removed it. I tried flashing it and after I did I got the settings problem again.

Ugh. Why on earth does anyone like Sense? Its like a childproof version of Android cooked up specifically so teenagers can't accidentally muck with anything at all.

Compared to Miui, and CM, Sense looks like a phone designed by Mattel. (Yeah, the Barbie doll manufacturer.)

Lol that's what I thought when I tried out the first custom ROM I found on here, CM7 Bobz is what I like.
